My MK9 Original WB Arcade Cabinet

There was only a handful of arcade cabinets made for the MK9 presentation, probably around 8 of them. Some were made for the Xbox 360 version and some for the PlayStation 3.

I managed to get the PlayStation 3 version for myself through networking in a Hollywood storage facility. I was very lucky to obtain it, apparently WB just wanted to destroy them, since they didn't need them anymore. I believe there are a few other people that also managed to save a few, but I have lost touch with them, and I don't know if they still have them.

This thing is massively huge. It doesn't look that way on the images, but it is almost 7 feet tall, and almost 4 feet wide. Without any equipment other than the controllers it weights around 450 lbs altogether.

I put my PS3 Slim in it with a 1.5 TB HDD, in which I have a significant amount of digital games including various shmups, beat 'em ups, fighting games, classic arcade games, newer arcade games, Neo Geo stuff, some that I even had to buy on the Japanese store because they weren't released on the West, and of course MK9. So it feels like having multiple arcade cabinets into a single arcade unit. These are the ones:

My only regret is that I cannot play any of the Killer Instinct games on it, since they all belong to Microsoft now, but I already made peace with that. Either way the hardcore ultimate experience for this cabinet is playing MK9 of course because the artwork simply add ups to that experience.

For the sound, a soundbar with a subwoofer was more than enough to add richness to the experience, and the 2 fans that came inside to keep it cool during the summer add to the feel of the machine being alive. The monitor I added is a 40 inches screen, which is a lot bigger than most arcade cabinets, but it can hold up to a 42 inches screen.

The other great news is that those WB fight sticks were also released commercially, and are compatible with MKX, and MKXL, it reads them as legacy controllers, which means I have no problem playing MKXL on it when I put the Pro in it.

I know I'm kind of bragging and I'm sure many people here probably have better setups, but when you have something you love so much, you want to share it. I also use it as a music jukebox with Spotify, and it is perfect if you like to constantly have people over. I highly recommend people to get arcade cabinets, the experience is simply incomparable.

Here are some images of it:

its a shame fighting game arcade machines arent manufactured anymore :(
1UP is coming up with a very aproachable solution in the following months for arcade cabinets in general. I'm happy for them slowly bringing those back to the general public in small doses.

That is dope as hell
Thank you man.

Nrs/wb have no soul
I personally can't complain. They did this cabinet, and it made me very happy.

MK1 is the best MK period.

Man that looks amazing.
Just wondering how to play Street Fighter on a MK-layout Stick.

Too bad Arcade-Machines are not a thing anymore :(

Siiiiiiiiiiick. I’m hella green rn
Thank you man.

Yeah, it was very sad because as far as I know they destroyed at least half of them. Some guys saved the fight sticks at least.

Street Fighter games are definitely not ideal for this setup, I still have them there just because they were already part of my PS3 collection.

This setup however works great for Marvel Vs. Capcom, Injustice, Dead Or Alive, Virtua Fighter, Tekken, Soulcalibur, the SNK fighters, and all the Arc System Works games.

Woohoo! it's beautiful
Thank you man.

If I ever get a new game from the Japanese store I will add it to the list.

I've seem some good ones they have there that I still don't have like:

- Phantom Breaker Another Code [the fighting game, not the beat 'em up]

- Melty Blood Actress Again Current Code

- Blade Arcus From Shinning EX

- Ketsui Kizuna Jigoku Tachi [a CAVE shmup]

- Caladrius Blaze [a MOSS shmup, which I have for PS4, they have it on PS3 too]

- ... and many other classics that we didn't get here.

However at this point I'm satisfied with what I have. I haven't get a new tittle since last December.

The forte of the machine is MK9 anyway, and I always have a blast with people, playing that game.

The way I look playing the other games, is that in classic MK games if you fight enough versus fights you get to play something like Galaga, which was always fun too.
