Johnny Based Cage

The Shangest of Tsungs
Its fluid on stick
It's a smooth quarter circle in one direction and then a snap in the completely opposite direction, no matter what device you're using. Only way it's fluid on stick is if you're doing a full 3/4 circle and crossing over UB, U, UF to get to F. FDB or BDF are smooth, fluid motions; DBF is not.

Ive been doing it since I1 on stick and its smooth for me. Bane was the first character I learned on stick. I find dbf motion to be way smoother than churning butter for a 360 input

The Power of Lame Compels You
It's not that you can't become accustomed to the motion and have it eventually feel smooth, it's just that there are way better motions they could have picked. In SFV when I do a command grab as Alex it's second nature, in NRS games it's weird. I will say in Injustice the motion feels better for some strange reason. MKX command grabs felt stiff.

guys be thankful you have a man such as myself with such attention for detail wanting to use swamp thing ;)

@15.48 in this vid. game is paused and you see swamp thing move list, both green thumb and vine grab are not dbf motions (currently anyway) they both df, so relax :)

If they stay that way it'll be a glorious day indeed.

Until that moment where it turns into an input error like Jason's air grab. Love the DBF motion actually, and find NRS games have a giant buffer window as it is. Just gotta clean those inputs up.
It may be something you're used to or okay with, but there is still no reason for the input to be done that way from a balancing perspective or a lack of other, more intuitive motions to choose from. Which makes it a completely arbitrary decision

Thank God. Can you imagine inputting dbf for vine grab AND having to add whatever on the end of it to select your range too?

Ultimately for me, the point is just that the input is unnecessary, as there are plenty of other motions available that are more intuitive.

That seems like a bit of a reach. From a balancing perspective higher level players will be executing these without a problem. It's not like we have balance around 1 frame links or anything. Personally, I prefer a situation to not happen where you want to do F2 out of block, but since you were blocking down you occasionally get grab. I'm just a fan of clean inputs giving you what you want instead of making it easier but getting an "oh well game engine" moment from time to time.

For reference I play mostly on stick and find it to be a smooth motion. Have also done it on pad. Took 20 minutes or so but was fine after that.

Either way I'll just play and get used to it, so we'll just say it's personal opinion and leave it at that.

Fair enough. For the record though, I wrote that balance and a lack of alternative input options aren't a real factor in picking such an unusual input combination, thereby making the decision an arbitrary one which is why I see it as silly. But if you prefer it then more power to you.

I WILL EAT THIS GAME
Tyler was clearly trying to do Green Thumb instead half the time and just further proving both that he is a total scrub and that NRS dbf inputs for command grabs are wack.

SOMEONE PLS ALERT THE MAKERS IN THE HOPES OF CHANGE

DBF's have been the biggest boner killer there is for me since forever.
Especially since in almost every case there is, that button had another special mapped to it.
Bane was the only exception in IGAU.
Jason, Cryo Sub, and Butcher all have that issue.
How many times do you think, if you were playing Sun God, you'd get the Parry instead of On Your Knees if it were DBF2?

EDIT: PROBLEM DOESNT ACTUALLY EXIST FOR SWAMP THING YAY

Nah it's easy on stick. That's a basic input in games like SF and GG. I think it's just whack on pad, which imo is the better controller for NRS style games(hitbox is obviously the best but ain't nobody got time for that).

You might still wanna do it with a forward motion on the end in SF unless you're using it as a tick throw. The buffer window is big enough that you can do walk forward command grabs with it, I know back in s1 if you did hcb, f as mikas command grab you could do tick throws That would whiff unless you got the 1-2 frames of walking up. Not sure if it's super useful on Alex though.

Maining CW, but swamp thing is the closest thing I'm gonna get to Grundy so he's definitely going to be my secondary.
