Lurker Coming Out For MK11

FanTalk

Like a lot of others I was on this site reading forums and comments without an account. From the start I was into the Mortal Kombat lore but I kept drawing my self to the competitive scene and until eventually I cave in and started to play competitively.

Influenced by GGA Dizzy, Pig Of The Hut, TekkenMaster, Dragon/HoneyBee, Tom Brady, REO, SonicFox, and Big D.

I'm not a scrub per say but by no means am I pro. Sometimes my gameplay will be on point sometimes I'll be sloppy. I'm joining TYM to sharpen my skills along with meeting and making new friends. I've been in other FGC sub communities and honestly my experience with the NRS community has been the best. I love you all.

One last thing. I want to become an video game psychologist, not the one your thinking about. More of a specific fighting game psychologist, and in hopes to make into academia. I'm currently in pursuit of a Master's degree.

Welcome to the forums @FanTalk

Just a question if you don’t mind me asking,
Why didn’t you decide to create an account before? We’ve noticed a lot of people lurking for a long while and finally creating an account and wanted to know what we’re missing as a whole or why lurkers aren’t creating accounts right away

Enjoy the ride

First of, welcome!

You've definitely come to the right place if you want to train and get better. We have a great community of people who will train and lab with you because that's their goal as well.

Is gaming psychology a field now? Or is it something you want to focus research on? I have my degree but didn't want to get my masters for a ton of personal reasons way too long for an intro post.

Didn't have knowledge to participate in conversations that could benefit to others nor did I want to embarrass myself if I said something wrong or such. With past experiences in other communities I was shot down asking for help. So I was a bit discourage. Eventually as I migrated over to MKX/Injustice I met a few friends (PS4) who would eventually help train me, study, and learn everything I could about fighting games since late 2017.

Hope that answers your question.

fighting game psychology isn't actually a real field but I hope to make it real. And I'm glad to have the balls and make an account here. You all are so friendly and warm welcoming!

Don't let the occasional user being a jerk turn you away from asking anything here at all. Ask anything you want if you need help with something.

If someone is bothering you, report them and we'll go from there. However, don't mistake them just disagreeing with you as them being bothersome.

Its Game Over, Man
It's not just lurkers, this game is also bringing back some players that haven't been around since MK9 and, to a lesser extent, players that have been on hiatus such as myself. Seeing what I'm seen thus far has really lit a fire under me to finally step up from being a casual player into actually wanting to try my luck in some local tournaments.

Welcome, friend! I'm a former longtime lurker, myself. Let's make like cryomancers and break the ice: who are you most excited to play as in MK11?
"The Eye Of The Storm", the "Master Of Storms", the "Thunder God" Raiden. Besides him I genuinely love the roster so far. Cassie Cage, Erron Black, Jade, Kotal Khan, and Geras are also on my list but mostly Raiden.

Great choice! Raiden looks the best he ever has in this game, IMHO. More emphasis on lightning-based zoning attacks is a huge plus for me. The red lightning is visually pleasing, as well.

Don’t let that stoping you from participating in threads and the staff keeps an eye on pretty much everything.

Hey hey HEY @FanTalk ! I'm in the same boat as you as far as being part of sub communities. But this one is the best and glad you're here. Enjoy your stay and don't hesitate to ask Uncle JBeezY for anything. Stay RIghteous ;)

Welcome @FanTalk ! If anyone gives you grief for asking a simple, honest question, they're a jerk and not worth your time.

I've had excellent experiences here on TYM, and so long as you steer clear of any drama, you'll be fine.

You're playstyle also sounds like mine, not a pro but not a scrub either, and sometimes I'm on point, other times not so much. I checked out and was going to take part in my local scene back during Mortal Kombat (2011), but I have a health condition that sadly got in the way.

The psychology thing you're looking at sounds cool as well. While I don't have formal training, understanding people and what makes them tick is invaluable in all aspects of life.

Welcome again, and enjoy your time here!

Welcome! If you have any questions at all feel free to ask the staff or myself!!

Any character, tech or specific gameplay question feel free to ask the rest of the tym community and if there isn’t a thread on something (be sure to use the search bar as well) , make one!

Hope you enjoy the site..and have fun on test your might!

Welcome, OP!

I was in the same boat. While I discovered this site two months ago, I merely lurked - but I am so excited about MK11 that I wanted to talk about it (most sites I frequent don't make frequent talks about MK). MK and Resident Evil are my favorite franchises and both are doing so well lately (compared to ten years ago). Never happier to be a fan and talk about those two franchises!
