Petition for NRS to support both of their series and not abandon their previous game

https://www.change.org/p/mortal-kombat-injustice-players-netherrealm-studios-stop-abandoning-your-previous-game-upon-a-new-one-s-release

I know this is a bit more of an MKX petition, but Injustice 2 is very much included in this. Long story short, I (and almost everyone else) want both of NRS' series to co-exist and for the previous game not to be abandoned when a new one is released (which MK9 and Injustice 1 fell victim to). If our voices are heard, Injustice 2 could get continuous support until the third game (which will probably happen) and we might actually get KP3 for MKX.

Please, me fellow players, let's get our voices heard and break this cycle!

NRS is a business, and has to conduct their business.. They aren't going to make MKX content for a few people on the forums.

We should probably stop trying to hold them to unrealistic expectations, and just be thankful for all the support they do give.

Like Smash Mellee, if you want the game to live then, *you* support it, you run the tournaments, you save for the pot bonuses. Can't lay the blame at someone else's feet for keeping a game alive.

You do realize you need to send this petition to WB and not NRS, right? WB are the ones who call the shots. You should re-title this to:

WARNER BROS: STOP FORCE NETHERREALM STUDIOS TO STOP THE SUPPORT FOR PREVIOUS GAMES.

I'm sorry but I can't believe that people still believe to this day that just because Ed Boon is the co-creator of MK, he's the one who is in control and that there is no one else who calls the shots regarding the business practices of NRS. Ed Boon doesn't own the franchise, and he didn't own it back at his days at Midway, nor did John Tobias. It was Midway who owned the franchise, and WB are now it's owners, and therefore, as much as it pains to deal with, if WB don't want NRS to keep the support for a previous game, they aren't gonna give them the green light and are gonna tell them to support only the current game.

And besides, you don't need a dev's support to play a game. I will keep playing MKX anytime I have the chance, and there are people on this site who still plays is and keep learning new stuff about it. I myself have discovered a few things regarding the Brutalities mere days before IJ2 game out (you can see a few of them on my YouTube channel :) ) That just goes to show you the depth of NRS games.

So if anything, at least change the petition and direct it to the right people.

KP3 would not save MKX. People moved on from that game because it got stale. From a competitors pov and spectator. It's not NRS or WB's fault less than 100 people were signing up for MKXL tournaments. Even Kombat Cup, a FREE ONLINE tournament was getting small turnouts.

Game balance in MKXL was great. No real patches needed and new characters would only add minimal hype for a short period of time. Community was just ready to move on to something fresh and new.

That's a Street Fighter model. MK is always going to wipe the slate clean and build a new game. It's better that way.

MKX doesn't need to be saved, it's already good the way it is now. Just because people got this mentality that they have to abandon a game because they feel like the game must get more support from the devs (who need to get the green light from the publishers for that), that doesn't it is truly the case. There are people who don't play IJ, and like I said there are people who still play MKX, myself included, even after I try to learn IJ2. Oh and about online tournaments, I kept coming to participate at the ESL Thursday and Community Cups on regular basis.

If someone wants to play a game so much, just go and play it, you don't need to rely on anybody else. It's not like there is any shame about it. People still to this day play old Capcom games, SNK games, and yes, even old MK games from Midway. Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 got a tournament for it 2 years ago to celebrate it's 20th anniversary.

If you like the game, just go and play it.

A lot of people jump onto the shiny new thing, whilst proclaiming the previous thing dead and terrible. KP3 would be hype, but realistically WB are gonna be pressuring NRS to make more injustice hats or whatever. That doesn't mean you can't still play MKX though. Balance is pretty good and people still play online (myself included).

Do you see Capcom supporting SFIV with new content? New patches? How about TTT2 with Namco? Do you see Nintendo supporting Melee? Etc etc etc.

It is extremely rare for a FG company to support an older iteration with the newer one. The only thing keeping those older games around is their communities. If the NRS community wanted to band together and keep MKX going, we could.

We won't though because the game was dying long before IJ2 came out. There's a reason a lot of people hopped to IJ2 and straight up dropped the game altogether. I'm not saying MKX was a bad game necessarily, it wasn't. But a lot of people in the NRS community didn't like it, so it kind of is what it is.

My main point is that you can't ask NRS to support their previous games. That is completely against their own interests and is something that no other FG company does (to my knowledge). The only thing you can ask for is the community to keep the game alive. We still have some high level MKX play at tournaments which is great, but a lot of people are gonna move on. Just part of the cycle.

Maybe I phrased that a little wrong. What I meant was for both the MK and Injustice series to get equal support going forward so one doesn't kill off the other every two years, and for NRS to be like Arcsys in supporting two franchises at once. I don't care that much if MKX doesn't get KP3, I love the game the way it is. I just want the devs to acknowledge that people may like one game or the other (and not both) and shouldn't feel like they're alone playing a dead game.

Overall, this is really for the future, not the present.

I agree with everything you said. However (no offense), unlike your examples, MK and Injustice are two separate series. I'm not saying NRS should support a previous game in one series (because there is a time to move on to a series' next game eventually), I'm just saying they should support both their series like how Arcsys supports both GG and BB.

I would love that too, but like I said, it's WB that need to change the direction, as they own both franchises (MK and IJ) and they want NRS to put all of the their effort on the new game only. But keeping a game alive it's not just by the devs and publishers alone, it's also by the community, and the community got that type of mentality. So if people really wanna see a change, they need to do 2 things: 1) To finally realize who is the one in control (and that is WB), and 2) try to change their mentality. That way, maybe, when WB will see that the community are truly willing to go that way, this can give WB more money in the long run, and then they will allow NRS to keep the support of the previous game and go to a new format of keeping the support by sequels rather then individual games.

xenogorgeous

.... they mostly come at night. Mostly.
this it how NRS fighting games life cycle works now and then : when a new game come out, the previous game starts to fade into oblivion .... so, when MK11 come out around some time in 2019, people will stop playing Injustice 2, and this will repeat always and forever time again, anytime a new NRS game comes .... just get used how it is ! :D

One can dream.

Really the responsibility is on the community. Although it's hard to fault players wanting to go all in on the newer game. Especially with those pot bonuses and the E league stuff.

I wouldn't be surprised if in a year, when people are accustomed to i2, we see more players willing to juggle two games.

I'm glad people liked MKX enough to want to keep it going. I really love that game.
