What's new

Hi!

1. Anything that seems difficult KEEP PRACTICING it'll get easier trust me. Don't give up

2. Yes pick a character you think is awesome or feels good to you

3. Get to know the community as much as possible to learn from multiple people and get experience from people with different characters and play styles

4. I suggest looking into Ketchup and Mustards channel. They have a 5 video series I believe? Called from casual to competitive. They go over frame data and picking a character and all that good stuff
This should be in every "hi I'm new to the game, how do I level up?" Thread there is

I do have some experience with Kotal Khan, in his War God variation, but I have problems completing the f1b2, df2 string in the middle of a kombo sometimes, guess i'll have to practice that.

And i've heard some pretty good things about Kotal Khan, it's like a guessing game with him.

I've played cryo Sub before, but kinda forgotten about him after KP2.
Grandmaster sub has extreme corner pressure. He might be a good variation to work with.

Thanks for the help!
Completing these strings is a matter of practice. If you practice, your muscle memory will store them in, and then it'll be pretty easy for you to use. The hardest are some of the strings from a selected few characters, like Raiden's LRC (DB1(Hold 1)xxRUN) and Jaqui's Stanky Leg (4U4).

If you check Tekken Master VS Sonic Fox Grand Finals in EVO, you'll understand why he's a guessing game. Tekken Master is a Kotal Khan mainer.

I happen to be a Grandmaster Sub Zero mainer here. If you need any help with him, hop on to Sub Zero's forums for any tips. If you like Sub Zero so much, check on Tom Brady and Madzin match ups. ;)

Glad I helped a lot.

1:Very helpful, I'll remember that

2: Okay, perhaps Jason, Leatherface or any other character i know how to play might fit.

3: Will do, thanks.

4: Yeah that's how I learned Sektor in the first place. They're very good players. Felt like learning a bit of Cyrax but I can't time his bomb combos correctly. And he can't do a whole lot of damage, you could get 40 hits into a 30% combo ;-;

Why yes I am Irish and my Cage is quite Godlike!

Since you established that you are already in your path to greatness.

Iwhere about you from?
No need to worry about @1man3letters since I forced him to retire so who is this man and them 3 Letters you Ask? It'd RIP. Also don't worry about @Canapper he got that name because his Shinnok was so boring to play you always question "Can I Nap?but unfortunately you could not or you would lose :(

Any question let me know bro.
:p

I'm based in Dublin, but travel up and down to Kerry occasionally. You?

Any other characters you play? :D

Damn, i'll try not to, maybe i should then do b3 1+3. To apply a bit of pressure maybe?
Don't listen to him it's ok to mash d1 even sonicfox said so in his jason tutorial. Just be smart about it. B3xxgrab is good but u also need to mix it up with b3d2, b3u2, b12, f3 depending on the situation. Virtually every launcher combo u should end with dd3 and then do the okizeme of your choice

Yeah they nerfed him lol. New balance patch comes Tuesday so he might get buffed. Also I suggest sticking to a character or two till you really get the hang of the game. Late into the game I finally stuck to Kotal for a while and really started to pick the game up better. Because you learn the ins and outs of the character and you can focus on fundamentals instead of learning how each characters works

Hello,

I recently found this forum website, based around all sorts of fighting games, which I'm a really big fan of. Particularly MK X and Injustice.

I've been playing Mortal Kombat X since January 2016, and bought Injustice about 2 months ago, and am planning to get Injustice 2 next year. Right now I'm looking for a character to declare as my main, because right now, I'm just wandering from character to character.

The ones I do know how to play with are Leatherface(killer), Sektor, Sonya Blade(demo), and Erron Black (gunslinger). And just recently learned nimble Reptile and unstoppable Jason.

I struggle with some of these characters, like how I cannot perform chainsaw cancels unless I spam 3. And how I'm bad with mixups using Sonya.

If anyone could recommend any characters that could fit my playstyle, I'd very much appreciate that.

Thanks.
Welcome here sire. By picking a character, from my experience at least, It's to start choosing one who you like as a character. It could be the looks or the badassery or something that stands out. I would advise trying ALL the characters you find interest in. After that, find out which one you enjoy the most, or which suits you best. Don't be overwhelmed if a character requires execution. Just post on discussion/character forums and many will try to help you out. Take me for example. I am a Reptile loyalist because he is my favorite MK character. I also enjoy making guides on TYM for the character to boost our community. Enjoy your stay ;)

@D7X is right on this. If someone is your fav char, start with him. I started with my fav Ice Ninja, Sub Zero. Then on to Alien Tarkatan, and then finally to both Thunder God Raiden and Unbreakable Sub Zero. When you get used with your first starting character, then pick another one. To have a good competitive style, you'll need to know at least 2 characters.

Leatherface, Kabal(but he aint in mk x and i swear to god if hes not in kp3...) And I'm starting to enjoy Sub Zero now too.

And i totally agree with ya.
I've learned about 5 characters. Which is a bit of a handful, I guess i'm gonna have to keep it simple. Because i dont want to learn too many until I've mastered the ones I have.

First off, Welcome.
It's always great to see some fresh meat, what with all the people permanently quitting the game (and then back in a month)
This community is a strange one, do not get disheartened!

As for a main, I say try everyone and see for yourself.
Not feeling comfortable on the controller or the arcade stick is momentary. When you learn a new thing - be that driving a car or using a new tool, it's always awkward at first. Focus on getting comfortable and being able to do basic stuff with every character. Eventually one or two will grow on you.

The hardest part of learning is the wait to become experienced.

Thx i'll keep that in mind.

Btw, is Butcher Leatherface's vortex still possible?
It's not as good but kind of. If you jump in punch then delay the mixup it'll jail so like overhead into BD4 crossover punch delay slightly then you mix and same with the low.

Also, since you're a Grandmaster Sub Zero main, I'd like to ask a few questions.
First of all, I must say, Grandmaster is such a FUN variation!

I've been practicing some Grandmaster combos against the AI earlier today, and I've been having one issue with it. I cannot catch the opponent mid-air with an ice klone in the corner, it just looks like im leaping backwards with no ice klone in front of me. Any solutions?

This is a known issue with the Ice Klone whiff. This is something I HATE the most, believe me. You'll have to catch the AI at the height where the B12 hands are and lower to freeze him spot on. The D1 helps to adjust the height to catch the AI with B12xxIK (Ice Klone). From the height of Sub Zero's head till his hands' height Sub Zero will whiff. Try doing the 11xxIK (above Sub Zero's head) and the B12xxIK (from there and below Sub Zero's hands) to make this able. This gap between the head and the hands is the problem. Good luck. With some practice you'll get used to it. Check Buffalo's and Madzin's MUs to see what do I mean. Buffalo always does 11xxIK, and Madzin always does B12xxIK, in their corner combos.
