What's new

Aquaman + Shazam (Captain Marvel) trailers.

God Confirm

We're all from Earthrealm. If not, cool pic brah.
Toxic fans have chased the actress that plays her off social media. Apparently a lot of raciest stuff and complaints she isn't a drop dead babe wearing a skin tight bikini.

I mean I get that she isn't Orange, has a terrible wig, shoots fire instead green star blasts and all that, but when there is a transition into live action you have to realise that a lot of the stuff, just doesn't translate. Would I prefer her orange and shooting green lazer things... sure. Do I care how she looks in the trailer... not really.
We've seen Gamora in live action done incredibly well, and they also used a black actor for that, so I'd say your wrong. They could have done a fuckload better job on Starfire's image, it's a joke.

I think DC movies get way too much shit honestly, I mean BVS wasn't nearly as bad as critics say have to remember these are the same people who rated trash like the new Ghostbusters HIGHER due to PC, Feminist reasons. Once I read that from sites like RT I just stopped taking them seriously. I mean sure, of late DC films aren't as successful as Marvel but it doesn't mean they're utterly horrible either. Besides, TV, animation, gaming and comic wise DC is doing so much better than Marvel is right now. So I can live with their movies not dominating atm. They more than make up for it with everything else.

Yeah I never understood people harassing people for things like that or in general. That's the casting director and WB/DC's mistake, not the actor/actress. Some fans take it to a WHOLE new level of crazy and creepy. I would never do that, I just disagree with their casting choice(but to confirm my reasoning, not due to race or her hair but simply due to accurate source material) I remember when Injustice 2 hit, so many people were like "wow Starfire looks like J.Low" which personally I felt would have been a much better idea since she looks a lot like her, just have some orange makeup on her, give her the wig, green eyes and bam. Dead ringer. I get it that we live in an age of "diversity" and having to be "PC" now like 24/7 but sometimes it's not a good idea and this is a prime example. Not defending the nutjobs, racists and haters but I can understand the normal fans not agreeing with this choice. The problem is, those who fully support it will automatically assume everyone who "doesn't like it are =racist" that's not true. I for one am not, I just am a huge fan of source material accuracy as a huge fan and reader of DC comics. Know what i mean? I don't really care for the "sexy element" lol I mean the character has been sexualized for a while now(that's another debate all together)

I think everyone else was pretty accurate, but I do think they botched Starfire personally. Not enough to make me hate on the actress, the show or not want to watch. I'm so going to watch it, because I love DC almost as much as I love MK. lol I remember feeling the same way about Apocalypse in Xmen, I enjoyed the movie but I hated that look to me it looked nothing like him.

With Batman, you notice they're a lot more careful and won't just cast anyone because it's Batman. Personally I liked every Batman actor so far except Clooney(the worst) and Val Kilmer was passable, but not the best. I do think comic book accuracy wise Affleck and Keaton's are the two best. Bale's looked weak af compared to their versions honestly, and he kind of overdid it with the voice though I loved his Batman voice in BB.

He sounded like he was a pack-a-day guy by the third movie, in Batman Begins I barely noticed it.

Exactly lol. He had this mysterious yet intimidating whisper in BB, the TDK and TDKR he just over did it too much to the point of "dude you have throat cancer or something?"

I'm not even gonna remotely argue with anyone who thinks anything about Titans looks remotely good. It's a hot garbage fire that's going to explode. Get your Jason Grayson looking ass out of here. Raven doesnt even know who her father, ya know the demon overlord of destruction that raised her, is and has been downgraded to a cliched "THERES SOMETHING EVIL INSIDE ME" character. Beastboy looked fine I guess and Starfire looked just god awful for so many God damn reasons, none of which were race related in the slightest. Its gonna suck.

I'm not so sure Titans will suck, I'll withhold judgement until it actually airs. I think the general consensus is that most think Starfire looks like crap, Dick looks dead on, BB surprisingly better looking than expected and Raven is a lot darker than predicted. I remember people saying "Flash will suck, look at his dome head cowl" and yet it's easily one of the best comic shows on TV. So I'll wait, watch a few shows then judge. I've always been like that personally. I feel like Preacher is one of the best as well by far, yet nobody talks about it. Sad.

Besides that, I'm kind of debating with myself if I want to get this subscription service. I'm not sure Titans will do it for me but I adored Young Justice so I obviously have to watch that at some point. I'm curious how successful this service is going to be. I think it's asking a lot from consumers and there's gonna be people pirating the shit of of those shows.

Everything about it looks horrible. Even the characters look terrible, like really terrible. Doesn’t necessarily mean it will be terrible, but I probably won’t even watch it based on the trailer. Seems like a waste of time tbh.

It is better this way
Titans trailer is so bad, I wanna know one person that wanted to hear Dick Grayson say “fuck Batman”

And DC movies get more shit than they deserve but not by a lot. Justice League was awful, Wonder Woman was good, Suicide Squad was terrible, BvS was visually stunning but Batman and Superman were both portrayed terribly (then again portrayed terribly in Justice League for entirely different reasons), Man of Steel was okay. They have such great and beloved characters but instead they miss the point of what makes them great like Batman and Superman, or make them into a literal joke like Flash. Sure, the Flash is funny and a bit awkward but at the end of the day he’s a hero and he’s confident in himself and he will get serious.

I’m not even bashing DC, the comics are amazing right now. Batman is my favorite fictional character ever created and I even much prefer these DC characters to the Marvel characters but those movies are so much better outside of the Nolan Batmans, MCU Captain America is proof that you can still make a character good hearted and have that “old fashioned” sense of good and have it work for the better of the character, it doesn’t all have to be dark and edgy, movies aren’t “grown up” because they’re dark.

These are good trailers at least though and I gotta say Amber Heard is really beautiful

Superhero movies don't have to be anything. There's no magic formula for the tone that makes them a better movie. It's just a movie like all others, and it's quality will depend on how well it's made
I suppose I was generalizing too much, theres movies like Logan which I loved but wouldn't describe it as fun or pleasant, but Logan had 18 years for us to be invested in the character. I don't think it would be nearly as effective if it wasn't supported by the X-Men movies. The MCU movies are really what I was talking about, thats how to build a cinematic universe and I'd describe all those movies as fun, even the more serious ones like Winter Soldier and Infinity War. I always think of the Thor movies when it comes to that, the first two took themselves too seriously and they were kinda boring imo, but Ragnarok embraced how ridiculous all this stuff is and it was a lot of fun.

I actually think you're right and I'm wrong, they don't have to be "fun" as the first rule, they just need to respect and understand the characters, which these DCEU movies outside of Wonder Woman don't imo. Some people use "dark" and "serious" as talking points of why the DCEU is good but I'd use the Lego Batman movie as a counter argument. It was obviously not meant to be taken too seriously and despite it's joking tone, it showed more knowledge of Batman lore and Batman characters than BvS or Justice League by far. BvS had what amounted to the Punisher in a Batman costume and Justice League turned the world's greatest detective into a useless bumbling idiot, which sucks because Batman is my favorite superhero. DC is trying reaaaalllllyyyyyy hard to change that though.

both need to take a serious dark mature turn, to make up for it being so lighthearted.
What kind of nonsense...they dont NEED to do anything. What they need to do is portray their stories in an effective manner that is entertaining and accurate to the source material. That's it. They're clearly going to be serious moments, you can tell there will be for both Shazam and Aquaman. Do you know what you get when you tell DC their current version is too light hearted? You get Titans, no one wants Titans.

My entire decision on whether or not I get the streaming service is if the Swamp Thing trailer makes me scream like a giddy school girl. James Wan is in charge of that show too so hopefully Aquaman is a promising foreshadowing of its quality.

You'd be surprised how many Titans fans there are. The books are awesome and so is YJ, that show only increased their popularity so I think the show will do well but we'll see. They also announced a Stargirl series coming as well besides Titans, Swamp Thing, Doom Patrol and the Harley Quinn series.Personally, I hope they do a Spectre series would be beyond awesome.

What I like about AM especially well one of many things is James Wan will get a lot of attention for something outside of horror, and I think his is great for the future of MK movie.

I thought the Titan trailer look bad. They all look bad. And to hell with people harassing the actress playing Starfire. My issue was she looked like a middle age prostitute. But in no way should you shit on the Actor/Actress, go after the producer, designers, and casting director for making that decision. I did't agree how Jake Lloyd got harassed for his role in PM, I dont agree how the Girl from the Last Jedi got harassed, and sure don't agree harassing the actress playing Starfire.

I will agree with someone said earlier critics did make BvS and SS sound worse then it actually was. It wasn't my ideal movie direction but it wasn't Trolls 2.

I have much the same thoughts. I would like to see Young Justice, but not sure I would sub to a entire service for that, and I'm not super interested in watching a ton of old stuff form 20 years ago.. I probably own most of it already anyway.

It really depends. If they release it like Netflix, all in a single go. I'[ll probably sub while I watch it all and possibly a while after while I check out the other content, then unsub. If it is released 1 episode a week, I'll probably just download it form the net.

Superhero movies above all else should be fun
Not sure I agree with that. Movies and stories in general need to be entertaining. Snatch is a Gangster film that is "fun". American Gangster is a gangster film that is not fun, but still entertaining and very good imo. So all a hero film needs to be is entertaining, it doesn't need to be fun at all.

Personally, despite the recent problematic WB films.. I would much rather stuff like Logan that is ultra-violent and adult and dark, than a bubble gum children's cartoon done in live action like many of the Disney films.

That is why I am interested in the new X-Men films. I mean New Mutants is basically a horror film, Logan is arguably (by me at least) one of it not the best comic soup film of the modern era and while Apocalypse had problems it still had adult themes, blood and brutal murders, and lets not forget Deadpool (at least 1 anyway). That is all good. I actually think the X-Men films are the most interesting films for adult comic readers at this time.

I absolutely hate the modern "bloodless violence" that is a big part of hollywood.. like Fast and Furious or the Disney Marvel films. I actually think the PG rating is a big part of why kids get so desensitised to violence. I mean in Thor 3 they stab people left and right, cut limbs off and there is no blood. I hate that shit. I mean you may gte a bleeding lip or something or some blue blood now and then but it is fuckign pathetic.

edit - reading that back it came off a little harsher.. I do like some of the Disney movies.. but I much prefer darker stuff.

My entire decision on whether or not I get the streaming service is if the Swamp Thing trailer
Doom Patrol for me. The Grant Morison run of Doom Patrol is one of the best runs in comic history. I can't even begin to imagine what a show done well, taking ques from that comic, would lead to.

Warning this is a "extended footage" thing.. not really a trailer... so at 6mins there is a lot of stuff you may wish to save for the cinema...

This looks really good. Great trailer... but we have been burned before. Remember how amazing the Phantom Menace trailer was? I'm cautiously optimistic and I admit I got the chills with the hero line and the original suit shot at the end. I can't believe an entire generation is going to think Aquaman is the "cool one" : )

Meh. Aquaman is hitting the right marks visually, but good special effects are not enough. You also have to have a good story and decent acting. No offense to any fans here, but Jason Momoa and his dye-job friend are not good actors; they're just reading lines and making facial expressions, with no depth at all. The AM trailer didn't make me care in the slightest about them or interested to see what happens to them. The plot also seems cookie cutter as hell. Pass.

Shazam looks like it could be decent. The young kid playing Billy Batson showed better acting than anything Momoa did. But the muscle suit looks corny and all the Shazam scenes played like a late-night comedy show skit; that's not going to carry a whole movie. But there's still room for depth if the villain turns out to be good and the characters show some growth. Could be fun to watch.

I'll give Titans a shot, can't be worse than Agent Carter, AOS and Iron Fist honestly...Plus Emergency Awesome who has a great rep and knows his shit, already explained that the show is a better and different than everyone thinks from the first initial trailer. Sure, Starfire looks like a hooker and horrible casting choice, costume etc but everyone else looks fine honestly and I want to see how it plays out. Also, two other comic shows nobody talks about well Krypton is awesome based off Superman mythos and Preacher is just fucking cool. Why these shows aren't talked about more IDK, but I'd watch either any day over any Marvel show that people brag about out there.

AM looks better than I thought initially, but I'm really excited for Shazam and Flash movie a lot more.

Oh and gotta love that Harley Quinn trailer talking shit about Deadpool and joking about DC themselves. lol
