Street Fighter V General Discussion

Scott The Scot

Where there is smoke, there is cancer.
Thanks Buya, I'm always glad to point some fellow members in the right direction when needed.

@super mario my man, take a look at these. Don't binge watch these - this ain't netflix. This is tutorials. And your goal here is to be a sponge and suck up all of the information from these videos and be a conscious learner when you're in a match or training mode.

Basic fundamentals. Even if you know what's in this video, please watch it anyway because there might be a nugget of information that helps you learn and it's always good to reinforce the foundation that all of your fighting game knowledge will be based upon.

The following videos I'm linking are a 3-part series from the same guy, Gootecks. They all focus on specfic parts of the game. The game in its simplest form. Offence and defence - with the additional video on throws specifically because that's something that is quite important and needs extra attention so that you're very aware of what happens in a real match.

Take your time and don't feel stupid if you need to rewatch it. Chances are you'll miss a lot if you only watch it once.

Enjoy, and happy street fighter-ing! :)

Normalize grab immunity.
Wow just cause he dabbles with birdie hes a beginner?! >[ lololool
Touching birdie doesn't make you a beginner. It makes you a scumbag.

nah this is not my first fighter just the only one im good at but i like other fighters like of king of fighters and tekken

im glad im your boy man it feels good buy.
Good to hear you like KoF and Tekken. I think it'd do you some good to see done beginner videos since you're asking about resets and how to approach.

And if you're into fighting games you're cool with me. Just don't be an ass and we cool.

i find that easier then just walking foward and blocking imo but if u have any other suggesting for advancing in on your opponent while covering ground then im all for it.
That is fine if you find that easier, it just leaves you more exposed and prone to getting counter hit. I use Gief so inching my way in comes with the territory.

Used to love SF back in the days of arcade, even dabbled with SF4 a little, extremely casual.

If I strictly play MKX, is this game much of a learning curve to adapt? I'm looking at getting it for PS4.
P.S. My fav SF character ever is that little green ogre thing, but he's not in this game, WTF???!!!???

Time is no factor, you lose maybe 5% health to blocked fireballs and they are now backed in to the corner and cant do shit.

Alternatively pick karin or nash and play to your skill plateau using special moves to get in from full screen, then learn the hard way why walking and blocking is king.
as a Ryu player I can assure you that using nashs moonsault to get in is suicide if the game isn't running on a connection powered by steam and potatoes. Karin as well.

The biggest difference between high level karins, nashs, Vegas, necallis, everyone. Is how little they use moves like rassenha, tatsu, wall dive, moonsault, whatever the hell necallis stupid charge is named, to get in. They respect that those moves are punishable on reaction and aren't really viable options in most situations.

honestly the game isn't difficult to learn if you've already got decent execution and an understanding of fundamental fighting game concepts. There will be an adjustment period though because it's got different mechanics and has different things that are good/bad.

Blanka. God I hate that character. But he'll be in eventually. Doesn't feel like SF not having to fight against him, sagat, and akuma.

Thanks for the reply man!
Will definitely check it out, and lol at Blanka, jumping around everywhere like a maniac, he was so fun to play on arcade.

I also like Bison, but I'm of the understanding he's low tier in this game???

the low tiers in this game are still viable. There's nothing even close to a kenshi or unbreakable sub in sfv.

If you've got a mic I wouldn't mind running sets and giving some basic advice when you get it.

I can't speak for the highest level since I only play Downfourality and Praetor, but I find the game to be overall slower than KI and MKX. Anti-airing in SFV makes anti-airing in MKX feel like training with weights.
The movement is faster but im talking about the hits and teching.

When we play what's happening doesn't seem like it's your reactions failing you. It seems like you just don't know what to do. Holding back all the way to the corner and doing booms in a rhythym mixed with telegraphed FK charges isn't a good strategy. Learn frametraps, baits, shimmies, how tech a throw, combos - there's so many pieces to the puzzle missing before you get to your reactions.
Rhythym mixed? The characters you play with the exception of Guile have good rushdown. Once you get in it its hard for me to do anything.

Mostly the reaction thing im talking about is teching throws and cross ups. I have yet to tech a single throw in this game even when i knew it was coming and tried. The throw happens so fast i cant tech it.

With cross ups by the time i see the jump an FK or crHP they're to far and my AA's whiff most of the time. Thats why i asked about autocorrecting FK.

im gonna agree with shazz. The thing that sticks out most when I play vs you compared to other guiles is how freely you give me space. You walk back and boom a lot when you could be challenging me with normals. Guile has a good ground game outside of just booms.

As for auto correct flash kicks I don't think that's a viable option to rely on. Either try to crouch walk under and cross cut them, dash under, jump back jab/air throw, or block if you weren't expecting it.

Thats exactly what i mean, if you are playing like a scrub you are going to hit your skill plateau pretty quickly. You can only get so far if you are gonna write off blocking in neutral.
