Best Wake Up Options for Glacius?

Northern Slasher

What do you guys do when you find yourself in a corner against a Jago or Sabrewulf and just can't seem to get out? All my wake ups seem to get stuffed, and I find myself guessing overhead/low/grab. Would love to hear some tips! Thanks in advance.

That's a tough one im no glacius expert but the least i can say is trying to do puddle punch on wake up against Sabrewulf is not a great idea, especially in the corner cuz of his dash. As for Jago his mixups aren't as crazy as the :DOGE so if your afraid your wakeup wont hit best to just block, his overhead is slow, low ( you will already be holding down back), and crossup is see-able.

Just gotta hold that and block it man. the second you get breathing room hold a light hail to protect you in case they start a combo on you, and then capitalize on them when it hits them. as soon as you start a combo if they get locked out then tack on the damage and do a the hail juggle ender, as they're coming down from the bounce hit them with either lp, mp, or hp, cancelled into cold shoulder to get out of the corner. after that people tend to tech roll right into you and if they're pressing buttons interrupt their wakeup with mk and it should stuff it into a combo depending on what their wakeup is. shadow dps this doesn't work. if they aren't waking up and you think they're going to block, cancel mk into hail and create more mind games. after awhile, they begin to want to break your hail juggle ender follow ups, so that's why i change up between lp mp and hp into either hail or cold shoulder depending on whether i'm stuck in the corner or midscreen. don't forget to stuff their wakeups with hp if it's applicable (always be aware of opponents meter). After awhile of doing this, you'll condition them to think that you aren't gonna wake up and you're going to block. after that happens your wakeups will mean more instead of constantly getting stuffed. hope this helps!

His shoulder and shadow shoulder are stuffable.

Puddle punch is but it's different to time.

Shadow hail is really good against opponent jumping on your wakeup .

I would say each wakeup has a good use for different situations.

Puddle punch I see a lot. But it's punishable on block and on neutral jump. Enhanced puddle u can get jumped over and punished. They all have a use so I don't think there is a best wakeup tbh.

That's great advice Mistah thank you very much i'll give that a shot! Thank as well Energy... definitely need to stop the puddles against Sabre. Never ends well for me.

Puddle punch is invincible for the first 10 frames and acts as an opener if it hits.

Worried about it being unsafe? Cancel it into EX hail and your at advantage.

Your good to go.

Or I could even cancel it into a Shadow QCF Punch (I can't remember the move for the life of me) for some unblockable damage and a HKD correct?

If you do cancel into shadow hail it still can be punished if the opponent uses a shadow move through it, if puddle punch is baited you are never truly safe if they have meter.

If you're referring to EX Shatter, then no. It's not unblockable and if you do it that close you'll more than likely get shadow countered. personally i don't cancel puddle punch into ex hail because a good player that sees this coming will do for example shadow windkicks or a projectile invulnerable move. When it comes to Glacius, there's two important instances. When a player is being aggressive and unpredictable, your best wakeup 90% of the time is to block. Other than that, it's either puddle punch to stuff their normals (if timed right or it can result in you getting stuffed into full combo) or cold shoulder out of their pressure or jump ins. Just be careful using cold shoulder to wake up out of pressure, a good player that knows his spacing and timing will jump in on you just in time everytime to stuff your cold shoulder before it can get out.

In which case a simple puddle punch will blow this up.

And the meta goes round and round and round and round.
God man that's why i love this game lol. That and all the little mindgames built in to breaking even shadow moves. 1,2,. . . 3 or 1, . . . 2, 3, and every other possibility. Endless mindgames

Ok, so from the Glacius players what's the most frustrating thing that someone pressures you with as you stand up?

Is it a really late neutral or forward jump? I bet that's what it is. Can be used to bait puddle punches and also beats tech attempts and jump backs.

A lot of Glacius players I've played lately have been throwing around L / M Puddle Punches with NO fear at all. Super frustrating.

EDIT:

(for fear of this dropping off the front page and no one ever seeing it: @Orochi @Mistah iiCeMan)

From when I played it was neutral jumps because unfortunately puddle punch does not anti-air if baited right, once you train the glacius player to tech grabs you can neutral jump him all day. And it has such a low risk because of the absurd crap damage that anti air in this game does. well timed cross up jumps will beat anything glacius does. I've also been grabbed out of puddle punches and shadow puddle punches.

To the exact opposite of that; if you have shadow meter and the opponent doesn't then you are always at advantage!

If this is the case bait puddle punch with neutral jump, this character is pretty bad but I'll let the delusional keep playing him :p

Then wake up with shadow hail and hit them out of the air.

No Glacius is not the best character in the game, but he certainly isn't the worse. Stop trying to make it sound like he isn't viable.

Risk getting grabbed and lose a meter, guess guess keep guessing :p
Then your timing and reaction speed must be terrible; no offense. I was the one who put you and post human on blast because you said Glacius couldn't cancel grab into instinct then combo; which he clearly can...remember?!?!?

So for better or worse I can't take your word for it...sorry Orochi. I like you I really do.

Yeah they must be, all these glacius players making top 8s and winning majors know more than me ;)

Glacius is pretty free on wakeup. Puddle punch has invincibility on startup (while hes a puddle in the ground) so thats probably your best choice, but keep in mind its a slow reversal and can be baited easily. It's not really a wakeup you have to respect. Shoulder is good for getting away from crossups, but make sure its a delayed crossup, a properly timed crossup will meaty it. Shoulder works well vs sadira to get away from corners and such.

If you plan on attending tournaments I'd suggest picking up another character. At the level this game is being played now especially in tournaments, there are far more viable characters than Glacius. Can't go wrong with Sabrewulf, Jago, Or Sadira.

Well ya, because the best players like J Wong and Rico Suave are rush down players. Even Rico plays a rush down Fulgore. They wouldn't use Glacius because he is a pure zoner. They wouldn't use him even if he was the best character in the game.

Just like Doomsday vs Aquaman in this years Grand Finals MLG Injustice. There's no way Doomsday is better overall than MMH or Batgirl, but yet he makes top 8 quite a bit. Not enough high level players use Glacius to get him in top 8.

When it comes to tournaments it's about the players not the characters...just like I hardly see anyone beat filthirich when he plays Glacius. He dominates Rico and others I have seen. If he played Glacius consistently at tournaments Glacius would not only be in top 8; he would have won a tournament by now.

I see your points (and you make some good ones) but I just disagree with you...that's all.

Good day, Orochi.

You don't have to perform a wake up attack you can simply just block.
