Question Best Person You've Ever Played? (by character)

mortal_jason

Kitana's Bodyguard
Hey guys...
Maybe this has been done before? Remember it's an MK2 thread...

But I wanted to make a list of who I consider the best I've ever faced, by individual fighter.
I've played A LOT of matches these past few years. Here is my list of the cream of the crop:

LIU KANG- scorpangel
His golden punches, anti-airs, and overall skill with Liu made him the toughest. Jump at him AT YOUR OWN RISK! Impossible to attack with most fighters because of Liu's low toe... And the damn Bicycle Kick the moment you unblock....
Runner-Up: Foozer1

KUNG LAO- MIKECALDWELL
Mike's a beast with everyone, but his Lao is the really tricky one. He constantly floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee. I can't think of anyone harder to pin down than Mike's Lao.
Runner Up- KANOMK2

CAGE- real_talk718
VERY few people can make bottom tier Johnny Cage look like top tier. RealTalk was one of those elite. He just had perfect timing with him, and even gave my Kitana a run for her money.
Runner Up- ProjectilePoint

REPTILE- BrOkeN
Not sure if that's exactly his gamer tag, but BrOken's Reptile was something else. He 8 streaked me in Reptile mirrors a few years ago, forever earning my respect (and leaving me wanting another shot at him today!).
Runner Up- btbb99

SUB-ZERO- MIKECALDWELL
Speaking of those that can make bottom tier look like top, Caldwell has the sickest of the sick Subs.
He is the last person to beat my Mileena with Sub (usually the easiest match in MK2 for me).
Smart, precise, and a top tier DESTROYER!!
Runner Up- btbb99

SHANG TSUNG- ?
When I was new to PS3, I played some guy on OG who absolutely blew my mind with how he played Shang.
Of course on OG, you have no way of knowing who you're playing once you're in the game. So I never caught his name. Anyway, this mystery Shang morphed so smoothly into other fighters- instantly doing their specials. And just overall played smart. I've played lots of Shangs but never one like that.
Runner Up- ten-peace-show

KITANA- MIKECALDWELL
It's no secret that in my early PS3 days, Mr Caldwell 25 streaked me in Kitana mirrors. A year later, I perfected IAFs and started swinging sets in my favor. Then HE perfected IAFs and caught back up.
As of today, we would probably go 25-25 in a set of 50 Kitana mirrors. That's saying a lot considering how rarely I lose Kitana mirrors.
Runner Up- KANOMK2

JAX- btbb99
Scorpangel's Jax seems impenetrable because of all the golden punches, but btbb99's is the best I've faced.
His variety makes him hard to read. He punishes all your mistakes, and doesn't give you much. Anytime he lands a throw, you can expect to lose 1/3 of your health because he will not miss a damn Multi-Slam.
Runner Up- scorpangel

MILEENA- Insane_Nikidemos (aka InsaneBoss/bucktown)
His Mileena was the very definition of "top tier perfected". No Mileena has ever made me feel so helpless.
He NEVER missed difficult combos and even when he was on danger, he had a way of slithering his way to a win.
My 7 streak on him with Kitana is my personal best accomplishment in MK2.
Runner Up- MIKECALDWELL

BARAKA- real_talk718
Honestly I haven't played any Baraka-only specialists. Always wanted to play Daegen but I guess he was before my time. Haven't played Real_Talk too much, but I do remember thinking his Baraka was incredibly smart.
Runner Up- MIKECALDWELL

SCORPION- MIKECALDWELL
Ugh, the Scorpion that both confuses and abuses! You just can't pin this guy down. His aggression is really unlike any Scorpion you've ever seen. That combined with the defense he can play with him also, makes for one nasty Scorp.
Runner Up- Str8Magnificent

RAIDEN- btbb99
If you think Mike's Scorp is bad, try playing btbb's Raiden for a spell. His Raiden will confuse you so much your head will spin. Overall this is the Raiden that has given me more trouble than any other, even giving my Mileena fits.
Runner Up- Jester315

Im happy to see people talking about MK2 again!
You haven't been on ps3 in years though have you?
If you saw Caldwell's Lao, Sub, Kitana, and Scorp now... I'm sure you'd rank them at the top.

Yea I really hope MK2 don't die out man. It seems to be gaining more tournament exposure within the recent years.
This might bring some out the woodwork.

You're right tho, this is just from what I remember. I'm sure things are much different now.

For this list, I just put ppl which had a lasting impression on me with certain characters.
Kensidj, for example: I remember the first time I saw someone do a Lao dive kick slice fatality...that was Kensidj man, smh, and it was just too cool.

stuff like that's probably the norm now but seein anything great like that, for the first time, jus sticks with a person you know?

it's funny because he annihilated me lol, but still I put him 1st because his execution was perfect and after that point it was like.. I jus wanna move like that.
It's the style you know? That's what draws a lotta ppl to certain players. It's who they wanna emulate more coupled with a person's status. Kensidj was already legendary for a long time before I picked up the game, which is why I favored his style over others. It's not necessarily because he was a better player.

You and Mike were starting to come to your own but were already great players when I left PS3. Being completely honest, and there's... a little bit of pride involved here :D, it's hard for me to put all my favor towards y'all because it was more like we were in the same class you know? Maybe not in skill level, because you both definitely surpassed mine, but class like NBA Draft. We were rivals dude and you know me, I'm f_ckin super competitive and play to win.

Playing either of you now, I can't really say it would change my preferences with characters because it's hard to forget the first kickflip you've seen or the first ankle breaking crossover but I think it would be more obvious who the top players are. I couldn't split every character between the two of y'all tho ...I COULD, lol, but nah.

I've said too much already. Appreciate you acceptin me back Jay, it's a good feelin.

Kensi's Lao is ok... but I babalityed him 3xs in a row last year with Reptile when we actually had a great connection.
Lao destroys Reptile. So, just sayin. I wouldn't babality Mike's Lao with Reptile. And certainly not 3xs in a row.

But yeah I hear ya.
Certain things always stick in your mind when you see someone do something cool w a character for the first time.

Good to have old school MK2 guys back. The biggest reason there aren't more people on is because the condition of the online gameplay.
The lag, and the MKAK version keep lots of good players away. I mean, in bad lag, I could lose to a complete noob.
What kind of great players want to put up with that crap?

Have you gotten a chance to see my youtube videos? Some great matches on there vs btbb99, Kensi, scorpangel, Foozer etc...

"but I babalityed him 3xs in a row last year" LOL - you crazy jay. I believe you it's jus funny you said that. last year like "oh, that's old news."

It's sad to think MKAK was supposed to be the answer and instead it just ruined the experience for a lotta ppl.
..but you an Mike got really good tho man. It's always interesting what develops during a change in leadership too.
This might not be the case with everybody out there because y'all definitely get a lot of respect from the community.

I'm jus sayin, it's just funny what happens when a person who's been reputable for such a long time all of a sudden gets showed up.
I hear stories man...even bein away from the game. Before you know it, their opinion of everything MK related spreads like cancer.

* MKAK is known to have a lotta flaws tho and I understand that.

Truth is all of this is jus speculation and only a theory. I can really only speak from my own personal experiences with the game.
Whenever "I" got showed up tho...it stung pretty bad. So for someone much higher up in rank to get "brought down"
man, not a lotta good might come from that situation you know what i'm sayin? But like before, this might not even be the case with a lotta ppl
and I'm not even really tryin to single nobody out. ...although I do hear stories. ::eye-brow raised::

As for the matches, I did catch a little bit of you vs btb and then I saw that one vs Foozer :( ssss....ouch.
You said, "mission accomplished" at the end. LOL

Foozer's my boy tho man, he know. Different things added up which had him catchin a lotta sh_t from respected ppl, it's ok.
Just like me though, a lotta that might've been self-inflicted. He was always real cool to me tho man, I appreciated him a lot.

That scorpangel match does sound pretty good but I'd really like to see: mortal_jason vs MIKECALDWELL

We won't get started on Foozer. I've tried MANY times to be friendly with him, even put aside differences.
I think when he bragged that he would 20 streak my Kitana with Jax, and I instead beat him 18-2, that was the end of that.

You'll see m_j vs Caldwell when we can play in a great connection :)
I'm sure he has some matches up on youtube from tournaments, but I didn't play so hot :(

And people wonder why SF is so much more popular than MK. Capcom actually listens to its fans and is forward thinking when it comes to player and fan friendly features. It is still mind-boggling that to this day the classic games have not included a spectator mode. If MKAK had a spectator mode, streaming the classic games would be a shit-ton easier than it is right now, as in virtually impossible.

It's always different in a tourney setting, no biggie. I'd be more interested in casual's anyway - more risk and randomness involved. Players can relax you know.

Watched you vs Kensidj yesterday. He's still really good but you seemed to have him scratchin his head at a few diff points:
1) crouching lk with female ninjas & standing lk with male ninjas for positioning/spacing
2) IAF's of course
3) first match where he was caught twice with an uppercut by JC after trying to cross you up with Baraka's Blade Fury, damn. He probably wasn't prepared for all that.
Pretty impressive tho jay - didn't even really seem like that difficult of a challenge.

The matches vs Insane Nicodemus were way more entertaining. I had to lol a few diff times on those one's. He's beast, get him goin and it can be fun to watch.

Speakin of Kensidj tho, I remember him and KANOMK2 used to have some heated battles on Kaillera. Is KANO still active?
If so, how do you fare against him?

Mortal Kombat's Enterprise/Development seems to be a direct reflection of the community behind it. Take that with a grain of salt because I'm not saying one is better than the other. I'm not sayin Capcom or Street Fighter is any less competitive either. What I am saying is MK is MK with all it's Greatness, Flaw's & Pitfalls.
You can bet there's a lot less death threats on the SF Community than on MK. Not only that but the Japanese don't believe in that kind of violence in Video Games.
Porn?? ..ok. Death and Mutilation ..dekinai. "Cannot"

Capcom, imo, seems to have things more together on a Development and Business level to where they know what they wanna do and how they wanna go about doing it.

With MK9 tho it seems things are starting to turn around and they're beginning to listen more, that's why MKX release is so important...

Glad you enjoyed the matches. The matches with Kensi were in a perfect connection. A rarity on MKAK for sure.
It's amazing how much lag handicaps me. In no lag I put the hurt on elite players. In lag, I'll struggle to even beat 1300 players.

Always love playing InsaneBoss. Our connection has been near perfect to perfect each time we've played since 2010.
And his Mileena is the biggest challenge you'll find.
Actually got a 6 streak on his Mileena with Jax in one of our sets. I'm sure he wasn't happy about that!

I've played KANOMK2 a few times on Mame. It was laggy of course. I beat him both sets, and about 35-15 in randoms the last set.
He said I was the best player he's ever played, but I don't put much stock in it because of the frame delay.
(Apparently he has since then told other people that I'm not that good LOL.)
It was obvious to me that he was an incredible player. His Lao was most impressive.
But there's really no way to play people that live on different continents, legitimately.
Maybe someday.
