Discussion if sonic fox commited to a single main...

would it make him stronger or weaker? and who would/should it be?

im talking about 1 char but up to all his variations.

Input from @SonicFox5000 himself would be very appreciated :D

i personally would like to see him as a tanya or cassie main, or even alien... but i also think it would make him weaker as he manages to be the best of multiple characters, but sometimes struggles when he tries to stick to one (like cassie or erron) during a tournament.

Being unpredictable is always an advantage imo. And also having multiple characters to choose from for better matchups is also good.
not sure, im a fan of knowing every bit and matchup with one char. but if you can "master" multiple in that way, its surely better. normally you really have to think about the succes chances of being "perfect" with one char verus multiple "not so perfect" chars, but who instead cover each others bad matchups.

Well look at dragon he plays almost only tarkatan and does very well all the time.

I think with sonic this would be the same case

If he would pick Alien(in his current state) he would win all the time.

But picking other character would make it more possible for him to lose. Let's not forget that the main reason why somebody plays multiple characters is to cover all match-ups for his advantage(or at least 5:5).

God Confirm

We're all from Earthrealm. If not, cool pic brah.
Every character he plays gets nerfed harder and harder the longer he plays them. So it would probably make him do worse if he committed to one

Some characters can't really win alone for X and Y reasons.

SonicFox picks who he thinks is right for the matchup, but he plays multiple characters so he never HAS to pick into a bad match.

I suppose you could say he may have struggled at times like any other top player if he bumped into a matchup his main didn't favor, but it is undeniable that his ability to switch and maintain the edge at all times is why is the world champ.

Kinda feel like it's a moot point, If Fox played exclusively one character I assume he'd have the same struggles that other top level players have.

That said, he was smart enough to realize early on that this game would be heavily favored towards counterpicking, which is what he's done for most of the games life and his success obviously speaks for itself.

So yeah, maybe he'd struggle? Maybe not, doesn't really matter as he's been collecting that $$$ by playing the right characters at the right time, so kudos to him.

Tarkatan and Alien in general is a really horrible match for Kotal Khan, but War God vs Acidic specifically is very winnable for War God. Sonic got wrecked by Pnut in that match up in winner's at Final Round. Gunslinger is a much better pick. Cassie also struggles vs War God.

Who knows what would have happened if he used Acidic, Erron or Cassie vs Hayatei at EVO? Jason is a really hard match up for Takeda.

Remember when Sonic went down 0-2 vs Scar with Alien, switched to Gunslinger and ran it back, at CEO? Gunslinger is a tricky match for Sonya.

Would Sonic beat Dragon every time with Cassie or Erron? Does he need Alien in that match? Who knows.

All we know is that he plays to the match up and is very successful. We also know that he is very unsuccessful vs War God without Gunslinger. Besides those two things it's all speculation, really.

SonicFox plays characters that covers all the matchups in the game, like Ketchup and Mustard said. But it's not like he didn't wreck everyone playing Erron almost exclusively during the 1st year of the game's life.

I think being able to pull out weird characters that nobody has played against like Naginata Tanya and Unstoppable Jason is a really powerful thing. Unstoppable Jason, as good as he is may as well have been a completely new KP2 character because he was probably the worst character in the game pre XL. I consider Unstoppable Jason the best KP2 character other than Alien and hardly anybody uses him which makes him really... Unstoppable:DOGE

If Jason was super popular, Takeda would not be in anyone's top 5 list.

Takeda's fear him like Quan's fear Takeda.

I dont have either one in my top 5 but I think Takeda is still more dominant. I think Jason is easily a top ten contender and other than the usual top 8 characters everyone seems to agree on, I think Jason can be shuffled around the 9 and 10 spots.

Funny how a matchup that should be terrible pre patch turned out like this

I have Takeda higher than Jason for sure. That match up specifically is just really tough for Takeda.

Not quite true. You could argue that Fox struggled the most in tournament during that period he only used Erron. When DJT and co were insane competition for him.

Now it doesn't seem as ludicrous because when he needs to, he's able to pick alien. Or one of his other characters he believes wins that matchup.

Sonic is a phenomenal player, and part of that is that he doesn't ever have to play a bad MU if he doesn't want to, as the condiment brothers said. Sticking with one character means you're accepting disadvantage MUs, and that's honestly just silly from a competitive standpoint.

So yeah. I think he would do slightly worse if he stuck to one, but he's still a great player, and it's not like it would be all that bad for him.

One thing to point out is that in tournament, he will NEVER troll pick, even if he says that he is.

He will always use a character because he believes that character is the right pick at the time.

Jason vs Saltface: picked because of jasons advancing mids.
Shotgun Mirrors: he never loses the jacqui mirror, making that the right pick against jaqcui players.

etc etc

dont you think that was more because of the super-good training ground yomi was? i mean, his dominance has increased to injustice level again only since yomi is "gone".
