Poison Ivy Match-up Notes
Basically creating this thread to put down my own observations and thoughts about Ivy vs the cast and how best to approach each character. This will hopefully be a collaborative effort from the Ivy community and I encourage everyone to chat about it here and in discord and help us come to some agreeable conclusions on match-ups.
Aquaman:
Aquaman can beat Ivy up close with the range on his trident normals so it's best to keep Aquaman away and zone him with your trait and drills. Specifically in this matchup you can punish Aquaman's tentacle strike with vine drill but the window to punish is tight so you have to be ready for it, but once you establish this as an option then Aquaman will have to respect your full screen game.
If Aquaman manages to reach you and start his pressure and mixup game then a great option is to pushblock and attempt to start up your zoning game again. You should hopefully be able to build plenty of meter by doing this to keep Aquaman off you. This is also especially helpful for dealing with trident rush. If you're playing up close against Aquaman in the midscreen you should be very careful of his reach and anti-air options. Once you do get a touch though send him to full screen using a hard knockdown and start up that zoning game.
Key Points:
- Punish tentacle strike on block with vine drill
- Keep Aquaman away from you by using either a hard knockdown or pushblock
- Play the keep away game for as along as possible
- Be smart with your meter management, save the bar you build in your zoning game for pushblock and meterburn b3.
- Aquaman's trident normals will win him the up close spacing game so be very careful.
