Guide - Royal Storm RM KhaoTik's Royal Storm Kitana Guide to Surviving in MKX

I was playing MK9 yesterday and i just noticed how i missed Kitana's MK9 square wave punch. She could travel to the other side of the screen and with a very fast recovery when landing.

MKX's she flies low and huge recovery when landing.

I actually did this last week and had the same thought!

I also noticed that IAFs were sooooo much easier in MK9. It took me a while to get consistently good at IAF in MKX as you seem to have a much shorter window to throw them without whiffing.

I've seen some players that while using Kitana do some strings canceled into her fans and they seem safe on block, is this correct? Also what strings/combos can be canceled into fans and be safe on block?

212 fan is the safest she can do. However on Goro, due to his size 212 fan is still punishable by his command grab

Ah ok so that's probably what I've seen players do, ok so generally then 212>Fan is safe on block then?
only unsafe on Goro and Reptile (but Reptile won't punish it with 8% ex slide for sure). However 111 and F112 is still safe against ~ half of the cast (Mileena, Johnny Cage, Sonya....), some characters need to be stand blocking to punish 111 fan and F112 with normals, because duck blocking increase the push back. The problem is everyone duck blocks Kitana. Stuffs like this work in her favor alot more and make her fan seem safer than it actually is

Ok guys, I have a question regarding her low/X-ray mixup. I have read that you can do b14 or b3 canceled into her X-ray and since the 4 is a low and so is b3 and her X-ray is an overhead then it's a really good mixup to use, especially since her X-ray is fast. Now I have two questions:
1: What's more guatanteed, b14 into X-ray or b3 into X-ray?
2: I can do either of those into X-ray pretty consistently when I'm in neutral however if I run at them then I try to do these mixups I can't get any of those mixups to come out consistently, I mean the first string will come out but the X-ray wont. So again, if I'm standing and they're close to me I can get the X-ray to come out but if they're a bit away and I run then try to either do b14 or b3 into X-ray the X-ray only comes out about 1/7 times, why is this? Any tips? Thanks.

1. Both are nearly unblockable. However if you keep playing against a few friends and repeating them, the chance they block successfully will increase. The good thing is your xray is so scary that most people will just stand there trying to block, so if you have xray, you can actually throw them/jump in on them over and over again. 3 throws equal 1 xray. Keep this in mind and let em feel the mix
2. If you want to do B14 xray you have to press l2+r2 a few frame around the moment the low hits. The cancel window for xray is weird, input is only registered if pressed in the cancel window of the hit right before xray. Another example is: 212 xray, l2+r2 has to be pressed right after the last hit makes contact

Anyone with some advise on IAF, I KNOW they are hard to do, but I really want to get this down, I use d pad ps4, I have gotten better, on an average of 10 attempts I now get the following results:

One to the head(proper iaf)
Three just over the opponents head
Three that are 2 fan heights above their head and the rest are just her grunting and no fan, what I do is press up, then while keeping my thumb pressed down I slide it to the down button, still keeping my thumb pressed down I then slide it to the forward(save time so I do not press and lift, I basically swipe my thumb like a reverse check mark) and now press attack button 1(square), any and all advise will be appreciated, I know I must practice and practice and practice, if anyone has a really good button pressing technique I am open to practice it

I just picked Kitana (anybody plays this game? :) ) - I am glad recognizing that the guide from 2015 is still valid with the fundamentals - and some of the moves are just better than it was in 2015.
I will explore her and have fun. :)
IaF seems doable but yeah need practice.
