To be honest, I came here to post shit about Dragon's character choices spiced with (now very tired) joke along the lines of "Amount of events Dragon wins is inversely proportional to NRS game balance", but in a sense you are right - the game starts at the character select screen, and that's a part of being good at it.

Clearly Sonicfox would body him in a FT10 if the set determined the “best player in NRS” imho. You can’t throw all his feats out the window because of a few bad tournaments.

Dragon won Evo. Evo is the world championship. Ergo Dragon is the world champion until next Evo.

As simple as that. Sonic is not "the champion" now. Will have his chance next year. It's unfair to take away from Dragon what he earned just because of Sonic's previous accomplishments.

To talk about who is "the best" you have to make clear the criteria of comparison. If people want to compare quality of players without taking into account some of the most important titles of the tournaments that are designed to measure the quality of players...it's ok. Then establish your criteria of comparison.

Nobody denies Sonic's winnings resume and that he is one of the best players in the nrs scene and the most consistent overall in terms of results. But at the moment, Dragon, as Evo champion, is the Injustice 2 world champion.

About the question in the op, a FT10 would be nice, but it definitely would NOT "settle the score of who the better player is" as op says. If all this debate has started because of Sonic's previous consistency, you can't end it with one set. The logic in that is pretty dumb.

Very true, add that Dragon won E-League as well, proving this point even further.

It would be fun if they both put their prize money won from IPS/E-league on the line , like a biggest moneymatch of all time. That shit would be legit.

Dragon will remain the champion, no matter how much salt SF throws at him. Dragon got the title at EVO and if that wasnt enough he cemented it at E-league. Sonic has a long road ahead of him, winning this one set can be considered a small step, but ultimately wont be deciding factor.

I def agree with Sonic here, He acknowledged Dragon is the champion and I think the best is allowed to lose tournaments yeah they were big ones but it happens, he won like 3 evos in a row and places/wins multiple games like cmon lol. Give the man respect or he's just going to come back stronger and start winning everything again.

Uncle JBeezY will say this....this is what the scene needs. Fighting games are COMPETITIVE! So why not have this debate put to rest like REAL gamers do and go against each other.

BUT I will suggest....there needs to be something on the line other than bragging rights. At the end of the day, its just an exhibition match which is unofficial with no title on the line.

The only thing that can sweeten the pot is money. LOTS OF IT! Go big or go home! Each have won an incredible amount, so why not put it on the line to make you wanna win even more! I'm all for this, but of course, my money is on @SonicFox5000

And PL won has as many EVO medals as SonicFox, he got them all in a row back in MK9, so did that make him the better MKX player like he said it did? Sonic has won zero EVO's for I2, this is a new game, saying he's the champ of this game because he won past games is so dumb

A first to ten it's not enough. If we want to see who is the best it has to be on tournament. Daigo beat Infiltration in a ft10 but still got mopped at EVO 2012 and lost convincingly at EVO 2013 for infiltration again. Tournaments are what matters, not exhibition, it would be a cool, quote on quote, grudge match though lol.

But my opinion on this is that Sonic Fox is not our best player right NOW, but overall he is. It's like Messi, being the best it's not a matter of staying the best but being at a big picture. But Dragon didn't throw the biggest tournament of his life to play MvCi, so he didn't go out at groups and ended up winning the whole thing. He deserves every credit for his work, dedication and intelligence and TODAY he is our best player, our crown jewel. If Sonic Fox wants to be this man again - like he was in MKX since Defend The North when after that he barely lost any majors - he has to win those big tournaments where the competition it is at it's strongest. People expect this from him, hell I expect this from him he is my favorite player in the world tbh I tune in to games I don't play or like just to watch him play. So I want to see this Sonic Fox back, but unfortunately it is not the case now, maybe someday I can say that once more.

If it was just Evo I'd get the argument that Sonic is better, but it's not. Sonic didn't even make top 4 in Eleague. Dragon is better because he has better results, simple as that. FT10 would be hype as hell too but it's also not how the game is played in tourney.

The confusion to me is that I always believed that the IPS finals was to determine who is that Injustice Champion besides Evo. I don't get how Eleague is more important then IPS?

Are video games the kind of sport where a champion can be determined based on the single performance at a major qualifying tournament or is it more like tennis where there's ranking points? How do online tournament series factor in?

Well, if objective results in high level tournaments aren't the deciding factor, then I'll join SonicFox in saying that I'm the best.

If anyone wants to dispute that based on the outcome of matches, then I'll remind them that the people I'm fighting against are using broken characters, so those don't count.

Everyone in the Fgc treats evo like the nfl treats the Super Bowl simple as that . U can go flawless on the play offs and if u choke in the Super Bowl you will never be remembered as much as a person with a super bowl ring same concept

That's beyond just a concept though. You're talking about a sport that has a clear competitive league system in place where divisional teams compete and earn playoff positions until elimination, culminating in the super bowl.

so did this actually go down? i was at NEC and dont remember seeing this. maybe it happened but i was bouncing between a billion games so maybe i missed it? if it didnt that was incredibly whack

We've been through this, Nobody cares about ft10 unless there is beef involved or something serious at stake (a lot of money, wager..,etc). Otherwise it wont matter, regardless of the result, it just gonna get shrugged off as a "meh, it's just an exhibition. who cares?"
