How to Avoid Spoilers on TYM

There's been a lot of discussion lately, and it's been a topic in the past too, and that's spoilers in the titles of tournament threads. There are reasons why we might want to put the name of winners in titles, which have been discussed intensively, and we will not be discussing it here.

Instead, I am going to provide a solution, demonstrating how you can navigate the site, keeping up to date with all the latest Injustice 2 and MKX news, without accidentally seeing tournament results that you hadn't had the chance to catch up on yet.

If you come here, looking for the latest Injustice 2 news, all you have to do is copy the following link and save it as a bookmark in your browser:
https://testyourmight.com/forums/injustice-2.472/
Then, next time you want to come here to check up on Injustice 2, you can just go straight there, scroll down the page to see all the recent Injustice 2 threads and articles, and keep up to date without having to worry about seeing any tournament results, as these are posted in a different forum.

Same applies if you are coming here to check for any MKX news or to go to any of the MKX character forums. You can do the same thing but use the following link:
https://testyourmight.com/forums/mortal-kombat-xl.195/

As you can see, the key is to just avoid the home page, which is where all recent threads, including those posted in the tournament forums will show up. But you can also see that this does not affect you in any way in keeping up with the latest Injustice 2 or MKX news, as this will all show up in the respective forums.

I hope this helps those who may not be that experienced with navigating forums, and would like to navigate the site without running the risk of seeing spoilers from tournaments.

Good idea Sneaky, but should people really be relegated to going between every forum just to keep up with recent threads?

I don't even understand the concept of spoiler.
You don't want to be surprised now, you want to be surprised later.

What is the difficulty/downside to people doing so?
The same question could be asked about keeping spoilers from the title, but like you said that's a different thread's discussion. The difficulties/downsides are:
  • To view a specific recently active thread you'd have to find and go to its forum instead of just being able to see and go to it on the front page
  • If there are new threads not to do with Injustice 2 or MKX then people aren't going to see them/know they're there without going to that specific forum, which would mean having to check multiple forums just to keep up with recent activity on the site
  • This doesn't prevent the "New Threads" part of the site on the right from being spoiler-free
  • If people want to see new threads and use the "New Posts" hyperlink to see them there's the chance of also seeing the spoilers as they could be a part of the new threads
Just seems like it's way more effort to navigate the site with spoilers than without, just my opinion. I know you have your reasons though.

Let me put it this way.

If there is an NRS tournament that I'm not able to watch on stream, and I haven't gotten around to seeing it in the archives, I'm simply not coming back to TYM until I've done so.

I think it's naïve to think that people are going to jump through a bunch of hoops, to avoid seeing spoiled results. The easiest thing to do is just avoid the site entirely. And if that's the case, I don't think TYM is served best in that scenario, if "promoting a player's name" is the primary concern.

If you didn't watch superbowl the results will be all up in the news. Are you going to cry "spoiler" at nbc?
Didn't think so.

One thing to bear in mind. This is not me telling those people that this is constantly how they should access the site, it's merely an intermediary solution for a select few group of people to keep up to date with Injustice 2 and MKX news during the day/few days where they haven't caught up on a tournament that they eagerly want to see.

Let me put it this way.

And that's your prerogative. If you really think what I've described is "jumping through hoops", then I don't know what to tell you. It's really not difficult at all and is actually how many people access the site normally.

I've explained it multiple times about how it is more than just "promoting a player's name". You can see a more detailed description here:

Something like Kombat Cup is incredible for the scene, and it's something that is probably taken for granted. But things like Kombat Cup can only keep running while there is interest in them. After there had been a period of dominance from Sonic, Scar and Dragon, interest in results threads (and in return, Kombat Cup itself) dropped. Putting the name of an unexpected winner in the title has already proven to draw back in the attention of people who had lost interest in the event.

I'm going to do my part in helping to bring attention to events like the Kombat Cup, and as there is a solution with minimal drawbacks, I don't think that many complaints are warranted.

Okay, fair enough. I feel a lot better about the situation, now that I know the reasoning behind it. Thanks,

@SneakyTortoise Don't pull ya titty out and place it in the mouths of the crying children.

This is no different the Facebook,Twitter, or Pornhub. If you dont want spoilers then stay away for a little bit. But if you do, then prepare to more then likely get dicked by spoilers. After that its just a matter of churning the shaft that keeps you updated on the potential of hype matches and epic news.

So please...if these people know a tornament or aomething is close they should know to stay off TYM to avoid spoilers. If not then get creamed

With this being such an easy solution, no one should come here complaining about spoilers.

You had it completely spelled out for you by The Tortoise, so either use it or just keep the complaining to yourself. I'd like to consider this whole issue resolved now.

Yes, there are minor annoyances like what @Youphemism pointed out, but I say that's all entirely up to the person. You may not like it, but if you really want to avoid spoilers THAT badly, well, you have zero reason not to do it.
