How to beat Jax?

Where are his gaps? When is it my turn. I need major help on Jax. He seems so plus’s after everything. I just can’t get an opening. Can someone break it down please?

I main Jax, and I will say proper spacing, whiff punishing, and zoning will shut down any Jax player. Most of his plus moves are nasty on whiff (f3,3 ...f4,2...f2 strings) and he can’t do too much if you simply back away from him and space/zone very well. He’s definitely an intimidating character but any character with a decent projectile and good footsies can shut him down. Also most people that play Jax play the variation with the overhead where he punches you a lot so blocking high is very important. His combo game isn’t really impressive either so if a Jax player is doing a combo, maybe don’t break out? It usually isn’t a horrible amount of damage and it’s better to just save the defensive meter for rolls. Rolling against Jax is also very strong(though this could apply to any character) most Jax players will play a very aggressive oki game and will do easy to whiff moves while you’re on the ground so rolling can lead to a full combo punish.
Edit:F3,3 and F2 aren’t plus my mistake. Still solid pressure tools regardless

Depends on which character do you use but in general you have to respect his fast mid strings (f33 i guess) be ready for throws or overhead on block and punish him, if your character can zone him that is means something really important cos Jax suck at zoning game.

He’s really tough to fight online due to his staggers. He can just keep pressing buttons and disrespecting whenever you’re at advantage. It’s pretty bullshit.

You can flawless block his f2(1+3) and his b33(1+3) before the 1+3 hit. It’s actually pretty easy. Otherwise, you’ve just got to try to land a poke that jails into something worthwhile. Or zone him out. He probably benefits more from online delay than any other character, it’s insane.

I have problems against him too, and the main reason for me is his command grab.
I could deal with his pressure....but a char fast and offensive like that having a Zangief move with crushing blow for free is too much for me.

Imagine a character like Guy on sfiv having a command that takes 50% of your life....and the sin was that you were....blocking....

I main Jax too. Since when his F33 or F2 were plus lol? Have u even checked his frames before playing him?

Walking back has been my main adaptation to this mu. Seems to be his kryptonite. In bad connections, Jax is busted. In good connections, he’s aight. But f2 becomes active later than it looks, it’s 14 frames, so just walk back and interrupt or whiff punish. Once he’s in, you can fuzzy the OH/Low from f33, and attempt to react to staggers but in worse connections it’s a gamble.

Blow me up if you want but Jax is top 10.

Don't let him get a free poke after F2/f33 1+3. Make him respect the reversal throw (easy way to beat pokes) until he starts jumping.

Mix up your wake up game. Delay, roll, u3, u2. Hell wake up buttons or jump or throw. Make sure he can't get a read on you. Just watch out for the step back into fully charged B2

Zone him and outspace him. His full screen and mid range game is not the strongest.

His f2 mixup the low comes first and u can flawless block the oh to get a solid punish off that and even then a 6 frame d1 can punish and both have a gap but u can only interrupt the OH option of f2 with a fatal blow. His staggers are -3 to -4 normally, his bf2 if he amps he loses some range on it so keep that in mind. F33 is god awful on whiff tho f2 recovers pretty fast (I myself dash cancel f2 by itself on knockdown in case they roll so I can d1 check tho Liu and fatal blows can bypass this) usually u want to make Jax players use his back throw instead as he only gets a KB off the forward throw so mash 2 or 4. His restand is only +5 ish so usually the Jax player is almost guaranteed a f33 where ur only option is jumping and then u have to risk a f2 instead. Jax doesn't do a crap ton of damage off combos as he relies on reading u constantly. As for getting around his staggers u have to read the Jax player's habits and adjust accordingly. His zoning capabilities is entirely dependent on how much heat he has as heat missiles are easily his best projectile, ground pound amp has a gap and thumper is ok but not that great if u have to trade fullscreen. Dedicated zoners like Jade, Cetrion and Skarlet will give him a lot of problems and anyone with good footsies that outrange Jax can be troublesome (Kabal, Sonya, Scorpion). He looks good on paper but is about mid tier to above mid tier tho that has more to do with the top 5 completely outshining everyone else and Jax is only really saved by his fatal blow that gives him a chance against zoners which makes his comeback factor crazy good considering he is fully heated and has at least 2 or 3 KBs available if they weren't used yet and he can even choose to move back and zone with heat missiles if he really wanted to giving him plenty of options to work with.

Jax can be zoned. He is neg 7 after his overhead string ender, so don't let him press buttons for free after (every online jax ever tries to d1 after f33 13 lol). Most of jaxs damage comes from his crushing blows

When I play against him online, if I don't flawless his gaps, I try to contest his negative framed with my 8-frame d1, but the animation doesn't even start before he blows through with his own pressure. If you're not playing on a monitor or tv with tiny input delay, all that shit might as well be plus. TV delay + online delay = one busted character. I play a handful of Jax's and I don't think any of them have ever stopped pressing buttons during any of our matches. Why would they?

Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but typical online delay in a good connection is around 4 frames, right? So that -7 really becomes more like -3. Non-gaming monitors can tack on an extra 1-5 frames of delay. That shit adds up fast when trying to react to throws, staggers, cancels, etc.

Ok but here’s my serious answer, most Jax’s opt to use his overhead f2(1+3) and not his low ender (f2d2). Unless you know how to fuzzy I’d just opt to take the low. He doesn’t get much off the low, he doesn’t even get oki. You can flawless block the overhead but any good Jax will notice that and incorporate throws and staggers into his game so being able to tech a throw will eliminate that unless he can command grab then ducking may be wise albeit risky. He is very easy to zone out so if you can I’d definitely do that. A lot of characters outrange him too, so use that to your advantage. And lots of Jax’s including me will do an immediate d1 after the 1+3 overhead. Make sure you check this! Use a mid a low whatever you can because if you don’t they will abuse it.

Edit: to clarify, when I play Jax’s and I see them end the string with the overhead i immediately input my f3 which is a 9 frame mid. It blows up any mashing. If I can do it with a 9 frame move you can do it with a 7/6 frame d1

online he is s tier for sure. stagger F2's, F3's it's BS. once he is up close prey to the elder gods. he's safe too what makes him very braindead. how to beat jax? well i just go for the mirror, most jax players will get frustrated by their own playstyle in my experience. other than that, i think cetrion is a good pick against him.

Always aim to block high after he does f33 or f2. If theres a slight pause after those strings are blocked, you take your turn with your fastest poke. If you block his overhead 1+3 you take your turn. You have to not give him any respect. Also zone him out.

Lol I swear I've posted this a million times, I need to just copy it somewhere so I can paste it every time this question is asked:

F2 = -4 : poke him. It's your turn
F2,1+3 = -7: Flawless block the overhead, or go into pressure. It's your turn. Do not do a high attack after this, he can fraud it to his turn with d12.
F3 = -11 : poke him or punish with quick mid. It's your turn.
F33 = -4 : poke him. It's your turn.
F33, 1+3 = -7: Flawless block the overhead, or go into pressure. It's your turn. Do not do a high attack after this, he can fraud it to his turn with d12.
F2 D4 = -20 : punish him with a forward advancing string cause it has pushback or dash in a pressure. It's definitely your turn.
F4 = +1 : gotta hold his D1. It's not your turn.
B3 = -9 : go into pressure. It's your turn.
B2 = -17 : punish him. It's definitely your turn.
gotcha grab = -17 : punish him. It's definitely your turn.
dash punch = -16 : punish him. It's definitely your turn.
ex dash punch = ? : whiffs if you duck. DO NOT DO A HIGH ATTACK WHEN THIS WHIFFS.

Keep him full screen if possible. Characters that zone him out do really well.
Skarlet, Jade, Cetrion, etc

I dont know about how delay works online or whether or not you need this or that tv, this or that monitor, wired vs wireless controller, ect. Your gear may not be good for playing this game online if you cannot contest -7 though. I can check kabals f224 into poke with my own 6 or 7f poke and thats only a 2f window.

This is unless there is rollback or someone is on wifi, then no i cant. And i dont play those people lol
