Top 5 Players That Inspired You To Pick Up A Character Project

Thats funny, you motivated me to play Cage to. When I saw you get sent to losers and give up on him at that one major I was like "damn REO really can make any character viable".

Lord Jerith also motivates me to want to get sponsored, hopefully one day I can be like you. I just need to not turn down offers from vVv next time.

I played Quan before I saw Dink but seeing him at Devastation made me interested in sticking with Quan and learning more about him. The rest are characters I had interest in and learned but the people who made them look fun and interesting were these people.

Tyrant inspired me to put more time into my Jax, but I was already playing him at the time.
I know it sounds silly but Tom made me want to pick up Cage at powerup last year, as did THTB with Reptile.

Watching T Brady with Cage at Power Up and Jop at Evo made me want to pick up Cage, but I just can't get into the character. Lord of the Fly inspired me to pick up Nightwolf and I remember debating whether to use Shang or CSZ next as a main and watching Pigs tutorial was a decider. My other mains, Sindel, Barak, Kano and the little bit of Sheeva, QC and Freddy I use was purely down to the fact no1 else was using them at the time.

1 - Kabal by Michaelangelo (though i did a lot kabalin in UMK3)

3 - Cyber Sub by Pig

I was looking for mind fucking characters with high learning curve. Though i dont find CSZ as high learning curve his bombs setups mixups are cool.

Can't believe I forgot Pigs Cyber, definitely the main reason I started playing Cyber sub awhile back. The up4 reset and the glue trap made that character a lot more fun to play.

Smoke - I smoke a lot and like akumas teleport too much. Braindead mixups inspired my love for good player who takelow blocking > 40% combo over high blocking> 1% pokes + chip.

Sonya - Some guy online whos name i didnt get because i rage quit during his babality. Military stance > high low mixup over my laggy wakeups was one way to double flawless someone who thinks sonyas low tier (dont act like you didnt either!)

Kenshi - Best selection of ranged pressure attacks, Attacks that push you full screen into that pressure, counter zoning reflect, fantastic character design. Underthemayo represents this character well in my opinion, showing his strengths well and working hard to cover his weak areas, definitely something i need to do a lot more.

I pick my "Flavour of the month" characters based on what im weakest in. Picked up johnny cage solely because i sucked at anti airing, helped immensely.

Smoke - KT Smith, saw him vs scoot and was really impressed.
Rain - used him since he came out, but CDJr caused me to play less like a total scrub.

-1- Rain (Book Burning)
: I always knew I would main him even if he was going to be trash. I love the character and it wasn't Book who inspired me to play him...no, no. It was Book though that showed me the way to really get the most out of Rain. I remember the first time I ever seen the RH dash cancel...he built meter so quickly, he played mind-games and he even used the enhanced version to walk right into one of my combos and absorb it. Simply put, Book Burning is the reason why I love Rain more than any other character in this game. :

Kabal- The person who started this funny thread. I knew I had to master Kabals technical wizardry after I saw Reo's dash cancel madness. Nothing better than a good technical challenge.

QuanChi- Huge shout out to Under the Mayo right here. I first saw the video on youtube the day you uploaded it and were still just on MKU. I liked quan and his runetraps before...but damn...those Quan videos you make are so freaking awesome! I became a quan addict soon after.

Smoke- First character I picked....he looked sweet...and I dressed up as him for halloween when I was around 8....those were the old mk days...also watching Aris tourney footage convinced me that smoke was viable as any top character

Sonya- Foxy Grandpa you are one funny and smart dude...enough for me to pick her up.

Ermac- people used to think he was really superduper great...I bought into his overhype and mastered him...oops

Tom Brady was the first name I came to know in the community and he absolutely was just a generally large factor in me and my friends picking up this game and learning how to play it at a high level. Thanks all!

Noob: Because I am obviously a noob, too, so I got him on a very platonic level.

i wish he hadn't dropped jade, i really wanted to see that.

only other char i picked up cause of a player was jade, cause i saw reo messing around with her on a vsm stream.

These players inspired me to follow the character and at least learn the cons and pros of the character:

Tom bradys: cage and subzero(powerup madness)
Jop: cage, raiden
Perfect legend: kung lao, raiden
Slips:Scorpion (was already maining scorpion at that point but he might have had some influence on me sticking with the character from now on)

Unique styles I like:

cdjr's smoke and jax
cd's kitana
morty seinfelds sonya
REO's mileena

Smoke was my very first character that I played without being influenced by anyone, because anti airing wasnt really found out yet at that point of the game and the rushdown characters being even more overwhelming than this version of the game, I had no choice but to drop him, hes my second though now.
