I've been playing nothing but Butcher these last couple of weeks and I've come to a conclusion that he doesn't have any dirty stuff to compete with the top tiers. If he had something like less recovery on his CG or less push back, that could change things because he's all 50/50, nothing more.

Honestly, you're better off with Killer, maybe pocket Pretty Lady as well. 50/50s are good for Butcher, but like u said... that's it. Df2 and 2,2 are +2, so u can mix that into your pressure with Butcher. Good luck!

I'll still play Butcher because...well that's my thing, i've ALWAYS been the Butcher guy around here really but yea, Butcher has 2 things. The mix and high meterless damage. These can win you matches for sure (and will win them very quickly depending on the opponent's guesses.) but Killer has the following

  • One of the best mids in the game with Stance->1
  • Fantastic space control with B2/D4/BS1/F12
  • Some of the best staggers in the current meta (BS1 delays are disgusting sometimes)
  • Decent armor
  • FANTASTIC meter build since his main footsie tool is a special (again BS1)
  • ABSURD AMOUNTS OF DAMAGE (49% two bar midscreen, 47% one bar corner, disgusting)
  • and finally, BS1 just does everything. It anti-airs, it staggers, it whiff punishes, it builds meter, it beats most buttons in the game. It's a godlike button.
Butcher has NONE of this. He has good meterless damage, his space control is only ok, his staggers are basically non-existent and he has gaps everywhere (and not in the good way like Killer does) I love Butcher but he's B tier for sure. He's not bad, it's just that Killer is so much better.

Good stuff, I like your use of EX DB3 in the matchup. Somethings i'd like to touch on is one, you have to stay on top of GM. On knockdown you basically stay right next to him so that his ONLY option is EX Slide. Do not let him be far enough from you on wakeup so he can wakeup klone. If you're scouting for EX Slide on wakeup, don't neutral jump just block, it's overall a much better option (I saw you neutral jump it a few times on a read and it could have been much worse than what happened) Also, you might have wanted to do some more reset shenanigans with sparks. All in all it's a pretty good example of what to do on the Butcher side but a little less so on the GM side. Not to insult the GM player but there was some non-optimal stuff and he didn't abuse klone nearly as much as he could of. Good set tho!

I highly doubt a Kitana will react to chainsaws with that slow reflect. Thats more of a read. If they start reflecting, that means you are free to just run in more often. :)

And honestly you might not even need insta airs. Maybe just straight, up, and full jump downward chainsaws on occasion.

I've played the MU, Pretty Lady doesn't help a ton considering his normal combos also just straight up whiff on her plus up close she's just better in almost every way.
