What's new

Why is Dr Fate top 3 now?

Counterpoke with armoured DB2 at all times.
Yeah I just tried some recently, labbing. Seems like a good way to create some pressure and get some free combo without bar (even though he builds meter like crazy). My only problem is the ankh is most useful with trait, which is not always available... but i guess thats the whole i idea, if they get close enough whip it out, send them full screen, keep them away, and by the time they get back or you want to go in you have trait again.
Putting trait out depends on certain matchups I feel. Sometimes it's better to cash it out for zoning and in other times you might feel better doing it in neutral in preparation for a rushdown character in order to even out the up close game.

Like Superman can punish DB2 but not in trait I believe. It's -8 regular and something like -2 in trait I thought.

No i zone against him and apply pressure a bit if i catch him out of position and have red ankhs. A few things i do. 1. In neutral dont ever mb fireballs unless they are guaranteed to block them (fter knockdown) and you can get two yellows on him... 2. 3/4 screen you can outpace him, if you whiff ur ok to block air lasers. And punish If you hit summon an ankh eventually you can get momentum and mux in slowballs and stuff 3. Use 11 to counter forward 23 breath pressure as opposed to down1 more often its fast enough to interrupt and its plus 2. Better range 4. Dont be afraid to cancel strings into ex db2 for extra space abd frames. Cant prevent pressure. 5.in the corner vs supes you can end combos in 113 (if you space it) and mb ball he cant wakeup hes trapped. I think its even at worst for fate a lot of fates lose cool and get outzoned

Positive Poster!
1. No losing matchups
2. Low risk high reward
3. Superior damage
4. Plays his own game in every matchup (even 5-5s need to get in on him to get anything going)

...more deadly than the dawn.
I don't feel like he loses to Superman. MB orb stops a lot of grounded pressure and Fate's AA's are pretty great.

Only thing Superman has to "outzone" Fate is air lasers. I saw something in the Fate forum the other day about the MB vs. not MB being a "mindgame", but that's a pretty reactable difference...

I only use it at closer ranges where I might do an air dash. Bait out a B2, punish with air laser. But you're right it's kinda of high risk medium reward, and Fate can save Ankhs for that specific situation.

There it is...
B2 -> B2 is a true blockstring btw and will never get counterpoked correctly
Worst part is if you have a low poke. It's basically a block infinite against flash lol. Stupid floaty feet.

That's probably one of the most stupid and prevalent matchup considerations that should never have been in the game. It's like the female hitbox of this game.

The other problem with it is just whiffing it in the neutral trying to fish for an anti air, which has like 0 consequences due to it's active frames and deceiving recovery. I think I mentioned in this thread that the best part about Fate isn't even his zoning, it's his normals and close range specials. F2 and B2 are amazing normals, and DB2 is a super versatile special. Wakeup, get-off me tool, combo starter with trait, safe ender, combo ender. His zoning is just strong to me, not overbearing, particularly after MB orb nerf. Not easy to get past but far from impossible

I don't find I ever have a problem with any other anti-air in the neutral in the game aside from maybe Starfire's B2 but that's for the fact that she takes a step back, making it harder to capitalise on unless you're super ready for it
