What's up everyone :D

So given that results threads tend to veer towards criticism *cough*, I wanted to take a moment just to talk about the positive aspects of the tournament season so far. It's really been a whirlwind to this point, with so many great events in so little time.

We've also had access to an unprecedented level of high-level play, with large groups of top players traveling to nearly every event since May (and more consistent dedicated streams).

So I wanted to know -- what are your favorite moments/matches in tournament so far?

-Matches
-Popoffs
-Comebacks
-Upsets and unlikely victories
-Moments of new tech or unusual setups
-Best finishes/closest sets
-Heartbreakers
-Biggest mop
etc.

What are the moments that made your jaw drop, and the matches that you on the edge of your seat? Lemme know and let's discuss!

P.S. Extra points for linking an archive with a timestamp, or a clip :)

I will leave my seal on you!
Easily the week 9 of the War of the Gods of which Buffalo took the whole thing with Sub-Zero alone and he was on the winners side the whole time. Excellent showcase of Sub-Zero, showing what Sub-Zero can really do.

Also @Yammini at Viennality with his Green Arrow, he was so hype at that tourney. Huge Kudos to him.

Other hornorable mentions: @HoneyBee at EVO and the Hometwon Heroes finales

I'm not surprised, motherfuckers
best tourney from a viewer perspective has been CEO easily, tune in and first match is that crazy one with foxy vs that unknown guy, foxy loses 3-2 crazy set. also every set madzin had that tourney was great to watch

Blade4693

VIVIVI
Two that come to mind are Whiteboi at CEO and HoneyBee at EVO. I know he didn't win but I can't think of another moment where I wanted a particular player to win so bad lol it was so hype when the momentum was on his side.

Pig Of The Hut

Day 0 Phenomenal Dr. Fate and Darkseid player
-Gross pop off
-tom brady telling us sub zero is ass
-buffalo winning WOTG w ^said ass character
-Madzin chair pop off
-Crimson ditching me for peeps at 12:20am
-Dragon winning EVO
-semijj maining superman
-Infiniti placing 125 at EVO after losing a top16 match vs king

ball roll enjoyer.
War of the Gods week 9. Not just Buffalo taking it all with Sub-Zero but Revetleafing's Cheetah. Spending all four bars of meter on MB Blood Lunges to send Semiij to top 8 losers. All of his games, really. Nothing brings more pleasure than watching a well-played Cheetah melt an opponent's healthbar like a stick of butter in the microwave.

My personal favourites so far have been

- Tekken Master v Biohazard at pro series just gone, bio could have switched out as the commentators said but he stuck with bane for an awesome set to watch

- Buffalo week 9 WOTG

- whiteboi CEO

- when biohazard brought out swamp thing vs sonicfox (not sure if it was a tournament or not but it was cool to see swamp thing get some screen time)

Honeybee has been my favorite to watch. Shutting sf's deadshot up at release was the start of an amazing year for him.

Pl vs king Batman mirror is up there for me too.

Bdon has risen to a must keep an eye on player. That fate is nasty.

Ultimately the best part of this year has been the character diversity. So many different tournament winners. I loved hopping on tym the next morning and seeing shaka say "so is *tournament winning character* top five now?"

Funny dude but it's awesome that we couldn't find a set tier list for this game and sf, tekken master, and bio are the best at showing that with their character rotations.

- for a tournament in general, viennality was my favorite for sure. seeing the european scene was a treat and the whole vibe about the tournament was just great. even the room they had the tournament in was dope.

- the very first tournament (forget the name of it) where @Pig Of The Hut won with atro. i remember watching that and thinking that this was going to be a great game.

- at ceo when whiteboi popped off so hard his glasses came off and the whole crowd started cracking up. then he went on to swim through a sea of aquaman and black adam to win the whole thing with a character that was still being aggressively downplayed.

- in the recent IPS finals each time (and this happened a few times) that someone either stuck with or went back to the character they started with or believed in. tekken master with atro, hayatei with robin, theo with superman, whiteboi with scarecrow, etc. this is maybe a broader point in general, but it feels like a lot of people were lost in the trap mentality of obsessively counter picking for a few weeks there, so it was genuinely refreshing to see that when it was all on the line, a lot of the top players said "fuck it i'm sticking with ____".

great thread btw. in thinking back on my favorite moments, perhaps the most notable thing is that there's been a ton of them. it's been a pretty eventful 5 months.

Honeybee is up there without a doubt for his run at EVO.

Gross beating Dragon twice in the same tournament.

Sonic's ability to win tournaments with different characters makes his wins in Injustice 2 overwhelmingly legit!

Theo Vs Dragon at Viennality!

Tekken Master and Biohazard have a good rivalry that has gone beyond American soil and to me a great rivalry! Combo Breaker though was their most hype match!

F0xy winning with Deadshot is hype to me. He plays Deadshot the best out of everyone in my opinion. My favorite matches are his match with Perfect Legend, any match he has with Tekken Master is hype.

Speaking of Tekken Master his match with Coach Steve was indeed hype with Steve taking it with Grodd!

Perfect Legend winning with Brainiac is hype all the time!

Madzin's pixel victories at CEO were ridiculous!

Tweedy at WOTG against Honeybee with Tweedy winning at 4 health was absolutely insane!

Revet's pixel victories in WOTGs with Cheetah was hype and him defeating Semijj twice in War Of The Gods was also hype!

Buffalo winning an entire WOTG's with Sub-Zero only was hype!

MK Raiden's Over 700 pre patch Black Adam combos were hype especially on Gorilla City!

Yammini's Green Arrow was hype at Viennality taking down Slayer!

Slayer beating Theo at CEO was a great high level match!

Slayer and Sonic Fox Black Adam final match was indeed hype!

Whiteboi's entire top 8 run of CEO winning the whole thing with Scarecrow!

Handy Savage Promo. Nuff Said!

Aixy beating Slayer with Supergirl was hype at VS Fighting and was nice to see somebody other than F0xy get the shine from the UK!

Nivek beating Slayer at Viennality was a huge statement and very hype to watch!

The very first WOTG match that Theo and Semiij had. Great spacing, great footsies and I think the final time that Theo won the match Vs Catwoman with Aquaman. It was a great display of high level play that I found hype!

I'm not sure if this I would call hype but it was definitely funny. Tweedy taking the absolute piss on camera whilst mopping 2ez at Hometown Heroes Finale. Everytime he beat him he posed for the camera which made up for the cringe worthy interview they did. I found that match hilarious to watch and made me appreciate Tweedy's character!

Hayatai at IPS Finals was great display of a rush down character being patient and getting in. It was hype to watch against everybody except when it couldn't work against Sonic Fox's Captain Cold.

So many hype moments for this game in terms of gameplay!

EVO and IPS Finals having the same 8 people was an incredible statement to how balanced currently the game is and whilst the game is not perfect it appears that the scene has come a long way from the days of MK9 where whilst the gameplay was good there weren't much top players shaking things up. I feel now there is a much bigger pool of high level players which is terrific for the game moving forward.

I predict that E League will have more great moments and different characters will begin to develop!

Real happy about the game from a spectators point of view!

Tl : dr- Plenty of hype moments, its gonna get better. I love spectating this game! May the NRS Community keep growing!

While I agree with the sentiment here, I think that switching characters will always be legitimate tactic that is perfectly valid in every other fighting game.

I think sometimes we vilify people for doing it, but as a competitor, your ultimate goal is to WIN. Imagine talking about a football team not changing strategy/making trades or a boxer not switching things up when it's not working.

There's too much money (and sponsorships these days) on the line not to do this. And as the game matures and people's alts become better and better, it'll become more and more necessary.
