If NRS removed the ability to cancel pokes on block......

who do you think?

My vote would be Predator. The character already has a lot of problems that are compensated for by being able to special cancel his D4. HQT doesn't have many options to control space outside of D4 or NJP, in terms of normals. His mid (S2) doesn't advance and is mainly used as a check in pressure and his B2 is a slow high. You take away his D4xLow Plasma mind games and he's left with: a punishable D4, below average mid options, bad walk back speed, and limited AA options. Controlling space would be a nightmare without his D4 cancels. Also, Warrior and Hunter lose their mind games of potential launches for counter poking.

Most grapplers already have mind games off of plus, hit confirmable, or launching strings anyways, so while they may be hurt, I don't think it would be as bad as Predator.

I think that the mind games revolving around special canceling pokes is stupid. Most of the time the character already has good enough mid options that control similar areas of space, so having mind games around counter poking is unnecessary. Most of the time it just seems like a crutch for players to get their turn back instead of committing to a read. So then you get conditioned to sit there and hold a poke or two on block because you're fearing the follow up and then they grab you or go into pressure.... from a blocked poke. It's so stupid to me.
For instance, Shinnok now has a really good F3 that, in Bone Shaper, is easily hit confirmable, safe, and builds meter. Still, I hardly see it used because the mind games off his pokes open people up more often. He's already solid enough as a character that he doesn't need that conditioning tool anymore, in fact he'll barely be hurt. I think most people are just saying Shinnok because D4xHell Sparks is a true block string, which isn't that necessary for him.

As a Tremor main, I can say definitely not him. Zoning is your goal with Aftershock (my variation) and his pokes are for stopping opponents from getting in, plus they're safe. He'd lose a defensive option in canceling the pokes into Stone Shatter to make a little space, but it wouldn't be a true loss. I voted for Alien because, well, we've all seen those far-ass confirms (even though he got nerfed, he's still viable).

See I was thinking Alien too but he already has some of the best normals in the game. Most of the things he can cancel into, bar Acidic, aren't safe anyways so the risk/reward isn't beneficial.

I'm gonna give Bo Rai Cho a mention because he's not on the list, other characters would be hurt more I think, but Bo Rai's weak hit advantage pokes and the nature of some of his specials make for good cheeky poke special cancels. In DM df1 jails of of d4 too so there's that too.

Poke into specials are bullshit. This is another aspect of the game that got worse post MK9 as well.

I really wouldn't care if it wasn't that viable just like it wasn't in MK9, everyone had poke into specials, but they were pretty minus on block that you could punish ppl for doing it with your eyes closed.

But no, we have to hold Scorpion doing d4~flame aura and even if d1~call back with KL beats button mashers, i don't like this mechanic at all.

Another thing that should definitely be gone is this for sure, either they make pokes way more negative that cancel into specials would be just as bad, or they don't cancel into specials at all.

Shinnok jailing d4 into sparks is just ridiculous - just adds another layer to countering the counter mind games.

It first started with poking mind games and counter poking - but then pokes on block into specials are meant to counter your counter poke. So it's actually become a thing to confirm a poke on block into a special. Pre-patch- kung lao d1 on block into ex spin was just cancer

If I had it my way all pokes be -6 at minimum and you would not be able to cancel on block or at least have it so everybody can interrupt but I'm not really complaining. Its more of annoyance but there be other prioritys over this that needs changing for sure.

It's one of these counter book scenarios that will mostly hit the fundamentally sound players more so than others

Removing the general mechanic of canceling pokes into specials would put another nail in the coffin for Balanced Kenshi. Same with Stunt Double.
Why would you ever cancel a poke into a special as Balanced Kenshi though

I can tell you it is very useful considering his lack of options.

People are itching to bully him after he tries to poke, specially when he's meterless. If they don't have a 6f d1 or a very fast starter to do immediately after having blocked the poke, they will get hit by things like d1~push, and he's saved. Even if they block it, is -10 now. If he wants to take more risks (-12) but better reward (gives full combo even when trading with some pokes) d1~rk is there.

When you make them respect that option, they will think twice before releasing block after blocking your poke, and that gives you options like walking back, throw... Same with d3. Everything that slows your opponent down when up close is welcome.

Shitty option, but that's what I mean, he needs every option he can get.
