Put bluntly, giving every idiot with voice a say in how the soup is prepared has never helped anything ever. Didn't help SF5. Didn't help Infinite Warfare. Didn't help any MMO ever.
Keep it closed, cherry pick some people (Casual and pro) who have shown a consistent interest in promoting and improving the game, and turn them loose. They will find just as many crippling bugs as a beta daycare full of screaming uncoordinated fans who just want to play a new game for free.
Yeah, but at the same time, games like Nioh have actually accomplished things from their open betas.
Opened or closed betas don't have any impact on what changes in the full game alone, it's also about the developers actually choosing and working to fix those things. A beta didn't help SFV was because, in all honesty, Capcom sucks and a lot of the stuff they have done with SFV has been proven to be amateur-levels of work. It didn't help Infinite Warfare because Activision just uses betas as a demo to get people "hyped" and to lock-in purchases (because you have to pre-order to get codes early).
The Injustice 2 beta may, or may not have any impact on the final game. Either way, I'm still excited because at least we get to play the game early.
EDIT: I don't know if my point came across clearly, but basically I'm saying you can still achieve a lot from an open beta. SFV was a closed beta (at least for a period of time) and it didn't help. Just because it's closed doesn't mean it's going to help anything. Anyway, it's good to hear things from both casual and competitive players so you can do things to the game that improves both sides.
