The World Has No More Room For Monsters: Swamp Thing General Discussion

Thanksgiving corner game, going ham and stuffing
Okay imma go over this. Some of it is correct and some is just blatantly wrong.

Terrible mobility is 100% true. He's a slow dude but that's his design

Slow buttons again, that's his design we've learned to live with that.

Bad jumps is just incorrect. His jump arch is floaty, yes, but J2 is one of the best jump ins in the game and allows him to get a lot off of jumping over stuff at certain ranges. (You end up jumping further away for jump ins as swamp thing because of how huge j2 is, this makes AAing him hard if used correctly)

BF3 not going under most projectiles is just a gigantic lie. It goes under basically all of them. If you're getting tagged, you need to clean up how you use this tool because it does exactly what it's supposed to.

It's super easy to get trait out when F23/B23 xx 4 is safe. And when you actually get the hit, you get tons of ways to set it up.

Swamp Thing having "no particular strength" is a lie. He's got some of the best neutral in the game, very strong mixup game from D2 tick throws, strong staggers in B2, and B22. B223 has a pokeable gap but B22 xx BF3 has no pokeable gap so that's a 50/50. Essentially youre playing heavy neutral, and making them respect F2 range. When they respect that you can do stuff like dash up command grab. Also log at a distance is so strong, absurdly plus, great for Oki and for counter zoning.
I agree 100% with all of this. One of his strengths that I see is whiff punishing. With Crow, your optimal whiff punish with F2 isn't going to net you much unless you're in the corner. Swampy has a huge range to capitalize on and 16 frames for a F2 is honestly pretty good.

I came to report that the dream of F23-4, 3 is not dead lol. I've been catching people with it at max range left and right. Once they're conditioned, most try for a MB B3. Swampy's walk back speed is actually really good, enough to make even Starfire's whiff for a punish.

In general, F23 trait and a walk back sets up an opportunity for the opponent to hang themselves. If they jump, you get a free combo with db2. If they come in, they have to be very mindful of their gaps as he can expose gaps that few others can. I played a Supergirl yesterday who became conditioned to B12-breath and I was able to armor the gap for a combo to the corner.

I think this is a character that is meant to be played patiently and defensively. If your anti airs are on point, he can be difficult to approach, and even moreso with trait.

The Superman MU still sucks though lol.

How’s everyone feeling about swampy now? I personally think he’s way better. There aren’t nearly as many machtups I feel the need to pick a different character. He just feels better in general.

I think he is good now, I don't think he needs anymore buffs to be honest. I'm loving it

Your Mediocrity Is Killing Me
I've decided I'm going to pick up Swampy as just a fun character on ranked, I was wondering if anyone had any pointers for starting off?

So I've plbeen playing swamp thing for about 2 weeks now and he's a blast. He's doesn't need mobility when he has amazing neutral control.

Low log is honestly broken it makes them scared to walk back and if they block you're at advantage so who needs mobility when you force them to stay stationary.

Now that force them to hold down you can make your way in with f2.

His f2 mix is fuzzyable but no one is gonna block it everytime and you're safe anyways so...
It's just as good as atrocitous f2 mix, possibly even better.

And if they jump you have a great anti air with s1 and they're at the perfect AA s1 range.

Now that you have a chance if hitting them with a 50/50 you get a knockdown into tick throws and 50/50 shenanigans.

This character is great. He just has some losing MUs, but guess what? Every character does (well maybe not firestorm)

Everything you just said is generally agreed upon and known.
