Man, I Miss MK9.

Shoutouts to the most fun game NRS ever came up with.

Does anyone still play online?
I will seriously go get a PS3 and a copy if there's anyone left who'll run sets in it.
Hidden random select, every fight.

Where are you people?
Bro, I STILL remember my Sub Zero bnb combos. God I loved that game!

Erm.. While Kenshi may have been a better all-around character due to his footsies and armor, Freddy was probably the best pure zoner in the game.

But generally, I agree. While I liked MK9, I do not miss:

The meter drain glitch
A terribly unbalanced roster
Ridiculous chip damage
Cyrax
Cyrax
Picking rooftop day to run away with kabal
Top 8's having mostly 3-4 characters by the end, unlike the strong character diversity of Injustice and MKX
The online delay and lag
etc.

NRS is making better games now, and while MK9 will always occupy a fond place in my heart, people saying they want to go back are looking through rose-colored glasses.

I mean remember "If we only just had a rebalanced version of the game?" And then sone guy actually went through and rebalanced the game, and no one played it. That shows how much interest there really was.
100% agree!

I do miss my cyrax. Doing 80% combos was so fun. It was also the first competetive fighter ive ever played, and sparked the next 6 yr obsession for me playing NRS titles. Its where it all began for me. I played cyrax as my main then kenshi, reptile, and raiden.

Looking back, after going through igau, MKX, and i2, mk9 seems like it was an honest game.
Dude. As much as I loved MK9 - and hated it - for what it brought me as my first fighting game, it was not an honest game compared to the others you listed.

I could type a post the size of a novel to explain why, but I'll keep it simple:

- tournament play for MK9 (and IGAU) devolved into the same characters in almost every Top 8 or Grand Finals. If you didn't have a top-tier ready, you lost.

- input bug and meter drain glitches polluted MK9.

- specific characters had randomized frame data when blocking against them (see Johnny Cage's F3).

- wake-ups had so much invincibility that stuffing them was near impossible, if it was even possible to begin with (anyone is free to correct me on this).

- match-ups leaned more towards being one-sided than being even, especially with stage length involved.

Pretty sure there's other items I'm missing, but I think you get the gist.

What I will give MK9 credit for is the fact that it made it to three consecutive EVOs (I don't count 2014 since that was a side tournament), which is more than both Injustice 1 and MKX got.

Sorry to self advertise my mod here, but in all honesty, whenever I hear about the complaints MK9 had, I wonder: does the MK9 TE mod solve them? and if so, how much better MK9 is now? I wasn't able to fully fix the input bug and the netcode fix is 50/50 as to when it works, but I'm still working on the mod and feedback is appreciated.

There it is...
Mk9s core mechanics>
Character balance was horrendous and was full of bugs.

It could literally be fixed in a patch (on paper) and would be better than inj or mkx.

I hope mk11 goes back to mk9 mechanics

Are you high? Scorpion had unreactable 50/50s and Cyrax was a walking mixup
Not true. Scorpions 50 50 was reactable and not really a true 50/50. You had to stagger the timing for it to be effective. He was also one of the worst characters in the game.

Both of Scorpion's mix-up options (B2 and F4) were around seventeen frames if memory serve me well, but with both hitting at around the same frame, I highly doubt people have perfect success rates in blocking against them, especially if they are staggered as you say.

With slow normals and no advantage on his pokes as well as his EX Spear not being a true mid, yeah...he had lots of problems. The vortex and strong anti-airs were all he had going for him.

The animation of b2 was part of the issue. F4 was 17 frames and b2 was 18. I debated this with players back then as well. The only way it could be effective was if you staggered the inputs but then that left a gap I your offense. No good player was getting hit by jump in directly into b2 or f4.

My experience was vs players like cdjr, maxter, CD, reo and many other vsm guys during the life of the game. I could not hit them with b2 or f4 with static timing. It was not comparable to mkx.

Frames could actually be 16 and 17. I'm going off memory.
