Wakeup Attacks

How do these work in Injustice 2?

Is it like MK? Do certain moves have armour properties?

I'm pretty free on knockdown at the moment and everything I'm attempting results in me getting punched in the face

Thanks, but wouldn't everyone just use that move on wakeup then?
Not necessarily. Most of them have quite intricate designs, resulting in people being able to create set ups to stuff them.

If you go back and watch matches of @16 Bit's Catwoman in IGAU you'll see countless examples of this.

As I2 develops you'll see character communities developing tech to stuff the rest if the cast's wakeups

Every special move can be done as a wakeup attack(plus backdash and throw). Most wakeup attacks gain no invincibility but some do, anywhere around 1-3 per character. The invincibility varies. Some moves are fully invincible and some only have limited invincibility, so they can be stuffed. For some moves the invincibility is gone early into the move and it's easy to stuff, sometimes it's only a few frames and it's very difficult.

The timing of when you do the wakeup attack during the knockdown can throw off the opponent's attempt to stuff it. For example, if you input the wakeup late it may still have invincibility when your opponent is trying to stuff it to beat a fast input wakeup attack.

You can delay wakeup by holding flip stance. There is a short and long delay depending on how it is held. If you delay wakeup you disable the ability to do a wakeup attack.

Pro tips:
I've seen a few wakeup attacks complained about as being too good or free that are not actually fully invincible and could be stuffed. This will be a key skill to learn and you can expect the super top players to have mastered this while others don't get it. So if you want to make some of that e-sports money I'd spend a lot of time on this.

On the flip side, by mixing up your timing and throwing in the delayed wakeup you can throw off someone who's good at stuffing these semi invincible wakeups. So don't flip out and assume you literally can never wakeup if your character lacks a fully invincible wakeup attack.

Cool thanks guys, so some moves have invincibility on wakeup but some have more, some are punishable, so the attacker can bait it or choose to do whatever. This creates mind games so it adds to the fun.

Limited inv? U mean hit box/hurt box? Move is partially inv to highs lows?

Or are u saying some have limited inv and will only work if they are on top of you? I know deadshots gets stuff a lot but if feels like it has about 3 frames. It works when they are on top of me but slightly delayed normals at sweep distance trade or stuff. I think this is a big change in the day one patch. Day -4 it was inv way longer I think

I think he means that some specials are invincible from like frame 1-10 and if that attack hits on frame 9 then it's considered fully invincible. If it was invincible from frames 1-6, it would have partial invincibility because you could still hit them before the move becomes active. That's how injustice 1 was. Batgirl had full invicibility on her flying bat. Teleport and cartwheel had partial invincibility so a well timed attack could beat those out.
