Hey everyone! Trying something new here, with a thread to summarize and discuss things people saw and or are thinking about from the last week. So let's go! What are your reactions to this week, thoughts, questions, concerns, favorite moments, etc? Your pick for Match of the Week?

Events to consider: NLBC, WNF, Red Hot Sundays, Toryuken and War of the Gods

MY SUMMARY

-Deadshot hasn't been figured out yet (contrary to some claims I've seen). His ability to mix with the best of them in close quarters has given him extended life in good players' hands. Doesn't mean that he's too strong, but getting through the zoning (which was supposed to be the main factor here) is clearly only half the battle. Anyone looking to beat him reliably is going to have to deal with the entire MU, rather than just the gunshots.

-Early in Injustice 2 Black Adam is currently that Kitchen Sink character you pick when your main isn't getting it done. Shades of MK9 Kung Lao and IGAU Batman (and later MMH).

-Sonic is still sonic. Not that we would have expected anything else -- but whether he's using new characters or old, the Yung Wonder is picking up the same way he left off in MKX.

-Legacy is strong early in INJ2. As to be expected, we're seeing a lot of old meta and old strategies winning early (vintage Superman, Aquaman, Batman, Harley and even BA to some extent -- albiet with his new gift of Footsies of the Gods(tm) from Based Paulo). It'll be interesting to see at what point the Tech Monster curve starts to bring the new characters onto par with the old in tournament. Which will be exciting to watch in the weeks to come.

-Atrocitus is looking very strong. The main factor that stands out to me, is that he's able to play his game almost regardless of what you're doing, and that consistency makes him a viable threat in a number of different situations. There's still a lot of room to lab this MU, but he also has a lot of room to mix up his approach by cancelling, armoring, and puddle'ing in different spots. Also, people are finding new ways to use the trait with every few days that go by.

-Swamp Thing and Black Canary are both incredibly exciting to watch, and have a lot of different tools to mix into their offense. Excited to watch their meta develop. I still don't know what the heck is going on with Gorrilla Grodd.

-It's nice to see the community turning out for online event viewership. It'll be key to see how these events fare as the months go on and that "new game glow" starts to fade a bit. 4k for Red Hot Sundays is really strong, and it'll require some ingenuity to try to retain that audience as time goes on.

Great thread idea, and great talking points all around. If anything this week has made me pretty hype for combo breaker, sad I have to miss it. Guess that gives me time to figure out what the hell Grodd and cheetah do besides jump all over the place.

Rathalos

Play Monster Hunter!
Injustice 2 so far is a lot like Injustice 1 for me, really fun to play, not so fun to spectate.
And before anyone says it, it's not really the zoner heavy nature of the series, just something about the pacing that makes like 70% of the matchups kinda dull. Every once in awhile you get a really good match though, so it's worth it to keep it on in the background well doing other stuff.

Week 1 thoughts:

My biggest gripe with any new NRS game is getting a huge character crisis because everyone looks so fun!

The community always makes me laugh with the early witch hunts and giving up on diamonds in the rough. (Deadshot and Adam. WoWo and Lantern so far)

I'm having a ton of fun with the lab and gear and multiverse. Ranked has decent connections so far, but I finally made enough connections to be able to forget it and play long sets with good players. Story mode was dope, and I don't see any fighting game coming close to that any time soon. Premier skins and shaders are gonna make tournaments fun as hell too.

Tournament mode is a gift from the gods, used it at our first weekly and made everything way smoother than mkx or igau or mk9.

My picks for the week...

Pro Scene Kicks Off

Mr Aquaman and Echo, along with Stream.Me opened the pro-scene for me (and many others) with "War of the Gods". A weekly ladder, with professional showmanship and stream.me just ups the production values 10 fold from Kombat Kup. replays, awesome fades, cool caster screen with DC Factiods and more.

Now we had a few starters, a few regionals and stuff but Stream.Me was the real start of the Pro-Leuage for me.. just in time to give us taste before ComboBreaker.

Added to that we have a 480 or so entries with some of the best players in the NA bracket. Old time heroes like Theo and Perfect Legend show they are still on top despite the doubters and of course the "known" quality of Sonic, Honeybee, FKing and MANY more.

The great thing about this of course is that it is a weekly ladder event, so we can see the pros adjust as new tech comes, as MUs are learnt and countered. This is "meta gaming eSports" at its best.. nothing but net for the viewers who can vicariously grow with the players from day 1 to the more stable endgame late in the games life when it is all skill and glory!

Hype as Fuck

Nothing did it more for me than Theo vs Sonic in stream.me's "War of the Gods". Theo (as far as I know) has been mia through MKx letting Sonic run wild and lets face it Sonic's Batgirl was bonkers at the end of IJ1... still Theo vs Sonic is somthing we have all wanted for so long and there was a lot of talk if Theo was going to damage his rep and just get owned...

Instead we had a match for the ages! Down to the wire jumping out of our seat HYPE... amazing.

The Community Comes Together

Meanwhile Pig shows the love with the return of Red Hot Sundays. In some respects an event equal to "War of the Gods". Some of the biggest names, not playing for cash, not playing for glory.. but playing for FUN,. Demo'n there off main characters even, just for showcase. Just for fun, just for the NRS community. Wow.

This was so cool and shows that the NRS community despite its reputation (sometimes earned) rep for being toxic still dose stuff that I do not see anywhere else. Try getting a Street Fighter event running with all the pros and no prise money running to the super early hours of the morning and STILL having pro players stacked so deep wanting to play that Pig just can not get them all on stream.

Holly fuck balls. Epic is not even close to a word for this.

...NURFFS...BUFFS....

Day 1.. not even 1 day actually... and the calls start for nurffs and buffs. Deadshot is broken, Darsied need a mid.. the forums are deep with threads and the hate on youtube from casuals is strong.

Well, some things never change!

The Tech Flows

There are so many tech gods out there, I can not be expected to mention them all but I will say that the Condiment Brothers, Tom Brady and Akro are just warming up.. building new tech, or explaining tech in a way everyone can understand. Looking for solutions instead of just freaking out. Yeah.. I'm talking about Tom as well :p

Also some lighter players like Samjam brining back there intro videos for beginners with Breakdowns and BnBs allowing even the noobs to get some action in. Again, a community effort.

Personal Stuff

For me as a Wonder Woman player Akro is my new idol (squeaky wheel gets the grease and all) but I've dropped Catwoman for Cheetah and she may even become my main. Like many people I am in character crisis as NRS has made nearly the entire cast appealing to everyone. Most people I know can narrow it down to about 1/2 the cast that they want to learn! I do not know about you, but this is kind of unheard of and a great props to NRS.

Though the real pleasure for me was Grrr and Biohazard once again picking the same characters form each side of the boarder and both bringing mega hype. Bane is for some reason my most favoured character to watch. In a game so "omg the zoning is crazy!! This game sucks" seeing these grapple characters kicking ass is just gravy.

Biggest Personal Disappointment

There has been little action form the EU scene that I have heard off. We need someone over that side of the planet to follow Pig or Stream.me's lead and start a online weekly. I wana see Nevik, Madzin, Foxy, Mantis and ALL the rest I have not listed...

Week 1 was almost to good to be true

That was week one for me... I think it is one of the best starts to a game in a long time and while I LOVED mkx IJ2 already look like it is more wildly liked and has more potention to be all sorts of awesome.

I really hope the ESL dose the two leagues like in MKx with the invitational to the offline!!

BunLantern

Long live b13 minigun
Shout out to Dr Gross's Green Lantern playing against Playing2Win's Deadshot on Red Hot Sundays. It single handedly gave me hope that the matchup is at least playable. If that man ever drops GL all hope will be lost.

RNLDRGN

RONALD ROGAN
Putting Swamp Thing hype in the same sentence as Black Canary is blasphemy. Our Lord of the Green is a technical, weird, hype monster while Canary is a 50/50 snoozefest.

Everything else pretty on point.

So is it written anywhere what the in game currencies do? And how to earn them? I don't know why credits exist and I'm gonna need a hell of a lot more source crystals up in this bitch.

Also does anyone know how to have an offline player 2 have access to the console owners gear and stuff? I want my find to be vixen, gear, and freeze.

Supergirl is mid tier at BEST. Confirmed by @A F0xy Grampa and I assume Scar would agree as well. Anyone know Scars tag on here? Lol...

Brainiac vs Darkseid was really worrying for me. Lex vs Zod rerun?

Other than that Between RHS, War of the Gods and the locals, things are going to get crazy.

Hopefully DS won't keep ruining the party.

Credits exist to buy you loot boxes.
Loot boxes exist to give you gear
Source crystals exist to visually transform that gear into other gear, buy hype shaders and premiere skins, or purchase weird things like upgrading your character level
Regen tokens exist to re-roll the stats for a piece your gear

That's my 2s summary, but someone who knows a lot more about these kinds of things can probably go more in-depth.

Favorite match this week was Theo vs Sonicfox was entertaining. Favorite moment Rico Sauve winning NLBC this week. Also seeing the return of Kdz and a win at the break.
