"Once I beat SonicFox I'm done with the game forever", PunkDaGod challenges the best in Injustice 2

Punk isn't going to play Injustice 2 lol.

And if he is stupid enough to do so, someone needs to talk some sense into him.
Dude doesn't need to distract himself right now, he's basically carrying America on his shoulders right now in SFV.
Carrying America? There were 4 Americans in the last premier top 8. The current world champion is from America and the last capcom cup featured an all American grand finals(no punk).

You guys might be looking at this wrong. Maybe punk is trying to be nice and help out the NRS community. After a few years it's become obvious that no one here can actually beat fox so he's gonna come and try to save the community from the stagnation. Maybe he's the hero you deserve.
Yeah, I honestly don't understand how anyone can hate on this. This is free and incredible marketing for Injustice. It got a bunch of Capcom players with huge followings all talking about the game. And MAYBE we will get more than a few incredibly talented players in the next few months who can give Fox a run for his money, which helps the hype in the scene. It got media talking about the game, like that pvp article. This is marketing 101.

It's a win for everyone (except sonicfox if he ever stops making free money off the games because competition gets higher ;))

Thinks he can just up and hop in inj2 without any work and beat the best in our scene. Dude is high. If he even played at something like ceo i don't even see him making it out of pools with the killers we have.. dude didn't even know who pig was. Have a seat..

Absolutely not, it's nothing even close to that.

The closest football analogy would be comparing a footballer's wages to determine the better player, but even that is completely different.

That money he is talking about, is prize payouts that he was directly/solely responsible for. That doesn't exist in football.

The only appropriate comparisons would be one on one sports with prize payouts (boxing, tennis, snooker)
Jay Cutler's $25 million salary doesn't make him Tom Brady

never heard of him, but by "the best" you mean he wins everything? even over the asians?
He's ranked #1 for this 2017 season. Over everyone. In all honesty this guy is amazing at sfv, his reaction and intuition are excellent. Has a habit of teabagging everyone he plays, which is the part that gets him some bad rep.

That's why I said "even that is completely different" (in other words, using salaries of players in team sports is not the same as comparing prize payouts won in individual sports tournaments)

Fox is going to mop punk. End of discussion for me. History repeats itself. Fox dominated inj1, mkx and he is poised to hold onto his throne as king of nrs inj2.

It'll be nice to play against the capcom players. It'll make for some good stories and such. Punk isn't beating fox period but the "hype" for it is cool. It'll probably just end up being the typical capcom players get one or 2 early ass placings, start to lose, talk shit about our game and bounce back to theirs.

Its tradition at this point. A lot of the ogs in this scene know that this happens every time nrs release a new game.

Who are the marks that this marketing applies too? I think it's misunderstood that these guys draw viewers/players when that literally couldn't be further from the case. Justin Wong and others have, like a robot on a loop, hammered in "KOF XIV is the best fighter on the market today," and it has done nothing for making tournaments bigger or really drumming up massive excitement for the game. Same thing with KI. Same with Skullgirls.

Those games succeed because the people that actually play them and aren't in it to wallow in the muck of avarice for a few months can actually show off the game's potential. It's cool that these guys want to say they support the game, but that endorsement has very little return, historically

I may not like seeing fox win every tournament. only because it's less exciting and no other reason at all.
but damn I get hype when I see fox defend NRS games. the dude has a genuine passion and he will not let anyone push him around and insult NRS games in any way. that's a champion right there both in game and away from the console. glad to have you around fox!!

All those games failed for numerous reasons. KI was on a system like 10 people owned, and by the time it wasn't it was 3 years old and pretty ugly. KoF had no chance to recover after those reveal vids and how ugly it was became a meme in the mainstream (and no one historically playing KoF in the west anyway)... and Skullgirls is an old as time indy game that came out around the same time as SFxT, Soul Calibur V, MvC3, MK9 and numerous iterations of SF4.

Injustice 2 on the other hand is coming out when the only other big game right now is SFV which a tooooon of people are unhappy with, and are looking for other options. Yet this game that everyone hates still had 40k viewers on twitch a couple days ago.

To say that kind of exposure is meaningless to a triple A game with a big license that is already selling out of pre-orders is crazy to me. Injustice 2 can't be compared to Skullgirls or KoF for so many reasons.

Better players tried before and it's not the super 'fundamental mastery' of SF players that are going to. Sonic is going to tear him apart as always. Oh and by the way, about the 'has no evo medals in SF' no one roasts on Daigo because he doesn't play MKX or KI, or even stopped competing at Marvel after year 1 - and even back then it wasn't even relevant - and he never stopped being worshipped as a god even with less consistent results than Sonic Fox is having with NRS games. If there was a cloud of doubt that the FGC has a clear bias towards Capcom, and that no one can be a great player unless competes in SF - which is bull - I guess this tweets shed light to this cloud.

Also, thank freaking Christ Sabin is talking some sense. Remember when Ultra David used to lecture us here about how Capcom players were not prejudiced against NRS games and would play them long term had it not been for patches? Yeah, OK.

Nothing against David but always thought he was wayyyyy off in that regard.
I hear you, and I'm pretty sure SFV has had its share of patches so far, and game is still jankybones

It's only had one character balance patch. That's probably why it's still garbo. So careful what you wish for... because now they're desperate for more patches lol. The irony.

The rest were just bug fixes and OS removals.

I just looked through my Xbox mssgs. I don't see it so sure you can show me if you'd like. There are hundreds of teejays on Xbox btw

Edit: Unless you're LAHWFF or Skeezer. Lahwff yeah I played him a shit ton wen the game first released. It was my first fighter competitively and he already was seasoned(if that was you) went back and forth. Only reason I wanted to play him (or you) lmao was because he was way better than me and I wanted to level up. I got plenty of messages saying let's play from that account myself so idk wat you're on

I'm glad you brought up memes, because that does play a big factor.

A prevalent meme that has indoctrinated thousands of would be players of other fighting games is that SF is the "correct" way to play, and that everything else is cute but it lacks "fundamentals," so you can't take it seriously. The character that shazzy plays? There are plenty of people who actually think that.

So when a game comes along that tries to do something different, and may not play in the traditional way, it gets its fair share of detractors who don't actually play but just apparently know well enough that it's for mutants and anytime it's on stream it's an abomination.

This is your average fgc fan when it comes to a game that doesn't have an established, nostalgic legacy or "normal" gameplay. The factors you mention play a part, but none bigger than this. No word of mouth can save a game from this.

I2 is going to triple the sales of SFV within one year. It's going to be better reviewed than SFV. It's going to be played by more casual fans than SFV will in its entire lifespan. Unfortunately, no one can solve that initial problem of it being wacky, which means there's a large population that already has its back turned to it, top/known player opinion be damned.
