Street Fighter V General Discussion

Rog does beat Guile.
Only if I'm using Guile lol, seriously though, I know these pro/top players know much much more than me but sometimes you have to take what they say with a grain of salt. Sometimes someone might say something and be believed and even after results and years of placings, the opposite proves right, or better said, they're proven wrong, so we'll see I guess. And before anyone says "placings or results don't tell the whole story", while it's true that it doesn't tell the whole story it still plays an important role in the story, I'd say very important. Shout out to xian for sticking with Fang!

I personally think Gief should be able to combo in command grab automatically off of everything he does. Literally. If he blocks? Command grab. Jabs you? Command grab. Chosen at character select? The screen spins around as it loads.
I know you're being facetious but... I'd be Ok with that, lol. I literally have one combo which whiffs a lot, and they have GOT to give us something. Literally every unofficial universal change hurts Zangief. If I could combo into EX SPD, that would be great. But goddamn, we need something! Everyone is talking about Ken and Guile, and Mika, but play any of them with Zangief. You literally spend the whole match blocking or chasing your opponent, waiting for them to fuck up and hoping you don't miss your punish. And Nash? Sweet god. I just got done playing a few against him and we just walked from one end of the stage to the other, me accruing chip damage and him doing whatever he wants. As soon as you get damage, he's immediately out with V-Reversal or V-Skill. Not fun.

I now feel that pain with Birdie :/

Gief vs Mika isn't that bad. I'd personally say it's even, but I think you could argue it's in giefs favor if you felt like it.

As a Zangief player, I call it 5-5, because we can both beat the crap out of one another. Mika is a way better character, but Zangief can guess right a few times or get his pressure going and the match is over. If he makes her guess wrong, she's dead. But I don't think he wins because you can punish anything I press fairly well, and a good Mika makes you sit on your heels half the match. And for the record, all the people crying that Mika is cheap (or even Top 5) I think are full of shit. She's about to get nerfed to hell, and I feel it is undeserved.

I also think rog beats guile, he beats ryu too.
Ono bless Balrog. He's the one character Zangief cleanly beats 6-4 no matter who you ask! I feel Zangief beats a few other characters, but no one ever argues that match. I think it's very fun because Rog has INSANE come back potential, so the end of the match is always a thrill, but until he gets V-Gauge and Critical Art (unless he spends his meter very well, which is terrifying with Zangief) I can rock him. So much fun!

Right on brother! Have you ever tried FANG? Dude is crazy hard to play. I really hope he gets buffs because he deserves them. No one should have to work that hard for damage. What's his crush counter combo (without CA)? 350? Big deal. Leave the top tiers alone and BUFF US LOW TIER WARRIORS!! :)

I play em both(Mika way more though) and I just feel like it's the kinda match zamgief likes. One where his mobility isn't an issue. That plus he's got a great punish to drop kick and probably the best poke in the game to check cr hp. That being said Mika will still kill your ass dead if you let her in and guess wrong 2-3 times in a row.

Damn skippy! That's exactly how I feel about it. Like I said, Mika is a better character with more tools, but you said it exactly. Her tools all involve on the ground, mid and close range fighting which is all Zangief can do. And my buttons actually work! And not just "jab jab, 80 damage and they are gonna run now, FUCK." Like actual footsies, lol. Very fun.

Don't be so quick to judge Season 2 Gief. Alot depends on his dash and his knockdown advantage after lariat and spd. If they buffed his knockdown adv on Lariat, or made his dash faster, he could be really scary. Ultradavid already said you can't back tech after a lariat, so his oki is already improved.

Who do you play?

The lariat fix on crouchers is nice and the no tech roll buff is great. The same issues he had before apply, though. Maybe even worse. White life was an issue and it's reportedly worse. And I think that's what he's saying.

So have these buffs fixed his stuff that should have worked in the first place? Yeah. And it's awesome. I just worry he doesn't have enough to change any of the issues he was already having.

Alex and Rashid are my two main characters but I play a little bit of Gief on the side. Really, I'm waiting for season 2 to decide on a new main.

I was watching that season 2 tournament from PSX and the Gief player did a lariat and the dude back teched. Not sure what UD was talking about now. Maybe if you do a ground lariat they can't back tech because what I saw was an anti-air lariat. gotta wait for the patch notes though.

Hopefully that's it >.>

Yeah. Can't wait for notes. I think a lot of people are in limbo waiting for season 2 notes.

I think it's more that some matchups play out very differently at different skill levels.

I don't play Balrog but I use Alex as a secondary, and I can see it being pretty similar (at least even for both characters against Guile). At lower levels it probably feels like these two can't get in on Guile at all and get dominated. The Balrog/Alex players also probably don't maximize their offense when they are in. However, at mid/high level, Guile loses because the Balrog/Alex players know how to patiently walk forward (that may sound too simple to work but it actually gets you in surprisingly quickly) and/or use their safe/plus advancing ex moves to get in. Then they beat Guile handily up close when they maximize their offense / use of buttons.
