What's new

Hi!

Oonaugh

You. Are. Disposable.
Hello,

I recently found this forum website, based around all sorts of fighting games, which I'm a really big fan of. Particularly MK X and Injustice.

I've been playing Mortal Kombat X since January 2016, and bought Injustice about 2 months ago, and am planning to get Injustice 2 next year. Right now I'm looking for a character to declare as my main, because right now, I'm just wandering from character to character.

The ones I do know how to play with are Leatherface(killer), Sektor, Sonya Blade(demo), and Erron Black (gunslinger). And just recently learned nimble Reptile and unstoppable Jason.

I struggle with some of these characters, like how I cannot perform chainsaw cancels unless I spam 3. And how I'm bad with mixups using Sonya.

If anyone could recommend any characters that could fit my playstyle, I'd very much appreciate that.

Thanks.

Starting out, the most important thing is finding a character you love to use or the lore of it. When learning the game, it's best to learn with a character you have the most fun using because when you lose its not as big of a deal, you're just having fun.

So find a character you love and stick with them for some time! You'll learn matchups, what works, and what doesn't in time.

And welcome!

Hello, and welcome to the TYM.

It seems that you have a character complex, thus in lack of finding a good character that would fit you. Judging by your criteria, I would think of Sub Zero, Kotal Khan and Alien.

You say that you're not good with mixing and cancels. You can fix it by labbing on any character. When I mean labbing, I mean to practice with them, watching the character guide videos, learning their combos, and vice versa. When you learn his weaknesses and advantages, go to the online rankings to learn his MUs (Match Ups) against other characters. There are good and bad MUs.

What I mean good MU is when your character has an advantage against another character. This is what you want experience for.

Note that ALL of the characters do have a lot of mixups. This is the strongest part of this game, because of the mind game involving in there. The more you play there, the more you'll understand what do we mean.

Enjoy. ;)

If you decide to stick with Leatherface welcome to the Leatherrealm. I can help with basically any questions you have on our cannibal hillbilly. But be sure you want to play him before you deticate yourself to that, he's not easy and he's not super good right now. After patch that might change but right now it's a decent struggle. I can help with Jason too but Leatherface is something I know a lot more than most people...as he isn't played by a lot of people...

Welcome! Where are you from? Are you on PS4/Xbox One/PC? Also your problem with Killer may be that you're doing the wrong cancel, instead of doing Berserker Stance~3 input Berserker Stance~4~3 instead. It's much faster (if that is the problem anyway).

Maybe pick up low execution (but still good) characters like Kotal Kahn and work your way up from there? Kenshi, Cybernetic Kano, Slasher Jason, Butcher and many more are all really easy characters to pick up and play.
If you want a full on cheese but top tier character then Alien's great, CT Kano requires more work but is still pretty easy.

Butcher is decent-ish to pick up and play. He's a lot harder than he looks on the surface and Cybernetic Kano isnt at all a pick up and play. He requires so much thought and understanding of the game to get into.

True, both are really easy in terms of execution though.

I completely agree.
The characters that I'm having fun with is unstoppable Jason and Erron Black so far, might work a little more with Jason tbh

Thanks for the info!

I do have some experience with Kotal Khan, in his War God variation, but I have problems completing the f1b2, df2 string in the middle of a kombo sometimes, guess i'll have to practice that.

And i've heard some pretty good things about Kotal Khan, it's like a guessing game with him.

I've played cryo Sub before, but kinda forgotten about him after KP2.
Grandmaster sub has extreme corner pressure. He might be a good variation to work with.

Thanks for the help!

Jason is pretty fun. Be sure not to fall into the scrubby habit of mashing D1 out of everything, you'll be crucified in this community cuz Jason has like the best D1 in the game.

Ik yeah, its crazy that his d1 can break armour while his damage buff is active lol.

It's also only -2 on block which means another d1 after that is only 8f which is quick for a sequential press of a button on block. It catches a lot of people and while you should use his definitely strong D1, don't just mash it, it's a bad habit.

To be honest, Leatherface was the first character I picked up out of the whole lot. I had high hopes for him. I'm pretty decent with him, but he can have his moments..

Damn, i'll try not to, maybe i should then do b3 1+3. To apply a bit of pressure maybe?

Lemme guess you have the pressure going, the opponent is blocking but then that moment you go for your best button (F1) they do a low poke and everything tumbles and falls. Or you decided to jump and you get anti aired super hard because your jump ins are ass and your jump is floaty. OR you get jumped in on and can't anti air because your only anti air requires you to be back pedaling when they jump (BD4 could he great if it was just a bit faster.)

Thanks! I live in Ireland and my Xbox One gamertag is Oonaugh (thinking of getting a PS4 this Christmas idk)

I do input berserker stance~4~3, its just that the buttons sometimes dont register, probably because I'm mashing it..

If the D1 lands, absolutely go for B3 pressure. If they block it be sure to try and figure out what they're usually reaction is afterwards. If they go for a move slower than 11f, B3 is perfect afterwards.

Yea you can't be mashing the stance cancels, be sure to just practice it until you get it down pat and you don't even feel the need to mash anymore.

Yeah. F1 is a high, and I usually start out with f12, Berserker stance into 1 and meter burn it, and my combo begins.

Most of my matches end up with me beginning with f1, and they start doing a d4 lol.

If you think they're going to low poke at the start of the match, do raw BD4/ it's risky but the payoff can be REAL good.

1. Anything that seems difficult KEEP PRACTICING it'll get easier trust me. Don't give up

2. Yes pick a character you think is awesome or feels good to you

3. Get to know the community as much as possible to learn from multiple people and get experience from people with different characters and play styles

4. I suggest looking into Ketchup and Mustards channel. They have a 5 video series I believe? Called from casual to competitive. They go over frame data and picking a character and all that good stuff
