EMPEROR PRYCE

WAR SEASON "THE WEAK EXPOSED!"
Even if it was/is about the money, does it matter? For one that's his career, for two he's experienced in commentating professionally and HAS been studying injustice and our community. We don't know exactly but you can assume he was offered the position and simply took it maybe that or he's contracted ever since SFV Eleague. Regardless, it's beyond our control and the constant complaints behind these commentators makes our community seem entitled and unwelcoming.

I personally thought Zhi did any amazing job today.

It's silly to me that people are complaining that ELEAGUE was apparently too broke to hire their favorite commentator. Clearly they made decisions for their own reasons, and chose people they felt comfortable with, and deemed a fit business-wise for these particular dates.

I didn't say they were broke I said they didn't see it as a necessary expense it's not because you have a lot of money that you're going to throw it down the drain but you showing that they flew him in from Asia was a valid point that made me shut up don't twist my words because I didn't twist yours

I'm glad they hired mostly good commentators instead of just gathering the NRS commentators. Unfortunate that K&M won't be casting, but no Aquaman either, so that evens out. Hopefully Zhi can't make it because he's having his larynx removed.

Whoawhoawhoawhoa... Street Fighter V's EVO Top 8 debut on television last year was hella bigger. Let's not overstate NRS' satellite position in the greater FGC.
MKX's Chasing the Cup on the CW network overshadowed SFV's EVO Top 8 last year in ratings which more people watched that, not so much "hella bigger".

I should have been a bit clearer. I wasn't referring to actual size or ratings, but historical significance. Perhaps I misunderstood. That said, didn't SFV have something very similar running on... Was it TBS? TNT? Somesuch.

To be clear, I am not knighting for SFV, nor do I even play it. I just can't see some Western-aired broadcast of a largely Western game being more significant than the world's most popular fighting game franchise ushering the entirety of the FGC into the wide world of Western sport broadcasting.

Oops, I was talking about EVO 2015, not last year. I've spent a lot of time in the hospital over the last couple years, so my recollection of events is not always chronologically sound.

SF is indeed an iconic franchise, but MK is the most known and popular fighting franchise. Also MKX was the first to make it to ESL in addition to beat SFV's EVO Top 8 in ratings, and now IJ2 is the first fighting game to make it E-League, and it also got to ESPN. So yea, NRS/WB had already a much bigger impact with both MK and IJ then what Capcom did with SF.

Soz, late edit. I was thinking of 2015.

You make sound points I had not considered. But MK the most well known and popular franchise? Franchise? Maybe in the West (+Russia). Globally? I won't say you're wrong, but I am pure skepticism on that point.

I'm very skeptical on SF being more known globally. I've met people who never even heard of SF but they did hear about MK.

I won't take this argument for too long, but like I said, I'm very skeptical regarding SF, and very well certain that MK is the most known, popular and impactful fighting game franchise. I will leave it at that.

No argument to be had, good sir. Just friendly exchange of perspectives on a messageboard. You very well could be correct. Things have changed a lot in the last few years, and I haven't really paid close enough attention. I would be interested to see numbers, but wouldn't even know where to start looking. XD

Anecdotally, every offline event I've ever experienced or heard of (that wasn't catering to a specific game, of course) MK entrants are absolutely dwarfed by SF, no matter the iteration. Same for cabinets at arcades. Those, however, are only really considering the more hardcore FGC, not general audience. In general, I'm thinking its more likely that you're correct. NRS does have WB money, afterall.

There so many misinformation here.

SF was the first to make it to Eleague not INJ.
Chasing the cup had bigger numbers but it was also on a local channel not cable. It would make sense it had a bigger audience.
MK is not the most known and most popular fighting game franchise. Are you referring to just the US?

Ok I didn't know about the E-League thing, my bad.

However, regarding CTP, yes it was on a local channel, but it still got bigger numbers despite SFV being on a cable. A show on a local channel gets higher numbers then a broadcast on cable, that should tell you something. Also, is CW really a local channel? I'm not familiar that much with US channels but last time I've checked CW isn't local.

And no, I'm not refereeing to just the US, I've seen people in Israel who barely heard of SF or even haven't heard of SF at all, but did hear about MK. Of course that in Japan it will be the opposite, but worldwide, that it is the case. It's not just the E-Sports that you have to take into account, but the overall impact on the media and gaming in general.
