Is the PS4 d-pad better than Xbox One's for Mortal Kombat?

100% personal preference obviously... but hooooooly shit the DS4 is the only controller to ever damage my hands. The long handles on the DS4 gives me pain in my ring finger and little finger, and also my thumb over the dpad. Had to take a long break after a while and even considered building a hitbox. Hori FGV solved all of this, bigger face buttons and using buttons for L2/R2 is a bonus.
This one is a funny story I heard, for when I touch my DS4, I always have my hands wet, so before touching them for FGs I go to the bathroom to wash them with shampoo. Helps a lot to force them be dry.

The 360 pad isn't ideal or anything, but I find it pretty solid. Hell, it even improves once it gets worn in.
360 Dpads are the worst Dpads in the history of controllers, ive gone through 8 controllers because the Dpads would eventually get too loose and just give straight up wrong inputs, from selecting wrong weapons in gears to getting randome crouches in MK9, i never want to go through that shit again

Brady has found an issue with the PS4 controller where I think a grab comes out when you press a button? Something like that I don't remember. Reo says the pad is so bad he has to buy a new controller every couple months
You probably mean the X+Square. This is the button input for the Grab. If you press them too fast, they will be linked, and thus the Grab command in there.

Hello,

I have had Xbox One since December last year, and I am going to be getting a PS4 this christmas.
I have no knowledge about the PS4 controller whatsoever, but the thing that I'm more concerned about is their d-pads, Because I'm more less focused on fighting games, such as Mortal Kombat and Injustice, and I only use d-pads for those games.

I have no issues at all using the d-pads on Xbox One, they are actually pretty good d-pads, but if I'm getting a PS4 this Christmas, I'll need some of your guys' opinions about the PS4 d-pads, like if its good with Mortal Kombat online gaming.

Hope you can help, thank you.
Preference. The xbox controller makes me vomit but others prefer it

I prefer the PS4 d-pad because of where it's located on the controller, it feels better to me. I have a Horipad FPS Plus but I can't really get adjusted to its d-pad.

PS4 pad is a little bit better than the XB1 pad, but the XB1 pad is not as horrible as the 360 one, that was not even ment to be used for fighting games, they improved alot with the XB1 but still the ps4 is better, it has better shape for the hands and the Dpad has a better position.

The PS4 pad is light years better than the xb1 pad. The xb1 pad is total trash. Almost no one prefers the xb1 pad.

Get an arcade stick. Learn it...never look back. You will thank me for this advice in the future. Pads were never meant for fighting games...period.

I heard from another thread that some HORI models do have their own problems. I'm waiting for the perfect one that could stay stable and active for a longer time.
I know the model before mine Hori FC4 has known problems due to the rotational D pad. I Have the one after that. The Hori FC. Brought two and they feel leaps better then the stock controllers.

Not at all. The ps4 pad uses one big piece of plastic so BF inputs will cause you to jump often. Xbone has the superior Dpad imo. It is alot harder to accidentally push up or down when trying to do BF inputs. I think Pig even had a thread about how garbage the ps4 pad is. ps2/3 pads are still the best tho, if you can get a converter
Weird, haven't had any difficulties with bf motions except when cancelling from low-pokes, my biggest issue with the ds4 are the trigger buttons break often and don't register x-ray inputs.

I see. I'd love to buy one and try this out just to see if it fits well for me.

Both are butt. Go FC4. If you wanna use it on XB1, pick up a Brook Converter too.

Don't listen to any of these jackasses who act like there's only one right answer. It all comes down to personal preference, just like with sticks vs pads. What I can say for sure, though, is that the PS4 seems to have better converter-less, alternative fightpad options.

I've owned quite a few fightpads in my day and have a preference for 6-button ones, though not as vehemently for MK/Injustice as SF/Marvel. My latest acquisition was the Hori FC, which was pretty cheap at just $40 on Amazon, and I'm definitely a fan so far except for the fact that I wish the sides came down a bit further to give me more to grip. I know the FC4 has exactly that going for it so I might have been better off with that one, but I heard their were rotating dpad issues and I'm sure I'll get used to the way this one fits my hand soon enough anyway.

Before that for about two weeks I had what was ALLEGEDLY supposed to be the new Madcatz SFV pad with the FIXED d-pad, and as aesthetically dope as it was, diagonal up-forward just stopped working. So that's a pass on that shit, which is a shame because Madcatz actually finally got it right before that with - of all pads believe it or not - their WWE Brawlpads. That was my go-to for injustice on my 360 and still a contender for my all time favorite.

I've also got an Elite controller on the XB1 and it honestly isn't that much of an improvement over the standard controller at all for fighters, but the standard pad isn't too horrible either for MK. It still left me wanting more though and without a converter I just don't think I'd find it on XB1.

TL;DR: See how the DS4 feels and know you've got options if you don't like it. Hori pads seem like the way to go if you're planning on playing SF too or any other games that favor a 6 button layout, though.

Personally I prefer Dualshock 4, but that may be because I'm just more used to it (and honestly there isn't that much difference). D-pads in general I find to be poor for fighting games. For NRS games D-pad is fine, but I find it super fucking difficult with Street Fighter. Street Fighter almost requires a stick or hitbox imo.

Eventually I'll probably graduate to a Hitbox since it's objectively the best.

And regarding the analog sticks on Dualshock 4, they are short with less range of motion than the Dualshock 3 (which had very good sticks), but the Xbox One sticks are also short. Kontrol Freeks are amazing and anyone who plays any game with sticks should have a pair or two. But I don't know why you would use them in a fighting game.
