Tekken 7 General Discussion Thread - OP Updated With All Tekken Info

I was specifically referring to this: http://shoryuken.com/2018/04/16/tekken-7s-performance-issues-on-pc-are-due-to-drm-software/

Not sure what came of that, but seems to run really well for me. I do love my short load times. I did have to fiddle with stuff to deal with the Kuma issue. I've never played online, so I haven't had to deal with any second system issues yet. CPU is driving me a little crazy though.

So far it feels like an odd mix of some of the most blatant input reading, I've seen and flat being stupid about other things. Like having zero awareness of projectiles at all (playing Geese btw) and eating 100% of them, or letting you armor constantly because it always wants to counter attack with input reads.

I've been playing it all week, and enjoying myself so far. I really like having a 3D game in the mix, and it's kind of the only thing on the menu right now until SC6 and DOA6 roll around - both of which I'm anxious for. Part of me wonders if I would be better off preping for DOA6 with more DOA5, but I'm betting my original FG Bae Pai Chan won't be in. I'm finally enjoying Tekken, so I probably just roll with it for a little while.
I've never come across any issues like this. Granted that I've only played with a few people and a handful of hours in ranked and player match and I've only played against online Akuma on PS4.

Treasure battle is decent for practicing combos and learning how to adjust your combos on the fly so you get a good wallsplat that enables you to finish with a heavy damage low-to-the-ground attack for the unscaled 60%. Also good for learning how to hit confirm counterhit launchers. CPU will try to interrupt you with fast attacks as soon as you input something so you get lots of counterhits and for this reason, figuring out the exact range of your character's moves should be done in practice mode.

Even if you don't stick with the game once something else drops your left hand execution will hella improve and it's going to crack you up seeing some people complain about NRS game command throw inputs and what not. I think Tekken specific skill has plenty of carry over to Soul Calibur.

It's all so very confusing.
I have both versions as well, and greatly prefer PC. Faster load times, the game as a whole feels "crisper" for lack of a better way to explain it.

It also looks better on PC. I'm running nothing at all special, all older stuff. I5 4790k - gtx970 - 8 gigs (I know, I know, my ram is bottlenecking my 970) and I run the game maxed out across the board and the frame rate sticks at 60 like a rock.

Well, the PS4 version just went 60% for an E3 themed excuse sale, so got that version too.

After I spend a couple more days button smooshing, and getting some feel for it, I could probably use a NA living volunteer to play for 30min or so and toss a few pointers my way. If someone out there is up for that over the weekend.

I've continued playing, and switched over to Lili. When I got the game I was looking hard at Master Raven, then to Miguel, over to Geese. I'd like to learn them all, but think I belong with Lili. Anyway, not why I'm posting.

...Warning -Topic hopping ahead:
1) PC vs PS4
I got the PS4 version on sale, which is handy in the sense that it's more convenient to the living room and I happen to have another PS4 in the bedroom I can wind down with, so it's wherever I want to be. It's also the only fighter I feel comfortable using a DS4 with, so it's nice to not deal with cords for once and give my Hori pads a break.

I can't really tell the difference between the two input wise, but the load times are much better on PC, and it generally feels more ideal. The load time advantage seemed less obvious playing online, probably because I'm on and SSD and there is no guarantee others are too. Or the Online loading just takes forever.

I also feel like I was finding more people, quicker on PC, at least initially. It's hard to say if that is a trend or happened to just work out that way.

2) CPU
I spent all my time playing the CPU up until last night. I had gotten the immediate feeling that the CPU for Tekken poses a greater than average risk of training you stupid than most fighters. I'm still feeling that is true. It can "feel ok", but it's very specific about some of what it is doing. It constantly tries to input read basic attacks and counter with faster normals. The good part of that is it shows you what your slow normals are. The bad part is that it's just about the only thing it does. It's so reliable that it also has the side effect of training you that respect doesn't exist.

It doesn't try to play safe at all, so if you just block and counter it's more vulnerable than the average person I met. I think it may even try to counter when it doesn't have the frames and you end up landing a lot of slower moves and walk away thinking you are more at advantage than you really are. I now keep throwing out this slow launcher that the CPU liked to take and nobody ever fell for it. They never punished me for it, which was weird, but I shouldn't have been doing it at all.

It also goes all deer in headlights over certain moves. I don't know what you call them, but they are the hard hits that knock down and kind of sparkle when you do them. If you can get enough room to use them, the even the high level CPU will just eat every one of them. (I'm finding I do to, so I may need an education there of some kind). They will also just eat projectiles at a near 100% rate, so if you have one of the few characters with those then you can just cheese the CPU out.

It's just weird in its absolutes in that it has things it will never let you get away with, while always letting you get away with others. Playing CPU is always different, and probably never a good idea. I don't know if Tekken CPU is worse for you than other CPU's, but it does feel different in what it is teaching you compared to some others.

3) Getting hit
So I got hit a bunch last night. Some of it I get why. There is lots of time between hits which makes me feel like it's my turn. Sometimes I sneak in some gap and get a 1,2 strike, but mostly end up embracing the combo string. I'm definitely getting out spaced and baited by better players, but I also feel like I'm getting blown up by something I don't get. The HKD style moves seem to work on be better than I would be inclined to think they would. Other players seem to get hit by them more too. They don't seem especially fast but act like they override other moves or something. I know there are armor moves that power through highs and mids, but this is something else. Is there anything special going on there?

Alright, I'm done now.

**and how do you fight King? I feel like I'm playing some kind of paper, rock, scissors game but I don't know the rules. One guy just wanted to throw so I could just press lots of buttons, but if someone is smart enough to only go on throwing sprees after they see you are confused, then that's a problem mashing doesn't solve.

Training mode is your best friend. Record your matches. Find what strings you are having trouble with and find the answer.

As for king he is weak to ssr. Again you will have to learn how to break his throws. He has alot that are 2 breaks. If a king player runs at you and throws it a good chance it will be s shining wizard ( the grab where he runs up and knees you in the face) this is a 1+2 break. Again record your match find what is troubling you and find the answer.

Tekken is a game that takes alot of time and training to become good at. Make your goal to learn and not to win. When it all starts coming together it is one of the most rewarding games out there

this will help with the throws

Dude is a fucking grappler, and some of them are already a mixup. I think I know a way to deal against him.

I always go for the stronger grapple break since most dont even know the other combinations, you do not want the death cradle happening to you lol.
It's definitely happening to me. I don't really understand how something like that can exist, or why Paul can punch you for 50%. I feel like that kind of damage should be earned by something more substantial. I guess the move is technically a sequence and has break points, so whatever, but 75%ish damage seems shocking for anything to do that.

Damage seems kind of high across the board, which is why I guess a lot of things are 3 out of 5.

So far my Lili is trash, but I made sure she looks good. #CustomizationTimeVortex

Thats the reason movement and match up knowledge is so imporrant

Well getting hit by Paul for that much damage means you are pressing buttons when you shouldnt or you are using the wrong moves, The Deathfist is weak to sidestep so you can full combo punish that.
Ah you are using Lili, she has a really good sidestep so yeah like @NaCl man said movement is the key in a lot of these situations.

I don't know that I've ever seen it used. I just find if philosophically weird, if you will, that something like that exists. I don't what the point of such a thing is, or who it's serving.

I do feel a little better with side movement after last night. Got steam rolled by a Paul for a bit and did some checking. I guess there were sidestep and gap punish options in there depending on what route was used. Have to see if I remember next time. The old memory ain't great that way, but the options got me thinking a little.

same with 1 hit kos. Unusable but they are there.

For anybody who saw CEO, Eddy mains REJOICE! There is hope for us :)
And Jeondding leveled up as an Eddy main, which ultimately helped him win the previous tourney.

Still, I'm having a hard time doing the KD, which I think would be crucial of getting leveled up in this game, if you want to be safe AF.

SAME! And thats his best technique to make opponents whiff. But watching Jeondding level up is inspiration to level up my Eddy :)

You should hit him an eye for his previous matches. You might find other stuff that you never hoped that you would during your labbing and such.

I played with a very good Tekken player here in Greece (Heihachi, Dragunov D.Jin and Jin). He made me realize my mistakes there. After I fought him, I found that I had to stop myself from doing the UNSAFE moves (those that have huge recovery frames), which ultimately punish me. This is what happened to Jeondding when he did anything random.

Oh ive seen alot of Jeondding's progress. I gotta figure out those unsafe moves and apply it to my offense. Ive noticed his WS4 (While Standing) is GREAT to punish low attacks on Block. I did take mental note of that cuz he was doing it alot during CEO ;)

Interesting. I gotta lab this. You might want to use the WR13/WR14 for the mixup. The WR3 is pretty slow, so I'd advice doing the WR14. While in RLX, it's better to roll back to stay away from their attack radius. When in RLX, they expect you to do any low attack and a spring attack to try punishing you.

BTW, to my surprise, Dragunov's RA and Eddy's RD get whiffed each other. This happened with me and my homie, and I didn't know about this, and thus we were in pausing awe for a moment. I gotta reproduce this to show you, if that can happen during training. lol

On pc, Tekken bot prime is pretty handy for exploring your frames. Probably not news or helpful for ps4 players. Steam sale is still on I think. Game is on discount.
