Frame-Boy: Injustice 2 Extended Frame Data App

Hi everybody! For a bit more than half a year, I've been working on a free frame data app for Injustice 2. Its main difference from other apps is that it gives more information on combos than it is given in game itself. For instance, you can see what is the move type of each combo hit. And a total damage given by a particular combo.

BTW, each move has a note mentioning the actual patch it was verified for. So if I will be late on an update, you can easily check the patch notes and know what moves are still up-to-date for your favorite character.

There are more features you might like, check a few out in the screenshot below!

It also features table mode when you can compare multiple moves by different values. You can check out some more screenshots on the app store page.

The application is currently available for PCs via Windows 10 Store.

If there is need for such an app on iOS/Android, I will make it for mobile devices as well.

Any community feedback is very appreciated. If you don’t have Windows 10 but you do want this app for your phone, please let me know, so I will be motivated to work.

P.S. A set of characters does not include DLC characters, as unfortunately I do not have the DLC at this time. However if my app will find its users and I get some feedback, I will go for DLCs and will add them to the roster.

P.P.S. I believe that I didn't violate Rule #16 of the TYM. As this is not an advertisement of other site and it is not off-topic.

Nah, you are good, this kind of 'advertising' is fine. You can find topics from other devs (like the Omen of Sorrow people) talking about their games and projects they are doing. Front paging this, let me know if I made any bad changes

I'm a bit away from the PC, so I'd appreciate the Android type App there. If you could, could you do this for the other games, as well?

Android/iOS app would be fantastic for this. I will be downloading, though.

looks cool. no way am I installing windows store though to try it. That data collection and advertising window can go get fucked. Can't you just put it on dropbox or a google drive or something?

Retired forever; don’t ask for games.
Sounds neat. Please sure to make one for iOS and Android because sometimes frame data checks are important

@HellblazerHawkman Everything looks fine, thank you!

@Tanno I am planning to add Mortal Kombat 11 (and maybe MKX). As far as I am dedicated to NetherRealm games and MK especially. For other games feel free to mention one here, so I will know about it and act correspondingly.

@Jynks Thank you for the feedback. Unfortunately this is not a regular executable. It is a newish Microsoft app which can potentially run on Xbox One and HoloLens (don't have any of those to check and to make app available in stores for them). So I just can't copy it as a regular .exe file. It is an app package which can be installed on Win 10 only (kind of successor of Metro interface for Win 8).

@THTB @Crusty Thank you for your feedback. I will wait for some time for more feedback and maybe change my plans from adding DLC characters to developing app for iOS/Android.

I will leave my seal on you!
Looks nice, I would like to have an Android/IOS App of these though, but still nice nonetheless.

I'll mash out of +30 I know no fear
We have been needing an updated frame data app for a long time. Thank you for putting in the work.

Android/IOS versions would be amazing

Guys, thank you a lot for your feedback. It motivates me a lot!!
Really, thank you.

@NothingPersonal
Haha, I found myself googling this whole boi meme :)

Need this for iOS
iOS / Android pls

According to the latest feedback I see that iOS/Android application is really needed, so this will affect my plans indeed. I am currently thinking to postpone adding DLC characters and to start development of mobile version instead.

Great update man, I tell my friends about this when we play and they have questions regarding frame data if they want more info more than the games pause menu.

I think the phone is needed for sure. I sometimes wanna check frame data between matches in a ranked set and my pc gets turned on like once every 3 months.

@MKF30 Nice! I believe they'll enjoy :)

@Thrash Zoo Thank you for the feedback! I actually see now that mobile version is more important than DLC characters.

@fireborg Your request is noted, thank you :)

Jump+hit itself is punishable. But if you land it on a blocking opponent, then you will have an opportunity to cancel to any combo or special which can be safe itself. AFAIK there will be no exploitable gap for punishment in such a case. If your opponent will dodge your jump hit, then I believe he/she can punish you.

I might not be fully correct because I cannot test this right now.

Please let me know if you understood my answer, or I can try to bring in more details.

I think is about right, maybe just got confused from one training session where someone told me is not like Mk that you can follow up after jumping normal into combo

Thanks

M not sure if this is the right thread, but only threads on FD are app related. I basically have a couple fd questions:

Im bit tired so please do apoligize if something sounds bit stupid

So what really is 60 Fps?

So a second consits of 100 hundredths, right? And the game runs at 60fps

100 / 60 = 1.6 so 1 frame is effectivly 1'6 hundredths of a second, right?

Example you get a 60 frame advantage, so you have 1 second to followup?

Opponent did something that is -60, i have a second to react and punish?

I got a feeling it does not add up, for example +21 frame advatage seems almost like a second of time to me

So really just how quick your reactions got to be and how much time a frame advantage gives you?

To wrap up this confused post about my fd confusion, in short distance it is obvious what is safe, unsafe, punisahble, but can also anyone advice what the FD got to be to able punish whiffs at medium or long range?

Thanks boyzz ( and girls? ;)

@fireborg Sorry for the late answer. I tried to answer your questions below.

So what really is 60 Fps?

So a second consits of 100 hundredths, right? And the game runs at 60fps

100 / 60 = 1.6 so 1 frame is effectivly 1'6 hundredths of a second, right?
You are correct, however it is more common to use milliseconds.
So 1 second = 1000 milliseconds = 60 frames.
Therefore 1 frame = 16 milliseconds (actually the value is closer to 17 milliseconds).

It is more useful to use milliseconds because ping in online play is also measured in milliseconds.

Example you get a 60 frame advantage, so you have 1 second to followup?

Opponent did something that is -60, i have a second to react and punish?

Yes and no. If opponent's move has -60 block advantage and you successfully blocked it, that means that you have 1 second to react, start your move and punish. Each move has a startup phase. In that phase no damage can be given. So if you want to use a move with 30 frames startup (half a second), that will also count. And you will have only another half a second left to react.

I got a feeling it does not add up, for example +21 frame advatage seems almost like a second of time to me
When you play this game, you react much faster than in real life, so I think this is a common feeling :)

So really just how quick your reactions got to be and how much time a frame advantage gives you?
Not actually, you should pick your punish move wisely. Moves with shortest startup usually also deal less damage. However there are many variables you should consider: startup, move type, damage, hit box, ability to continue with a juggle combo and some more. But if we talk about punishment, my personal opinion is to consider startup at first.

To wrap up this confused post about my fd confusion, in short distance it is obvious what is safe, unsafe, punisahble, but can also anyone advice what the FD got to e to able punish whiffs at medium or long range?
It is easier to answer questions one by one, so if you still have some not answered, please let me know.
