so, how do i play MU with black manta, the lasso feels kinda opressive trying to get in, and alternating between the b2 and bf1 is really annoying to deal with, what can i do as manta to deal with her?

The shark attack move punishes grounded shield toss at any range. Once you shut down this option you can attempt to outspace ia shield toss and punish it with air shark attack. Once you've shut this option down she'll be forced to walk forward and then you can bully her with you strong normals. It's pretty much a battle of spacing.

This is a patience and footsie contest. Harass and capitalize when the player gets impatient. Punish shield shield toss with harpoon or teleport. You outrange us and if you mix missiles you may catch her off guard

shark attack works too i guess. for punishing shield.

General question - Are there certain times where you can get crossed up, but the game doesn't say it at the top of the screen?
I've held back on moves like Canary Drop, Super Girl's f3, Latern's f3, etc. and been hit by them, but the screen doesn't say "cross-up". I'm confused.

Canary's kneedrop can cross up or not depending on the user's intention.
Supergirl's F3 ditto.
GL's F3 too but I don't know whether it's random or it depends on the user.

Edit:

looks like it also depends on the user

Yes, the indicator message is not 100% trust worthy.

What do you do after a MB bf3? You are in +2 but at a distance where your fast or relatively fast normals won't reach the opponent. B2 is 21-22 frame so that's not a good offensive option either if they try to attack you. Doing another bf3 can be good I guess because it's 8 frames only but the reward is little if it hits and if they block it you might get punished unless you MB it again.

You don't really get anything guaranteed. You just have a priority to land a hit if you know the opponent is going to press a button. I usually do shield toss if I expect the opponent is going to jump (shield toss is faster than bf3 at that range), or another MB bf3 if I'm trying to chip out and I have meter.

I feel like the point isn't so much to pay to be plus, but to pay to be safe.

Interesting side note, you can MB bash on block confirm. If you are slow it can create large gaps that can get blown up, but if you are on point and earned some respect, you can try and ration your meter a little.

It's more of a lab trick for me and not something tend to really do in match, but I have a little side switch gimmick I've used. I'll toss out a d2 and cancel into bash. If they get hit, she slides under them. If they block, MB to stay safe.

D2 xx lasso grab from range on block is the best gimmick in the game. Lasso grab is just slow enough for the opponent to think he can move after blocking the d2.

Can you give me some really effective use of the parry? I noticed in my own gameplay that I hardly ever use it other than parrying some predictable projectiles and also once I was against a Joker and he came charging at me so i parried his single strike and he ate a big punish. That was pretty cool.
I also saw Akro using it against Firestorm, when expecting him to wake up with Fusion Charge.
I never played a character with parry before so maybe you could help me with using it effectively.

She can use it against interactables, no? That's a pretty good use

It's a random character specific thing, but it can be used against Harley's trait.

A more general use of it is on your opponent's wakeup. It's not always a good idea (don't use it against superman), but if you bait wakeup you can punish without blocking. You don't eat the chip and you get the damage buff. In the case of Firestorm he will pass through you. Lets you decide which side to put him on if he torpedos. A block will let you put him in front, and a parry often gets him to side switch. (it's kind of hard to really think and put into practice though.)

Some gaps are large enough to sneak one into. Those you can probably just poke out of which lets her get her full combo damage anyway. In this case, you would just be trying to squeeze one in to get the buff. I think her own 223 is an example where you can get one between the 2 and 3.

I never got into the habit, but there is room to throw one out from time to time when it's your opponent's turn as a read; similar to MB a F or B3. It's not playing it safe at all, but if you are in their head, and want to give them something else to worry about...

Oh, and for those slow projectile guys like SZ, don't apologize for getting a life lead and running away. Make them come to you and do dumb things.

Managed to play against a Harley for the first time as WoWo....dammit that matchup seems to be hard af. Sure I never really labbed her so i don't know her frame data but her zoning is annoying. I can't jump because even in the air my foot is caught by her gunshots so I can only walk her down. Her hyenas are parryable indeed though.
I was kinda spoiled by Supergirl when it came to counterzoning because she had all the tools while as WoWo I had to struggle more but it is an enjoyable process in some weird masochistic way. When I win with WoWo I had much more satisfaction. I just have to learn not to panic and mess up e.g. the parry input sometimes because of nervousness.

Edit: Also the range on Harley's b3, f3 is brutal.

You can parry everything she does. Parrying B3 and F3 is also very satisfying and they're slow enough for you to do it.

BTW did you just run into Mustard's Raiden on ranked?

I love the Parry because it is a WW specific character bit from the comics. I find it very useful when life is low versus people like Batman, Dr Fate, Superman, and Captain Cold because of their annoying projectiles.

During regular gameplay I find it useful versus Red Hood when he is lunge happy (you csn stop him from the extra hits of the meter burn).

I am scrub af and still trying to play without being so emo and in my journey I have learned that identifying opponent patterns will enable you to utilize parry a lot more and profit.
