What's new

The Herd of Console Sheep

"Hey man, I'm thinking about selling my car for something new. Any suggestions?"
"Why not buy a Corvette? 6.2L V8 and 650 Hp with enough Chevy torque to fly to space."
"That's a lot of money."
"Ok understood. So don't waste money on a Civic. Mission complete."
For argument's sake, even a cheap 400 to 500 dollar pc would beat a PS4 on specs and performance. But, realistically, since a PC is a multipurpose machine that can be used for everything besides just gaming, it makes sense to invest more. I have a 3000 dollar threadripper pc armed to the teeth. But, that's enthusiast grade (not for everyone) and anything in the 800 to 1000 dollar range should be a huge upgrade over a console for most users.
This is my point exactly. Thank you for stating it. For whatever reason, people keep thinking that I said you can't build a more powerful rig than the PS4 Pro for under $500. That's why I hate text debates. If they could hear me in person, the message would not be misconstrued.

This makes sense for this analogy. But back to the PC build analogy:

"I want to build a gaming PC that marginally outperforms the spec of the PS4 Pro. I think I can do it for around $400.00"

"Ok, but isn't building a PC with those specs sort of a waste of your time? It's going to take up a couple of hours not to mention installation of the O.S. and other supporting applications for gaming. Isn't this effort better worth your time if you make a stronger build with a few hundred more dollars? Besides, the PS4 Pro is already built for you and offers comparable performance and experience if you are just gaming on it"

"I don't have the extra money for a higher spec PC. I still want to build it. I can always upgrade in the future. And I don't really want a PS4 Pro."

"Ok, fine. Since you're going to upgrade, just save your money for now and just buy the parts when you have saved enough for a better build. Make your time and effort worth it. Otherwise, you might as well save the effort and just get a PS4 Pro which you are essentially planning to build anyway."

This a really great video of someone who built a budget PC and offered some benchmark info in comparison to the PS4 Pro.

This one is good for comparison to an Xbox One X

This thread was funny. Mastermalone, chill out bro. At no point in this thread did anyone ask for you to show case your tech knowledge and derail the thread. When the only dude liking all ur posts is Roy Arkon, it’s time to re-evaluate the point you are making. <3 Roy.
read my mind

the instant Roy Arkon likes a post of yours you know you messed up somewhere

but yeah, it's not like there isn't some advantages to be had by buying a console. e.g.:

The only issue I have with the whole PC vs console ordeal is that people just can't let others do what they want without shoving their opinion down someone's throat. This is from both parties.

I see it everywhere.
Yeah, it often boils down to the person trying to validate why their decision and investment is "better," and facts go out the window while insults and bias fly. You see that in other "debates" to.

Both kinds of platforms have pros, and both have cons. At the end of the day, video games are fun, play them and enjoy them on the platform that suits you. If you're actually playing pro, than you'll want to adopt the platform that is widely used as the professional standard for the game you're playing.

I wasn't in here for the likes. I was never upset. Quite the opposite. When I got called out on something, I responded. Also, I never knew that the only reason to post is for the likes. I guess the point I made to build a better PC is pretty stupid huh? Thanks for pointing that out.

Peace

It sure is not opinion from a PC user. It has technological backup and data. But, it sure is bovine opinion from console cattle.

I will leave my seal on you!

Don't listen to them dude, your points and approach were 100% valid. They just wanna derail the thread even further, as if it wasn't derailed enough already, and they will downgrade any logical person to do so even if it's just a joke for them. This is TYM after all.

It is opinion.

If someone says they enjoy gaming on a console more than a PC, how can a PC user prove that to be factually wrong?

You're the exact type of person I'm talking about. It's not someone saying consoles are better than PCs from a technological standpoint, but that they enjoy the platform more.

Then PC users come in with their 4k and 60+ FPS shit. Some people just. don't. fucking. care. They don't have to have any of that to enjoy it. So why try and shove it down their throat?

you say that like it's just a number

it's not

I'm confident he knows it's not a number, that doesn't mean people are going to care the same way hardcore tech guys do. People value things differently and those values impact their experiences differently.

Some people absolutely need to have everything running at the highest possible settings, the best modern resolution, with the highest frame rate and if they can't their experience is ruined. That's fine for them, but not everyone's like that.

Using the PC version of Mortal Kombat X, for example, while there's no question the port had lots of technical issues at launch and for a good while afterwards, I remember so many people were having issues that were self caused.

They refused to play on anything less than 1080p. They refused anything less than 60 FPS. They lost their shit when they found the intros locked at 30 FPS. Basically they refused to make any compromises to simply be able to play and enjoy the game. It was interesting to when lots of these super stubborn people were trying to play on hardware below the minimum requirements. Or people who just past the minimum expecting to play with everything maxed.

Me, I well exceeded the minimum and met much of the recommended system requirements. I adjusted the resolution down to 1600x900, was able to play with all other settings on high values and I got a solid frame rate and was actually able to play and enjoy the game. Would being able to play in 1080p have been visually better? Of course it would have. Did I need to have that or else the game would be trash? No.

You are 100% correct. From what I see, we are not allowed to back ourselves up when called out on a topic. Someone provided a "read it and weep" list of PC parts so I checked him on it. It was all because I said that you have to throw some dough at a decent PC build.

No matter the logic, it just escaped them. On the flip side, I totally got their point of what you could build for that cost. They failed to acknowledge my point of, if you're going to do the work to build a PC, why not build one that really makes the case for "way better than console?"

It will take more than $400.00 to achieve that. That was all I was trying to say.

yeah I think you two will make good buddies
What is your beef? You seem to have chip on your shoulders. I really wish that I could speak to you in person. That way you would not misconstrue what I've been trying to say. While we're at it, in your opinion what was my message to the readers on this thread? You don't have to answer, but I am curious.

Apparently you do care, which is why you remembered what I do for a living and why you mentioned it. I actually don't care what you do for a living either. I only mentioned it to show some credentials but whatever.

If you told me you can remodel kitchens and stated that you own a home improvement business, I'll be more inclined to hear your recommendations. I'm just being honest. By the way, I never called anyone here out of their names like you just did with that quote. I guess I'm an asshole for that.

I'm not stopping you or anyone from having fun. Do what you like.
