To recap week 2, top 3 was as follows:
1st: KevoDaMan(Boneshaper Shinnok)
2nd: Gito(Hellfire, Ninjutsu Scorpion)
3rd: The Magician(Kobu Jutsu Tanya, Hollywood Cassie Cage)

Round 1… FIGHT!
@WITNESS (Dragon’s Fire Liu Kang) Vs. Millie (Piercing Mileena)
-
Witness expertly utilized his signature Liu Kang pressure to take a quick first match.
- Millie was able to compose himself in match 2. He began using Mileena’s EX armored cartwheel kick at just the right times, but Witness caught on, and maintained pressure. The match ended in an explosive moment, when Mileena went for one last EX cartwheel that could have led to the game winning kombo, but 2 rapid fire punches from Liu Kang would break the armor to win the match!
Results: Witness 2 – Millie 0

Adeel (Boneshaper Shinnok) Vs. @XxDark_ (Buzzsaw Kung Lao)
-
Boneshaper Shinnok’s bone staff would get a workout in this set, as Adeel used long-range bone scoops left and right to take the first match.
-XxDark_Assassin adapted nicely in match 2, teleporting from long range to avoid the bone scoops. A mixture of teleports and hat tosses would win him the next 2 matches.
Results: Dark Assassin 2 – Adeel 1

@mrKrucifix (A-List Johnny Cage) Vs. @TamedLizard a.k.a Orgogami (Marksman Erron Black)
-
Congratulations to Krucifix for a very respectable 5th place finish at Top of the Food Chain this past Saturday! He seemed to be building off that momentum, taking a convincing match 1 with a great mix of fireball zoning and rush down offense.
- Orgogami began to make a comeback in match 2, landing several nice E.B. kombos, but the offense of Johnny Cage would prove to be too much, and Krucifix would take another convincing match.
Results: Krucifix 2 – Orgogami 0

Qhaos (Assassin Kitana) Vs. Yak (Cryomancer Sub Zero)
-Qhaos’ Kitana looked absolutely on point tonight. Yak looked to rush down the princess with his Cryomancer Sub, but Kitana would execute an EX rising fan nearly every time he tried to get in, leading to victory in match 1.
- When Yak began to mount an effective offense in match 2, Qhaos switched his tactics, and landed several unbreakable, multi-fan kombos from practically full screen for the win.
Results: Qhaos 2 – Yak 0

@Gito666 (Venomous D’Vorah) Vs. Autumn (Mystic Ermac)
- Gito would use his Venomous D’Vorah for the first time in tournament at Wednesday Night Strikes.
- Autumn landed several well-timed teleports during the set, but couldn’t seem to convert them into higher damage kombos. D’Vorah would overwhelm Ermac with her venom drenched stingers and deadly mixups for 2 quick victories.
Results: Gito 2 – Autumn 0

@Vaiist (Master of Storms/Thunder God Raiden) Vs. @pogse (Cybernetic Kano)
- Pogse came out of the gates swinging tonight, showing effective zoning skills with his Cybernetic Kano. Knives, knives, and more knives would prevent Vaiist from effectively setting up his lightning traps, to win match 1 for Kano.
- Vaiist switches to his new Thunder God Raiden for match 2. The switch seemed to help, as he played a more in-your-face style, winning the poking war up close and landing high damage kombos. Kano, however, would manage to win one round with a throw in the corner, and the next with another vicious barrage of knives.
Results: Pogse 2 – Vaiist 0

@Lith (Pumped Up Jax) Vs. Brittany (Assassin Kitana)
- Lith had a gameplan in this match, and it came to fruition beautifully. He seemed to know just when Kitana was looking to land her assassin rush, and punished it nearly every time to win match 1.
- Brittany suffered a bad case of the giggles in between matches, which continued into match 2. Was this some sort of psychological warfare tactic?! No. She was just having fun! She put up a good fight, but simply could not deal with the brutal Jax rushdown that Lith is known for. Jax took a quick 2 rounds with a slew of Gotcha Grabs and Lunging Punches to win match 2.
Results: Lith 2 – Brittany 0

@FlipinFlava (Venomous D’Vorah) Vs. @Omgzilla (Thunder God Raiden)
- The resident CFAS Kytinn King would face off against Omgzilla, who has already shown vast improvement in only his second week of Wednesday Night Strikes attendance. OMG would put up a good offense, but would get a bit antsy and attempt a few too many Superman dives. This allowed FlipinFlava to land some big kombos and poison to win match 1.
- OMG came back in match 2, taking the first round with a few nice kombos. However, Flava laid the pressure on thick with D’Vorah’s deadly mixups, and was able to take 2 more rounds to win the set.
Results: FlipinFlava 2 – Omgzilla 0

Loser’s Round 1… FIGHT!
Millie (Piercing Mileena) Vs. Adeel (Boneshaper Shinnok)

- Hellsparks galore filled the screen in match 1, but Millie began to counter them with his continued excellent use of Mileena’s EX cartwheel to win 2 rounds.
- The second match was intensely close, but Adeel’s excellent spacing would lead him to a third round victory with a long range bone scoop.
- Mileena would begin to counter said bone scoop with a little sai zoning. A strong mix of low, high, and air sai tosses from full screen would win 2 rounds and allow Millie to move on!
Results: Millie 2 – Adeel 1

Yak (Cryomancer Sub Zero) Vs. Orgogami (Noxious Reptile)
- This battle of the klassic MK ninja was one of the closest, most intense sets of the night. The first match went neck and neck all the way to round 3, where both players struggled in an epic battle for the corner. With both players down to 5% health, Yak would take it with a surprise EX slide.
- The second match, again, went all the way to round 3, before the battle of the slides was won by the slimy serpent this time. Reptile, that is… Not Orgogami.
- Orgogami would carry this momentum into match 3. He was able to stay just outside the range of Yak’s ice weaponry, and would mix up his zoning and close-range mixup games nicely to win 2 rounds and advance.
Results: Orgogami 2 – Yak 1

Vaiist (Master of Storms Raiden) Vs. Autumn (Mystic Ermac)
- Vaiist would gain immediate control of this set with great use of Raiden’s lightning traps. Autumn simply could not figure out where a trap was going to end up next. When she began to block the traps, Vaiist instead relied on strong 50/50s to keep her confused and ultimately win 2 matches.
Results: Vaiist 2 – Autumn 0

Omgzilla (Thunder God Raiden) Vs. Brittany (Assassin Kitana)
- The girls just could not avoid the wrath of the Thunder God tonight. Omgzilla immediately laid on the pressure, landing several nicely damaging kombos. Kitana simply could not catch a break, as every time she tried her assassin rush, Raiden was waiting with open arms. Open, lightning-infused, EX, armored arms.
Results: Omgzilla 2 – Brittany 0

Winner’s Round 2… FIGHT!
Witness (Dragon’s Fire Liu Kang) Vs. XxDark_Assassin (Tempest Kung Lao)

- Witness caught Dark off guard in match 1, seeming to know exactly when Lao was going to attempt that famous EX spin, and punishing accordingly with big kombos to take 2 decisive rounds.
- Seeing this, Kung Lao reverted to his former Bird Lao glory. Dark managed to dodge numerous fireballs with excellent usage of Lao’s JIPs, teleports, and especially dive kicks to win match 2.
- Match 3 was a much more patient affair, with both players seemingly having figured out the other’s tactics. Dark would win round 1 with a throw, while Witness bounced right back to win round 2 with a bicycle kick. After a tense standoff in the final round of the final match of the set, Winess’ patience proved too great, as he was able to capitalize on enough mistakes to win the set.
Results: Witness 2 – XxDark_Assassin 1

Krucifix (A-List Johnny Cage) Vs. Qhaos (Mournful Kitana)
- Who said zoning was dead in MKX? This match was an excellent display of how zoning is still a viable playstyle in this game. Both players relied heavily on their projectiles in match 1, but Qhaos would just squeak out a victory in a close round 3.
- Match 2 saw more zoning, although with a bit of pressure mixed in. Unfortunately for Krucifix, Qhaos seemed to figure out how to get around those green orbs and get in close enough times to land some big kombos for the victory.
Results: Qhaos 2 – Krucifix 0

Pogse (Cybernetic Kano) Vs. Gito (Ninjutsu Scorpion)
- Pogse continued his skilled use of Kano’s throwing knives in this close match 1. Gito was expecting them, however, and would go on to win the match using the insane range of Ninjutsu Scorp’s swords, leading to big damage kombos.
- Pogse adapted in match 2, baiting out sword attacks and punishing with well-timed Kano balls to win round 1. Seeing this tactic, Gito attempted to space Kano out, and managed to bait out and punish those ball attacks to win rounds 2 and 3 to advance.
Results: Gito 2 – Pogse 0

Lith (Pumped Up Jax) Vs. FlipinFlava (Venomous D’Vorah)
- This was a close, exciting set between the farmer and the bug lady. Lith would win round 1 of the first match decisively, zoning out Flava’s D’Vorah with a plethora of purple energy blasts. Flava wasn’t having it, though, and would deny Jax the chance to zone by rushing in and poking and poisoning him to death. He would win round 3 with D’Vorah’s ridiculously good uppercut.
- Match 2 was equally close, again coming down to round 3. There, Flava would land one of his patented XRay attacks, seemingly on track to win and advance, but Lith bullied his way back in, and bombarded D’Vorah with a rush of pressure, overwhelming her for the win.
- Flava isn’t the only one who knows how to press both shoulder buttons at the same time. A tense moment in the final round of match 3 saw a whiffed XRay attack by Lith! Despite his failure to powerbomb the Kytinn Queen, he would manage to corner her and continue his assault for the win.
Results: Lith 2 – FlipinFlava 1

Loser’s Round 2… FIGHT!
FlipinFlava (Venomous D’Vorah) Vs. Millie (Piercing Mileena)

- Yet another set in which almost every match came down to round 3! In the final round of the first match, there was a heart-stopping moment in which Millie dropped the potentially match-winning kombo. He was able to recover, though and go up 1-0.
- Mileena looked to continue her armored rampage in the second match, but a perfectly timed acid hand from D’Vorah would break the armor on the cartwheel and secure victory for Flava.
- Both players played extremely cautiously in the third and final match. D’Vorah’s excellent pokes simply proved to be too much for Mileena , though, as Flipin Flava would win and advance.
Results: FlipinFlava 2 – Millie 1

Orgogami (Noxious Reptile) Vs. Pogse (Cybernetic Kano)
- The noxious fumes of Reptile did not appear to phase the vile Kano, as Pogse was able to take a close match 1 with a series of swaggy kombos and finishing with an EX up ball.
- Orgogami adapted nicely in the second match, managing to get in close and employ effective mixups to take the first round with a low-starting kombo. Pogse, too, appeared to be able to adapt. He began to successfully block more of Orgogami’s kombos, and would take the next two (very close) rounds with a combination of more knives and Kano balls.
Results: Pogse 2 – Orgogami 0

Krucifix (A-List Johnny Cage) Vs. Vaiist (Master of Storms/Thunder God Raiden)
- These two players are friends, who play together often. One could tell that Krucifix knew exactly when and where Vaiist would attempt to set up his lightning traps. Johnny stayed just outside of the traps’ range, and fireball-ed Raiden to death to take match 1.
- Attempting to switch it up, Vaiist opts to go with Thunder God once again, in hopes of beating Johnny in the rushdown game. Krucifix appeared to be ready for this tactic, too, as he knew just where and when to block to win 2 rounds and end the match by punching the Thunder God in the groin so hard that his head popped off.
Results: Krucifix 2 – Vaiist 0

XxDark_Assassin (Covert Ops Sonya) Vs. Omgzilla (Thunder God Raiden)
- Dark decided to switch it up and play Sonya instead of his usual Kung Lao. This decision seemed to pay off, as a close match 1 featured a flurry of hard-to-block mixups to go up 1-0.
- Omgzilla tried his best to get something going, but Dark was on an absolute tear, and would dominate match 2 with more mixups, ending the set with an amazingly well-timed parry.
Results: XxDark_Assassin 2 – Omgzilla 0

Top 8… It Has Begun!
Winner’s Bracket: Qhaos (Mournful Kitana) Vs. Witness (Dragon’s Fire Liu Kang)

- Top 8 would start with Kitana and Liu Kang trying to do the same thing: zone the other out until they’re uncomfortable enough to be opened up. While both players executed this strategy nicely, Khaos managed to get in just a few more times, landing some impressive 38% damage kombos with Kitana to win match 1.
- Match 2 featured a riveting “Only a True Master” comeback from Witness in the corner. With his back against the wall and down to his last sliver of life, he was able to switch positions with Kitana, putting her in the corner. There, Witness applied copious amounts of pressure, culminating in a fireball cancel into a throw for the win! Definitely a candidate for hypest moment of the night. His glory was short lived, though, as Qhaos reverted to zoning out Liu Kang with those speedy glaive throws for the 3rd round win.
Results: Qhaos 2 – Witness 0

Winner’s Bracket: Gito (Hellfire Scorpion) Vs. Lith (Pumped Up Jax)
- These two players seem to bump into each other nearly every time they enter a tournament together. Although it has gone back and forth in the past, Lith obviously had Gito’s number tonight. He and his Jax were able to back Scorpion into the corner and simply pound on him to win a quick match 1.
- Gito attempted to slow the pace of match 2, playing a bit more lame and throwing out the occasional hellfire to catch Lith off guard. Jax laughed at the meager attempt, however, and bullied his way back in to continue his pressure. Between his excellent use of mixups and repeated punishing of Scorpion’s teleports, match 2 was in the bag.
Results: Lith 2 – Gito 0

Loser’s Bracket: FlipinFlava (Venomous D’Vorah) Vs. Pogse (Cybernetic Kano)
- Pogse seemed to be on a warpath. He knew that zoning out Venomous D’Vorah was the key to victory. He threw knives until Flava HAD to get in to make something happen. Pogse, however, made it clear that he knows how to do more than just throw knives, and applied ample pressure of his own, ending match 1 with a throw.
- Match 2 went much the same way, until Flava, down to his last bit of health, threw Pogse into the corner and nearly made a massive comeback! It came down to the last bit of health for each player, but Pogse knew an acid hand was coming, and managed to EX Kano ball through it for the win!
Results: Pogse 2 – FlipinFlava 0

Loser’s Bracket: Krucifix (A-List Johnny Cage) Vs. XxDark_Assassin (Covert Ops Sonya, Buzzsaw K.L.)
- This was an exciting up-close-and-personal brawl. Both players obviously had the full intent to try to bully each other into submission from the get-go. Match 1 was a hard fought battle, but Krucifix would take it with an EX flip kick.
- Dark felt it was time to go back to his main. Switching to Buzzsaw Kung Lao allowed Dark more mobility to avoid Johnny’s onslaught. Lao would win round 1 with a nice teleport, and round 2 with an anti-air divekick into that Ip Man throw we all know and love. Brutality!
- Continuing his dominance, Dark would quickly take the first round of match 3. An exciting round 2 saw Krucifix block an EX spin beautifully, only to drop the punishing kombo! A nice read from Dark would allow him to block a Johnny shadow kick, punish with EX spin, and win with another Brutality!
Results: XxDark_Assassin 2 – Krucifix 1

WINNER’S FINALS: Lith (Pumped Up Jax) Vs. Qhaos (Assassin/Mournful Kitana)
- Spacing, spacing, spacing. This was the theme of winner’s finals. Both Lith and Qhaos are experts of spacing out their opponents, and it showed in this very close set. Match 1 came down to the very end of round 3. Jax managed to corner Kitana and take most of her life, only to have the blue lady ninja make a comeback and take it.
- The back and forth nature of the set continued into match 2. Lith would win the first round with great spacing and some well placed purple projectiles. Qhaos would manage to get in and win the second round with a good poking game. The third round was all Lith, as he managed to land a perfectly timed XRay, followed by a few effective anti-airs for the win.
- Glaives work better than fans, apparently, as Qhaos would switch to Mournful Kitana and continue his zoning assault. He was able to throw off Lith’s game with a ton of thrown glaives, with occasional high-damage kombos mixed in. The Edenian Princess would win 2 more matches to move on to grand finals!
Results: Qhaos 3 – Lith 1

Loser’s Bracket: Witness (Dragon’s Fire Liu Kang) Vs. Pogse (Cybernetic Kano)
- Zoning was the theme of basically the entire top 8 tonight, and would continue in this set. Witness would successfully stave off Pogse’s throwing knife onslaught to take a very close match 1.
- Pogse would fire off even more knives, with a few Kano balls mixed in, to win match 2.
- Match 3 would go back and forth, with each kombatant taking a round. Pogse seemed to catch on to the patterns of the Liu Kang fireballs flying at him in the final round. After expertly dodging several of them, he managed to take the match and advance.
Results: Pogse 2 – Witness 1

Loser’s Bracket: XxDark_Assassin (Covert Ops Sonya) Vs. Gito (Hellfire/Ninjutsu Scorpion)
- Dark was on fire tonight with both his Lao and his Sonya. He showed expert knowledge of this matchup, staying just outside of flame aura range, and moving in to punish accordingly. It didn’t take long for him to take match 1 with his aggressive offense.
- A frustrated Gito would make the switch to Ninjutsu and pick up the swords that had brought him success earlier in the evening. Dark seemed ready for this matchup as well. Without fear of walking into a flame aura, he expertly moved in and applied pressure with Sonya’s nasty mixup game. When Gito tried to back off and use the range of the swords, Dark spaced him out perfectly, and would whiff punish with dive kicks to take the match and advance!
Results: XxDark_Assassin 2 – Gito 0

Loser’s Bracket: Pogse (Cybernetic Kano) Vs. XxDark_Assassin (Covert Ops Sonya)
- Why fix what’s not broken? Dark decided to stick with Sonya to continue his insane rushdown pressure. Pogse managed to make a slight comeback in the second round of match 1, but Sonya’s 50/50s proved to be too much, and Dark would take the match.
- Pogse attempted to apply some pressure of his own in the second match, landing several nice kombos, mixed with his usual barrage of throwing knives. Sonya remained calm, though, and managed to take down her mortal enemy once and for all to make it to loser’s finals.
Results: XxDark_Assassin 2 – Pogse 0

LOSER’S FINALS: XxDark_Assassin (Tempest/Buzzsaw Kung Lao) Vs. Lith (Pumped Up Jax)
- And here we go! Both players displayed excellent spatial awareness in this very close set. Lith would win round 1 by punishing a blocked EX spin with a gotcha grab. After Dark came back to win round 2, an exciting round 3 came down to the last 5% of both characters’ health. A well-placed EX teleport would lead to a kombo for Dark, ending in a throw to win the match. Brutality!
- Match 2 went much the same way, with round 1 ending in a frantic scramble at the very end of both health bars. Dark would stay composed, though, and end the match with yet another Brutality!
- One of Lith’s many strengths is his ability to stay composed and play HIS game, even when down 2 matches to none. He would pump up (no pun intended) the pressure, and win match 3 and 4 by staying grounded and anticipating the inevitable spins and teleports from Kung Lao.
- Dark switched to Buzzsaw Kung Lao for the final match of the set, perhaps hoping to throw off Lith’s game with low hats and mixups. His strategy seemed to work, as the match was taken all the way to the last bit of health in round 3. After both players fought valiantly for the ever-important corner, Lith would go on to win with one final gotcha grab, placing him in grand finals.
Results: Lith 3 – XxDark_Assassin 2

GRAND FINALS: Qhaos(W) (Mournful Kitana) Vs. Lith(L) (Vicious Ferra/Torr, Pumped Up Jax)
- In a very smart move, Lith would start this set with Vicious Ferra/Torr, in an attempt to throw the little woman right through Kitana’s glaive assault. This tactic worked fairly well, with Ferra flying through the glaives and the crazy range of their njp winning one round. Qhaos adapted nicely, though and would dodge the Ferra tosses to initiate his rushdown game and win match 1.
- Lith looked to come back in match 2, winning the first round with a grab. Something obviously burned within Qhaos, and he would mount a crazy offensive, ending with a beautiful 40% kombo to win round 2 with a flawless victory! He continued to keep Lith off guard with his mix of rushdown and zoning to win the match and come within 1 match of being the new champion.
- Despite the solid F/T plan, Lith obviously felt more comfortable with Jax, to whom he would switch with his tournament life on the line. A brutally close 3 rounds would come down to mere pixels for both players. Lith just needed to land AYNTHING to win. Qhaos knew this, though, and somehow managed to dodge a half dozen purple projectiles, and a few ground pounds to land an EX glaive toss into a throw to win the match and the night!
Results: Qhaos 3 – Lith 0

Your winner, and new CFAS Wednesday Night Strikes champion: Qhaos! We hope you’ll join us next week for another night of GGs. Next week’s write-up may have to be contained to the top 8, as this one seemed… excessive.
