IGN Unfiltered w/ Ed Boon: More years behind him (in the industry), than in front of him

IGN recently conducted an interview w/ Ed Boon like no other. This interview is over 40 minutes long and covers areas of the Mortal Kombat history and Boon's initiation into the gaming industry.

Some key points and great information that is heard in the interview is that no one was laid off during the transition from Midway to Warner Bros, Mortal Kombat 9 & Injustice were being planned before Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe was finished. Boon also stated that they do not plan on joining the two universes together due to one of the universes having to sacrifice for the other. On this note, Boon would "entertain the idea" of Mortal Kombat vs Street Fighter if Capcom would have interest.

I wonder if how he transitioned the comments about non/fighting games, and Shaolin Monks over to the D.C. and Injustice brand are indications that we may indeed get an action adventure title from NRS, but it'll be a D.C. one instead of MK, which I think it's fine if they make those too, but MK should really be top priority.

Well, the reality is (and this interview kind of cements it) that a lot of this whole "Netherrealm Studios" thing was hinged at least partially on the fact they were willing to make triple a DC fighting games. Now that they've been successful three times in a row, the notion that MK is a "priority" because it came first is dead.

If WB says the next shaolin monks is staring Batman and Robin, that's just the cost of doing business.

Injustice 2 is the first Ed Boon game without Scorpion. Since MK1. That's crazy
Not true. The original MK3 did not have Scorpion in the game!

Absolutely crazy but they actually did! Thank God for Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 rectifying that mistake!

Yeah but UMK3 was an updated version of MK3 after all. It's like saying Bo' Rai cho is not in MKX because when KP2 came out, the game was updated to MKXL.

Special Forces had Scorpion? I haven't played that one but I thought it didn't. Also didn't they develop some weird gods or mythic beings fighting game?

Honestly, this should have been asked. Although, perhaps IGN doesn't know the demand of KP3.
Journalists tend to be given a "you can't address this" list and I'm very much certain that the direction of MKX post-I2 release was left for teasers to come. It's a marketing choice.

SF only has Jax and terrible Black Dragon characters, and the voice of Domino, whatever she is. No ninjas, no monks, not even sonya (due to dev issues, apparently). But most people (including NRS) try to forget that game exists.
