Tonight, for the NetherRealm titles, Mortal Kombat X is the last top 8 to take place at Winter Brawl 11 hosted by Big E gaming in Essington, PA. Out of the competitors tonight, SonicFox and Dragon are the only two returning competitors from 2016's Winter Brawl. With that said, we have new and hungry competitors in this 2017 top 8 including Scar, Cossner, Dark, KevoDaMan, Forever Elite and SilverRye.

The event has great significance to our scene at this current time as Injustice 2 is right around the corner, so Mortal Kombat X having the prime Sunday stream time and proper exposure is vital for keeping Mortal Kombat X thriving for those who feel MKX is far from over.

I WILL EAT THIS GAME
Okay.

So...I love Fox. I love Scar.
And that was a solid Grand Finals. Scar's one of the only people who makes Smoke look hype to me.

But we all need to get better. A LOT better.
Because I swear to god, it feels like the entire time MKX has been out, from the Fatal 8 until today, every Top 8/Top 4/Grand Final for a while has been made up of the same 5 or 6 people. I'm probably wrong, but not like drastically wrong.
We, the competition, need to take this as a sign to build a gravity machine and raise our power levels.
Or we are going to be cosmic dust come May.

The talent pool needs to get bigger. Smarter. More delicious.

So much to ponder...

Not as many people are traveling anymore. Hopefully inj2 will bring back a lot of people.

The Nrs vets dominated this game so hard because they know what to expect. Most of them have been competing for years and years while most of us are just starting.

When i first played mkx i had no idea what frames/ active frames, hit and hurtboxes and button notations were. Online was awful so a lot of us practiced there, went offline and got mopped up. As SOON as nrs cleaned up the net code and the new players (like me, destroyer, toxin, tweedy etc) brushed up on mus and data, things started to change in tournaments.

What im getting at is, our community has leveled up ALOT since mkx dropped and more online players are competing offline. With the knowledge all of us have now going into inj2, i expect TOTALLY different results come next game. But we'll see. Mkx is gone in the results direction. Scar, dragon, Sonic run the game. Its up to us to change that in May.

I love watching Fox and Scar play. I remember watching Scars early videos when he was doing sets with his clan mates on YouTube and his main was Sonya. Good to see him grow. Sonic just seems to be in a dimension of his own. It gets to the point where he can have 10 percent of health left and if I see him start getting momentum then I just assume the other player already lost the round. Can't deny skill when it's right in front or next to you giggling.

I swear, sometimes it's like fox let's people reset him to put on a show and then he shuts that shit down afterwards
I've been thinking the same. There's no way you go from having such a close game and having the bracket reset on you to just straight up DOMINATION. He probably sandbags to keep the yawning at a minimum when he wins.

well top players only play with top players and won't spend time with lower level players to help others level up. Real shit.

Tbh, we are too small of a community to not set up some sort of NRS Akademy where several top players do classes or something to help people level up.

But, in retrospect, there is a lot more high level players than in MK9

This is actually not true. Who told you that?
Personal experience when I was trying to get better. On Twitter, high level players generally ignore you unless you go to offline tourneys and meet them. Slayer NEVER responded to me asking about KJ until I went to MWC16 and placed 5th taking him to game 5 in Winners top 8, then he'd start chatting with me. I've asked SonicFox several times for games and he don't respond. Hell, I used to be really good friends with Dragon and for a while he wouldn't play with me because "He was just trying to play against the best right now". It's not like that right now but there was a time. You know how many times I've played Scar? I've asked him multiple times on Twitter and in his Twitch chat and he has NEVER replied.

Now, I'm not faulting anybody or shaming anybody nor am I talking shit. Everyone is themselves and I respect them as players and people but I am telling you right now from personal experience. You go to the offline events and you make yourself known via personality or gameplay or people are ignoring you.

EDIT: now there are several players that'd play with me even when I was shit in IGAU...Pig, DarthArma amongst others...and in MKX F0xy was always willing to play. So there are some good ones.

Yeah -- I mean while there are some guys who will only play a select few, a lot of this also cones down to attitude. If you're a generally negative person who gets a rep for that, people aren't going to be jumping up and down to play you.

If you're beating up on midlevel guys, word will get out and people will be more open to games. Or if you're a cool person who's making a lot of friends, people will be more open to playing with you.

While there are a couple people who tend to stick with playing with the upper level dudes, you can't just put all the top level players under the "Wont play with you unless you're the best" umbrella. There are plenty of great players that ive been like "We should get some games in sometime" and they've been like "Sure thing just add me" our community is way more inclusive than people give credit.

Seriously though, most people will just play if you ask lol.

I mean I'm sure sonic is busy because everyone wants to play him, same w scar. Outside those two if anyone denies anyone games, just call them Hollywood cucks and move on.

It's just another excuse, like tiers or OP characters or whatever. When I was trying to level up I would hit up any and everybody that I would see on twich streams. There was some guy who lost to Sonic in pools at CEO, I hit him up, and we played 50 games. You can find people to play if you look hard enough.

A lot of these people will only hit up specific people who place top 16 or better at majors. Join a clan. There are all kinds of obscure players in Khaotic and Emperor who are good as fuck. Most of my XP lately comes from Khaotic Rewind.

try to become interesting/appealing

don't start with sonicfox right away, try to get on some stream or with someone with a name but within your grasp
from there just don't be a training dummy even if you lose, show that you can make them bleed and get those props
from there sneak into koth rooms and widen your audience

People just wanna mash and wake-up with anything. Once players like f0xy and sonic know this its game over.
