Question How do I deal with pokers?

I've been losing so many games, due to an immense amount of people poking, spamming d1s constantly. Which really puts me off guard, and I end up losing my patience and doing something stupid.

I mostly use Erron Black in online nowadays. Because he seems to be the only char that fits well to my playstyle.

Im not the kind of guy to be exchanging pokes with my opponents, tbh. Is there a certain way of dealing with it? Because 9 times out of 10 im losing matches constantly because of it.

In an actual situation (ie offline) most pokes are negative on block and you can counterpoke to start your offense.
Online randomly gives 90+ frames of advantage or so. Yeah it's stupid.
No there is nothing you can do other than try to counterpoke and hope it works.

What if i use a grab too fast? it could easily whiff. I think errons b24 is a mid, i might use that maybe

You cant grab too fast. It will work unless they jump straight after a poke or neutral duck.

Not sure if thats what u meant

I tried reptile a few times, not a bad character, amazing setups and mixups, but i find his combos hard to perform online.

Havent tried kano yet, but i've heard some good things about him, like how he has the best backdash in the game, and i use backdashes quite alot

if u dont have a 9 or10 frame mid dont even try to counter poke with the mid, if like they to d1 d1 you can try walking back and whiffing punishing the 2nd d1 you can jump when the 1st d1 one is performed and try to tag them for mashing. or if they mash d1 d1 just counter poke back with your d1 and try to jail them with 22122 or do b3 ( the low string) if they're mashing they goign to get hit by that b3 for sure

You need one poke and one footsie with a special attack to distance yourself from the poker. I always do D1, D4xxIce Klone to distance myself from my opponent and protect myself from him. If you have a similar move for your Erron Black, just try it.

I had problems with poke for months, especially with old netcode. I just started to really pay attention how people use pokes and counterpoke. You need to be fast. If you are fighting someone who is using 2-3 pokes in a row, you will always get them by counter poking followed by a string. Example - Ermac's d3 in old netcode was a nightmare, now I just love playing against them as most of them are used to just mash pokes. If you have trouble with counterpokes or backdashing, crossover jump or armored attack is another option after blocked poke if you expect them to do it again.

In my opinion knowing when players tend to use pokes is key and block+counterpoke->string/throw works 9 out of 10 times for me, even against characters like Jason and his dumb d1.

Also knowing your own pokes is absolutely mandatory . Learn the animations and the frame data and you'll be fine in no time.

well pokes used to be an issue for me as well until you realize that most pokes in the game leave (you) at plus frames & the opponent at neg. most of the time players poke then jump or don't realize you blocked the poke & try continuing their pressure & get countered by it easily. but if you're hit by a low poke best option is to block until you see an opportunity, armor out or duck the throw if necessary. now since you use erron black best option is to counterpoke or if you see your opponent isn't checking you with another poke then go for his 21121 string (i think that's the right buttons lol)
