Kung Lao General Discussion thread

Make his foreward, 3 (3,3,3) a mid and slightly faster. As of now it's a useless move. Maybe give his EX Buzzsaw a different property, something like in MK9 (not his air buzzsaw)

Monk drop (F, 4) is very slow and super unsafe. Not sure how to fix that move but as it's designed now it's kinda useless.

This is what I'm talking about. All the characters lean into their attributes in many ways yet Lao has to use sektor kameo and a dive kick... Since all his attributes are on the KAMEO THAT EVERYONE HAS ACCESS TO USE PLUS THEIR OWN ATTRIBUTES (this is some next level fucked up shit BTW)

This character should be based around doing things with his hat

Hat trap from MKX but on some next level shit. He'll still have his hat callback still.

He should place the hat on screen and depending on the button the hat should have a different reaction like bouncing off the walls and stuff.

Like c'mon man I literally came up with this while typing this post. Yet y'all can't do better with this character at the studio with all the tools at you're disposal? I expect better cause y'all have produced better in the past.

This character is the true definition of dog shit.

Like imagine him dive kicking the hat and the hat ricochet off the ground goes up hits the ceiling and comes down with an overhead.

Man ... If I was in that studio....

this was one of my buffs or adjustments to kung lao. as you can all see ITS ALREADY IN THE GAME. Most of the work is already done.

Man, Kung Lao is such a solid character in MK1.

Good mid, good fireballs, solid damage, plus frames, launching divekick, - he's got everything you need to do well.

It's a good thing that Kung Lao can work well with Mavado, Janet Cage, etc...

Skill issue, tbh.

I really think Kung Lao/Stryker has a lot of potential.
Stryker keeps Lao somewhat safe on his armor reversal and overhead with grenades, gives him plus frames on block and massive damage.

I have been busy this few weeks but tomorrow I’m gonna lab it more.
@Vulgar Laos mid is okay I wouldn’t say good or great just okay.

He's okay with Stryker. Gets really good dmg off the new gun blitz move. Buuut Lao isn't really a good investment imo. He's just too bare bones by himself.

How many Top 8s both online and offline are we up to now with Kung Lao? I lost count, it happens so often.

How many times have you mistaken character balance by equating the character is fine cause he reached top 8 knowing full well Cale for example used homelander to climb bracket?

I've lost count as well.

Just because a Lao appears in top 8 doesn't mean the character is fine

A top player uses an alt for bad match ups.

Congratulations, we've established that Kung Lao isn't Top 5. No one is saying he is.

When Cale's back was to the wall vs Grr, it was Kung Lao, not Homelander, that got him the win.

The better Kung Lao does, the harder you crash out.

As Nitara main and having a pocket lao in mk9, I'd say this is not accurate. Nitara is actually much more similar to Assassin Kitana in MKX, with the flight cancels being similar to the fan flutter and the poke into upward flight being somewhat similar to poke into parry cancels. MK9 Lao had much better normals, a fast low projectile and, for most of the game's life, a SAFE 7 FRAME LAUNCHER. The vampire lady is nowhere near that level, IMO.

We've? No. I established that but you and the majority of the drooling sheep of the Mk community were saying he was thus not deserving of any adjustments. I was the only one pushing back on that and few others.

So you went to the next goal post "look guys Lao in top 8 boys!" Knowing damn well you're leaving out the full context of choosing him for certain match ups thus he appears in said top 8.

Doesn't matter huh.

Top 8 appearance?= No balance adjustments.
