What's new

Basically what Shao Kahn is reduced to doing since his strings are bad.

Shao Kahn is mid tier, yes one of the lowest in the game and we all understand that. All I'm saying is we know his many weaknesses, complaining about it more and more will get us nowhere. Hes going to get fixes but until then we should focus on doing something productive
To be fair NRS games is not really in-depth.

Can y'all stop acting like Jackal is a godlike shao kahn? lol

The guys he is playing against aren't even that amazing if they keep getting hit by F2 and F34. If you're gonna talk about a Shao Kahn player you got ForeverKing and Rico who know him better.

Bro hes playing in a tournament against competition. Dont belittle the players until you get in there and play for yourself. Hes one of the few Shao Kahn players we see in tournament and hes dominating. We should critique and learn from him

That's how I play him! I hate combos. Learning them is a pain in the brain. Kombo Kombat isn't for me.

1. All I've been doing is criticizing his matches. He over relies on F2 which is one of his worst moves, doesn't use B4 or F4 often which are his key moves. The best thing about his gameplay is that he is able to pull off the optimal 1 meter combo that Shao Kahn has.

2. There is literally nothing to learn from him as this playstyle is only good against people that don't know the matchup against Shao Kahn. Which is literally every single match that he is up against. So copying this style of play will only do you more harm than good as the game progresses.

I know combos with him. It's just that with Shao Kahn you can't really go for them against better players who know better. As all his combos start with high strings which are punishable If reacted to. Not playing this way because I want to. Just don't want to add risk to my gameplay.

I don't hold out any hope of NRS "fixing" Kahn. There's more change of a modding tool being created, in the vein of SFIV and V, that allows the community to tweak the game to their tastes, than NRS doing something positive for the game's underwhelming "plays like a boss" characters.

NRS are historically deaf, dumb and stupid, when it comes to tweaking their games -- and they have already demonstrated they are again true to form, with their first few nerf patches towards the game's steady lurch towards cookie-cutter oblivion: I could do 600+ Ridicule damage before recent patches; now even reaching 600 is a near impossible... And they continually do this, irrespective of what characters may actually need nerfs. It's like they look at Kahn, see a big and scary "boss" character (*erstwhile), and then begin bashing the nerf button like casuals mash single-button mapped LT+RT the moment they see it flashing below their character's health bar!

It's another example of why building a fighting game around the mythical notion of "balance", only leads to a watered-down, samey product -- because it forces them to start from a very low base, to then further nerf any existing "imbalance" from, which results in all the fun being sapped out of the product, and for the sake of very little. By the time they finishing nerfing everything in MK11, Shao Kahn will be Cassie Cage + a hammer, and Kotal, Jacqui + operable legs!

Looks like a lot of the poros are catching on about Shao Khan now while labbing for CB. There is a massive twiitter discussion about how he is the most underrated chart in the game at the moment.

Tweedy, Jackal, Boroeto, BurritoVoorhees, King Raptor, Big-D and more all saying the same thing now.
Shao Kahn is definitely the most underrated character right now. Top tier wave dash, his f3 is def hit confirmable with enough practice, solid buttons. This is why people gotta relax with wanting a patch right away. Cassie nutkicking under Geras shit. Things change bruh.
I love Jackals response!!
Been trying to tell cats to just play the game and wait for the meta to get fleshed out before starting with all this tier nonsense, but nooooo smh. I told everyone to wait until they pass judgment on characters and mfs didn't want to listen. OH NOW Y'ALL WANNA CHANGE YOUR OPINIONS HUH? Mfs couldn't WAIT to send out their half cocked opinions on a game that JUST CAME OUT, like you could learn everything about the entire roster in just a couple weeks!
lol... so true... a few days ago "everyone" thought jacqui was shit : )

the only "succusful" Shao Kahn right now is Jackal and it's because he's facing people who don't know the match-up. The only reputable player you listed is Tweedy. Who is only acknowledging his strengths and is missing his huge list of weaknesses

Forever King who is an ACTUAL Shao Kahn main and is a top professional player knows more about Shao Kahn than any other professional player and says he is trash.

We already know Shao Kahn's strengths and weaknesses. That's why we think he is bad, because he has FAR more weaknesses than he does have strengths. That's not to say he doesn't have tools and that he can't win.

It took me awhile to realize that lol. I wanted to go ham but it doesn’t work like that in real players like it does in the towers.

What do you do to push people off of you? I’m okay in the mid game but once someone is in my face I have a hard time, especially in the corner.

That's where Shao Kahn struggles. You'll have to block and poke back with D1 and D4. If you land a hit you can go for F3 or B4. Possibly a hop 3/4

Where exactly they said he is viable in the quotes you posted? They said he is UNDERRATED. They said he has god tier movement, which we have also said.

They said he has solid buttons.

He does, besides f2 which for a high hitting move is slow af. We said that he is UNSAFE af, not that he does not have solid buttons. The startups, besides f2, of his buttons are solid.

The block adv of his strings? Trash compared to the rest of the cast. Plz tell me of another character with so many COMBO PUNISHABLE full strings.

The gaps in almost all of his strings? Trash compared to the rest of the cast. Please tell me of another character with so many gaps.

As for the 1hit "Luke SKywalker" hit confirming, unless i see it done consistently in a tournament environment, which nerves can get the best of you, i m still not sold. F3 has good special cancel adv yes, but lets be real here plz. And even then, please answer me this:

Why in the blue hell SK is the ONLY one in the entire cast who has to commit into a one hit confirm cancel to a -20f on block special to get his dmg going?

Jacqui has a 9f mid combo starter. Why its not the same with her?

Noob has a 9f mid combo starter. Why its not the same with him?

Jax has a 9f mid combo starter. Why its not the same with him? And the list can go on and on.

Same applies with his b2.

P.S: Jackal is a very good rep of the Emperor, but he got away with murder so many times in the videos you guys posted, its not even funny. I was watching moves which are -20f and -16f on block and they were being punished with d1's, throws etc. Even then i hope he does well in CB. I ll be rooting for him.

Kahn benefits the most from the customisation (albeit, still rather stifled by the three-slot limit), while being hurt the most by the current gimped "variations".

As of typing, Shao Kahn is the literal "kasual mode only" character of the game.
  • Throw KB: needs intimate knowledge of opponents' frame data -- too arcane (*only activates on -10-frame and below "throw kounter punishes") to be a reliable tool, and throws are easily breakable at high level play
Verdict: D-MINUS TIER

  • Spear KB: needs x3 spears to IMPALE the opponent, making it useless -- unless explicitly combo'd for, which then circumvents what damage output 'advantage' (*apocryphal) he has
Verdict: E-TIER

  • Back-breaker KB: needs Ridicule taunt de-buff active -- rudimentary mistakes aside, it costs him anywhere from 140/250 (down-2) to 300+ damage (down-2 to combo / combos) punishment per use / attempt, and then also likely expending the de-buff in the process, due to its pathetically short duration; Ridicule is not included in his Annihilation / priest tournament preset, making it N/A (will never be used -> cannot be assessed)
Verdict: F-MINUS TIER

  • Down-2 KB: one of the best in the game: range, speed, follow-up combo potential, arc -- only weakness is its buggy-looking wiffing on close ranged, crouched opponents
Verdict: A-TIER

  • Annihilation KB: the most reliable KB he has, but, as is NRS's wont, the weakest (~240pts); forces both said special and the priest hammer buff equipped -- severely limiting load-outs within an already severely limited customisation system
Verdict: B-MINUS TIER

Shao Kahn Krushing Blow rating (average): E-TIER

I mean all I'm saying is there is someone bodying decent players with the 'worst character in the game' while people here who couldn't even hold a candle to this sub player even if they were maining Erron Black are crying for Shao Khan buffs a week in. It's pretty silly.
Didn't some dude beat Sonic fox with prepatch Jason in a set.

The whole 'its early' thing goes both ways. Some characters just get progressive worse, especially the uncommon ones when MU knowledge is actually fleshed out so you can't get away with gimmicks

Don't play khan or whatever but I always find these sweeping declarations of level up cos this person did well stupid.

Yeah there's a lot of baseless shitting on people and internet dick swinging.

Pretty sure Jackal switched to Kung Lao now lol just sayin
Literally, Daigo (Ryu-Guile) / SnakeEyez (Gief-Akuma) / ItabashiZangief (Gief-Abigail) all over again.

These fighting game's developers' so-called 'balance' is so 'perfected'', that it forces people to drop favourites, just so as to remain remotely competitive! In a sense, this could be construed as the devs vicariously deciding who will win tournaments -- by how they gimp given characters, which then affects who has to drop which char. that they may be better with (if they weren't fundamentally non-competitive), for another character who may not suit their play style. It should also not be underestimated how much more incentive a main that some actually likes, imbues on the player to do better. Being forced to use a secondary of lower favoured character, makes the grind to become good, that much more arduous.

So, again, to all those who bleat about "balance" this and "customisation is broken" that, and how fighting games are better sticking to yawn-inducing same-iness, than letting rosters run free, enjoy your half-dozen character tournaments, in your "balanced" fighting games, watched on stream by <50 people (which includes the parents and grandparents of those competing)... 'Cause this is what you asked for.

he hasn't dropped Shao Khan, it is still his main (for now) he is just trying out other roster slots as the game is so early no one knows what is good or not. Jackal is a bit of a Low Tier Hero though, so basically anything a scrub says is shit he will play and win multiple locals and get high placing at majors. Been like that for a long time.
