Match-Up Discussion - Reptile [Post Patch] Reptile MU List

Bone Shaper is possibly even at best now. Losing ex scoop is big since that was one of the major things stopping Reptile from getting forceballs on the screen at all. Dark beam is still good vs him, though. But having forceball opportunities does change a lot. Before it was a definite losing matchup, though. Shinnok as a character gives Reptile issues, though, and the right variation will put the matchup decisively in Shinnok's favor. Just don't think Bone Shaper is it, though, at least not as conclusively as the other variations are.

For bad matchups, I got Mystic/MoS Ermac, AS Tremor, Scorp, GM Sub, Mileena, and Shinnok. I think Smoke and Sektor Triborg might be problems, too, as is Possessed. I don't feel like any of them are worse than 4-6, though, even GM and Shinnok.

I do think Reptile demolishes War God, though, and current hotfix Jax. He beats non-SD Cage, too, and Goro in general. Cassie has to play Hollywood also or doesn't go even either. Erron also loses, IMO.

How does Kobu Tanya wins Reptile? She has weaker zoning. Upclose her rekka is shit, her B12+4 is punishable by your F4. Kobu is so shit that many people believe Pyro is the best variation
And Cassie is one of the few character who can easily punish some of Reptile's moves. In neutral she's better with d4 and B1, I don't think she loses

there is absolutely no chance he beats bone shaper.. you play the mu wrong man
Zoning = Trade. You Ex Slide full screen and get the adv while Shinnok NEEDS to move forward to get you with EX launcher. Once you get a hit and send him full screen you get more chip cause you can get a force ball out. He can't jump over it because you'll get a combo with spite force ball. What I mean is : Reptile wins the zoning knowing that you can slide under the projectiles or EX Slide (Flip) whenever you want. After you can say whatever you want about Shinnok jumps but force balls can be stopped, anti airs exist, D2 in not that bad. Have you ever thought you were playing the MU badly?

I probably have over 2000 games vs wound.. I'll try and record a set next time to show you. But the three main things he abuses that reptile has little or no answer to are:
Jump back 1
Back dash
Jik into f4

There's a lot more but those three really hurt him
yes, I'd be very interested in why jump ins are such a drag in that MU for Reptile as it is my secondary against my main, besides I always like me some Wound matches.

if Shinnok's jumps are so annoying for Reptile I can see that I might have never played the MU at best, as once again I very rarely jump. still when I play as Reptile itself, acid balls are usually enough to prevent people from jumping at me too much.

Man I'll answer the same thing for the Kobu Jutsu MU and the Cassie MU. Do not use your punishable moves.
Tanya variationless has moves that can punish Reptile easy fizzy for using his regular tools. His zoning is not that better (can't get a single force ball out), trades with the spite. If B12 something is punishable, do not use it. Use the spacing etc.. Tanya has better tools for it than Rep.
Cassie cage? Man, as Reptile end your pressure on block with the claw. -6 Not punishable, boom it is done ;)

Reptile's D2 EASILY anti airs Shinnok's jump punches.

It's difficult to D2 Shinnok's jump kicks on reaction in real matches, for sure. NJP those. Sure, you have to do that on a read, but what does Shinnok get? He's plus if you block it, and he gets 7% if he lands. If you make the right read with the NJP, you get a full combo into whatever you decide to end with.

Everyone in the game can make the same complaint, about Sub Zero. Top players will NJP or trip guard Sub and make him think twice about jumping. You have to adjust and use the tools that are given. A match up isn't bad because a situation doesn't play out the way that you want it to.

I know it's popular in this community to complain if your standing 1 can't anti air everything in the game. I just don't understand how people are still not adapting after a year and a half.

Lol go play cowboy and then you'll realize.. I mop up every ther shinnok. But he actually plays it right. The question to you is have you even played a worthwhile shinnok

The main probablem is that the game is shitty and for some reason, they made jiks plus on block. And shinnok really shines with his 7frams low.. It's dumb

can't argue with that. both jump attacks and jumps themselves are insane in this game, I mean while on the ground just combat role and njp is a valid wakeup for a good number of characters. it really makes no sense.

I play Cowboy almost every other night.

You're not right because you say "go play this guy". Reptile's NJP will consistently beat Shinnok's jump kick. It just is what it is.

Condescending points like "go play this guy", or "I play this guy", or whatever, should never be used on this site.

Obviously some people post and don't know what they're talking about. In those cases maybe being a little condescending isn't that out of line. However, you can't be correct by making some empty statement that mentions a top player.

I play Hayatei and have beaten him in an offline tournament. That doesn't mean that I don't have to explain myself when I say something about Ronin, for it to be taken seriously. Just because you play Cowboy, doesn't mean that your opinion about the match up is fullproof. You clearly haven't explored all of your options.

Goldenjew used to always do this in the Kung Lao forum. Any time someone brought up Kung Lao vs Kitana, he'd say something like "well I play Kitanaprime so what I think is correct".

I understand that I may have done this in the past, but I feel like in this case and others, people use top player's names to back up their point, that they don't have much evidence to back up. Shinnok's jump kick is not some unstoppable force vs Reptile. You make a read with an NJP, you get a full combo. Sorry you can't react and punish his move that deals 7% and leaves him a little plus on block.

My man, I do not doubt of your Skill or whatever but I think we can all agree on this : I "know" WoundCowboy, he is known as the best Shinnok. If he's a top player it means he adapts to gameplans and he doesn't use useless moves (punishable or whatever you want). I do not know you, never seen you play, only thing I doubt about is the way you play Reptile or the way you play the MU. No offense man but if I'm a bad prepatch player as GrandMaster I would not say that prepatch GM vs fisticuff is a 3-7 or a 4-6 just because I lose.
What I mean is. Grab a paper : Write down the tools according to the situations and man... No doubt that you can even think after that "this is a 5-5 maybe even a 6-4 for Rep".

Men, it costs me to agree with Tweedy (joking). I'm Ok to say "WoundCowboy" "SonicFox" FoxyGrampa" "Scar" but you have to understand that they're not good because of a character but because they know/react/dare/respect. They play the game the way it meant to be played, they use the right tools during the MUs (in general) and they also adapt/react well during their games (Man I've seen Foxy adapting after one round!!) and more important they change their gameplans while they play. So I'm Ok to say their name in order to say "see the way it has to be used" but I'm not Ok when it is about "He does that and works on me so it is a thing". You can reptilian dash the jump ins and crossups by the way ;)

spit does more damage than her projectile and she can't teleport it on reaction
You may not know but Kobu was nerfed into shit. No footsie tool outside of B1 (not B12+4, just B1) which is very hard to hit confirm and leads to shit damage. No zoning, no oki, no pressure. Cassie is a much better character than Tanya on all aspect, she even has safe mixups and good damage upclose. I don't think Kobu Tanya has any winning matchup

Loooool B1, a Footsie tool??? Man when you've got 2 special that hit mid screen (overhead/low) when one of them make you low profil, when your teleport allows you to get pressure move forward or back and you can zone, you're saying B1 a footsie tool??? (B3 has a good range, F2 is a good footsie tool to quote you)
You can teleport on reaction to the force balls, duck the spite, you can even do the teleport and stay down to duck it and build meter man, you can EX your projectile. Grab a paper ;)
Saying that cassie is a better character is a lost cause man. Not the same tools, not the same MUs. She might be a better character overall but not vs Rep.

Well said. But, are you talking to a specific person?

From my foggy experience, max height d2 should be beating Shinnok jump ins period. Hard to get on pure reaction, but Reptile ain't shit outta luck vs them, honestly. And like Tweedy said, he can NJP on a read.

BS also has to deal with the fact that he can't just sit full screen and trade. Reptile is eventually going to EX slide it and at the very minimum he gets a forceball out, which changes the projectile game significantly. EDIT: Actually, Reptile can simply read pounce it or reaction EX pounce and get the knockdown to set something up.

Vs Cassie you should never be using normal claw anyway, or even be that close to her to begin with. If you do have to use a string into special, use pounce. Pushback is enough to prevent punishment. Tanya overall is weaker in a lot of aspects that affect the matchup, so the things that give her advantages still only really serve to keep it even.

Yes you can because you can't base a mu by playing someone who does not use the character to its full potential. Why the hell would you base the mu any other way. And btw I find it hilarious knowing you don't play either character. And njp his jump kick,, lol are you serious Thsts the dumbest thing I've heard.. Cmon

Play a set vs cowboy please and I want to see you njp his jump in kicks.. Hell, play a set vs me.. You won't njp once guaranteed.. I can't believe you're actually agreeing with that. That solution is laughable

And my point about cowboy is this: I feel like In order to judge a mu, you have to use the player that best represents that character.. Cowboy is not only the best shinnok, but j guarantee knows the reptile mu the best by far. Now I'm not going on to say I'm the best reptile, but you have to use the best player who knows the mu the best or else you'll just be theory fighting

I see where you're coming from. Not really maining the character does not mean they don't know some of the MUs. Logical explanations help. But yeah, I usually don't trust some random people who only put out: "That's wrong"

Yes I have to change it. I have not played Kotal at all this patch. Just guessed based on very unclear evidence
