I'm in awe. JamesMK is a dude. Like did anyone else feel he's probably been the MOST down to earth... this is how it is guest they've had? He didn't waver on his opinion... and even though he reps his guys (which he should) he has had some of the best views on players and character design to date.

His Noob idea blew my mind. How do you think of that stuff? Damn man... good listen. Much respect.

I like what James said about how MK developers would make the girls a little more powerful than most of the guys in past mk games. I don't agree with them being more balanced in this game though. I don't think people understand how much of an advantage it is to have a small hit box in this game. If NRS wants to give the girls in this game a small hit box because of how they look(them being women and shorter ext..) then why don't they give them life according to how they look. Theres no way Sonya can take the same beating Jax can, but because shes a girl they give her more advantages with out the disadvantages. Thats a big unbalancing issue this game has, and the worst part is NRS and the people who use those characters thinks its ok. There is absolutely no skill involved in having the ability to spam a normal to get out of pressure, theres no high level game play involved at all in that.
After maining Skarlet for awhile i've realised she is actually really tall. Easily the tallest female and taller than some male characters. However, doing D3 and she is instantly horizontal to the floor.
 
i think sony is still strong, microsoft is already goin to release a new console it seems, japan is all about the ps3 and even though microsoft is getting sales, ps3 got that quailty
 
There's guys with smaller hitboxes than girls. I wish Kitty would take off her heels so she'd be even shorter.
Yeah good point. Another thing they can do for kitty is give her a Jonny cage nut punch that auto corrects on cross up and make it so that she can combo off of it. In addition they should make the move %100 safe by adding invisible frames to it like Cyblax's teleport and the command for it should just be D1. Then you can down play that move to divert attention from it, so it doesn't get nerfed. Because if NRS decides to nerfes easy, no skill, no brainer moves like d1,d3,d4 that might make those characters a little more balanced, and we all know thats a big no no.

i listened to this whole podcast so count me as one. crust is very important on pizza thats why new dominos kills papa johns and pizza hut, but usually the little hole in the wall pizza joints are the best. DAYUMMM you heard someone get robbed (don't come to Houston then, LOL)

Who is literally just spamming a move to get out of pressure? Everything has a counter, and it's not the games fault that the player base is so behind that they don't know how to get around those tactics.

listening to jamessmk describe sub-zero's shortcomings makes me think that sub needs some kind of ice mist ball which hits and chips but doesn't freeze, and make an ex ice ball which freezes but doesn't chip. that would allow sub-zero to be a normal fighting game character. but if they ever did this, they should also remove the slide's ability to hit low. also, remove the clone or make it an ex move.
...You say this like the slide is even CLOSE to a broken move.

9% damage, untechable knockdown with very little hit advantage, extremely punishable both on block and on whiff. That attack is far from gamebreaking.

How do you land a cross over punch on say mileena when she just spamming d4? Is it ok when your using a character, that his/her only combo starter wiffs just because the character is crouching, thus never allowing you to do anything to a small hit box character but poke them to death? When I play small hit box characters I'm always hoping for 2 things. 1. The opponent doesn't realize that they have nothing really to worry about, because they know I can never really get any offense going. 2. that they are really sloppy and make alot of punishable mistakes, like bad reads when using special moves. Hix boxes in this game are very under used ATM. Very few people take real advantage when using a small hit box character, most people just use it as a defensive tool. When players get used to starting full combos in between strings that wiff because of there hit box, then it will really start to show how one sided and unbalanced most of the match ups really are.


Edit: I forgot to answer your question. All the players who know they can lower their hit box by using a normal do it, as they should if the game allows then to do so.

If the opponent is getting under your jump in attempts with moves that lower their hitbox you have to jump in kick. Condition them to block instead of using moves to get under your jump in punches and then you will be able to do your block strings again off jip's.

Another entertaining podcast, but as Jamesmk said the beginning is kind of winded if people aren't interested about the man, the myth, the legend lol. 16-Bit had interesting stories about the bears, how he would believe in God if he places top 8 at Evo again, and cannibalism. KTP literally has no boundaries, everything is up for discussion lol

Fuckin interesting, innit!? There's a counter to a move that allows another layer of the game to begin!

Your right and thats the only thing you can do. Thats why its unbalanced, because most characters don't have that luxury of knowing the most thats going to happen is they eat a kick that knocks them out of any kind of pressure. A smart player should always take the kick vs the pressure. Its not like you can jump kick your way to victory. With all the AA's in this game, its not a good idea to jump often. I always pay the price for jumping in on good players.

I know some characters that get big time damage off of jump kicks. Kabal, JC, and Sektor come to mind here. C'mon now.

I guess you missed my point. I know Kitana gets a nice combo off a jik fan but your talkin a very small portion of the cast that have those abilities. With Liu I don't have to worry about hit boxes too much, cuz he's one of the best punishers in the game when it comes to low pokes.

Liu also gets damage off of jump kicks...in fact, I would not be surprised if most characters couldn't squeeze at least a little more dmg out of a jump kick. So not really a small portion...more like what separates the good from the bad chars.
 
Liu gets %35 off a jik but it has to be deep. When you cross up a small hit box character that is using d1,d3,d4 its not possible to land it deep. Liu's primary combo starter hits low, so offense is not a big problem with him on any character. You don't get it though, your just going to keep looking at threw a bias point of view and not how much it effects the over all cast.

Hey Shoryuken, they actually did that extra damage thing before once in a game. Shujinko took more damage in Armageddon.

Also good shit to Mr Fink. And i agree. 3 hours is enough. Didn't really enjoy the last hour, but i see you guys are all having a good time while making it so i'm not gonna stop you.
