Memorable but Terrible Tournament-Going Experiences

Then i somehow survived through @Smarrgasm 's extreme snoring. I swear i could feel that shit......but that's pretty much the negatives...i hate long car rides.

I didn't do well in the tournament but did finally get to play with people i never got to play with before. I either got bodied or did really well against them. Also seeing @RM Cossner body Fly with green arrow was pretty funny.

I did pretty decent in the team tournament too....even got my face as the thumbnail on the video, shout outs to @Digit!

Gonna try to travel more for inj2 but those are more on the side if anything haha

Well I have kind of an amusing tale (bout the only one that could be considered truly "memorable" that involved a problem or sorts). In 2010 I travelled with SMP, @Blackula and @Tom Brady to MLG Raleigh I believe. This was around the time they were running Tekken 6 and MK9 I think.

So we get to the hotel. I think it was Thursday Night. Everything goes ok, all the way until Saturday night when we return after that days events. The key to our room doesn't work. So SMP and Blackula decide to go to the front desk since we all assumed the key got de-magnetized at that point. Tom and myself are waiting in front of our door for them to get back.......for 10 minutes. We opted to go find out what the hell was going on and when we get there...we see all of our belongings in trash bags behind the counter.
Turns out the reason the hotel was so cheap for the weekend was because somehow or another Blackula reserved it for two nights and not 3. Essentially they "kicked us out" when we weren't even there.

So we all chip in for one final night and they give us the last vacancy they have left. We get the key....go to the room and realize there are a few problems. First off we thought we invaded someone's room. A natural hesitant reaction since the bed was not made and there was half eaten chinese food on the nightstand. We were told however that it was indeed vacant and had been "cleaned" (clearly it wasn't).

At this point there was another "issue" which was made worse since there were 4 of us and I happened to catch the final part of Tom's rant on my camera (and was highly amused at the last hour of problem). This issue can be seen in said video....





Definitely memorable but funny to me till this day. As such "Dammit Blackula has become somewhat of a sova meme since then. Most of the people we met afterwards don't know where it originated but it's from this incident.

On top of all that we got ALL of our stuff back...............except the food and snacks we had in the room and in the fridge. We are 100% sure they ate the sealed box of poptarts blackula bought

Heading into Philly via Greyhound for Summer Jam 2011, we have a TV playing the news, when I happen to notice they're talking about a hurricane. Guess where the hurricane is headed? THAT'S RIGHT EAST COAST MOTHERFUCKERS.

Thankfully I made it before it hit landfall, and the tournament was great. Stayed to play casuals until my bus was scheduled to leave. Get dropped off at the Greyhound...seems they didn't even warn us they'd be shutting down cuz of the hurricane. So I call AC1984 to come back, but no answer...it was 5 in the morning so he was likely sleeping. So now I'm stranded on the streets of Philly, sleep deprived and cold due to me having only shorts and no jacket. For 3 hours. Greyhound station finally opens and an hour later I get on my bus. Well, halfway back to Pittsburgh, the bus breaks down in a random rural town for an hour. Great. Finally get to Pittsburgh...my scheduled transfer to Youngstown left without me. So I'm stuck an hour from home until possibly the next day. Thankfully it was only an hour away from home. My (now pissed) fiancée picks me up. Man, some shit, I tell ya. Worth it, though.

I once drove to a tournament right after getting off the night shift (7:00am) when I was about 18. I drove 6 hours with no sleep and downed like 5 monsters just to stay awake. Could not focus the whole time and the tournament was so poorly ran. Everything was awful, but I met my boo @JDM so all is forgiven ;)

I don't remember what the name of the tournament was but it was in the middle of Nowheresville, PA. A group of my friends crammed into my little Scion and drove the 4ish hours to it. This was in 2009 I believe, several months after SC4 released.

We entered into a rinky-dink SC4 tournament and I got to GFs. It was told to me to be FT5. What I didn't realize is the TO meant 5 rounds and not matches. I got counterpicked and smoked without being able to switch characters. Shit still rustles my jimmies. Was a great time otherwise. One of the dudes from Jackass showed up and did an exhibition where he beat UMK3 on the hardest difficulty with the screen off. Didn't know about glitch-jabbing or sweep exploiting at the time which is probably how he did it but it was still neat. They gave out Fatal Fury hats at the door. It was my lucky hat until I lost it in a move.

Final Round, I forget which one.

It was Saturday night, a bunch of us were in I believe 16bits hotel room. Maxter and Tom Brady were drunk af, naturally, and decided to play some drunk MK9 matches. Tom lost, naturally, and proceeded to yell "I DON'T CARE, I'M GETTING LAID TONIGHT!". Which was extremely awkward. Why was it awkward? Because he was dating Goldfish at the time and she was IN THE ROOM! It got real quiet, ya know, awkward silence and all. Then Tom proceeds to go to the bathroom.

He was in there for awhile. I go knock on the door and it wasn't shut all the way. So it opened and Tom has a towel and is cleaning up. See Tom had vomitted all over the bathroom apparently, and was trying to destroy the evidence. Me and REO make fun of him, naturally, and Tom starts ranting about me being ass in MK9 and me bopping REO in an UMK3 online match we did for Phil's stream. It was hilarious because drunk and angry Tom is great. I believe REO recorded some of it but I doubt he still has it.

It wasn't really a terrible experience, but definitely unforgettable. And I never pass up an opportunity to blow up Brady, so yeah, lol.

EDIT: It was the Final Round that had the big VsM vs 16bit team match, whichever FR that was, I forget.

I haven't even been to many tournaments, but some shenanigans (good and bad) always happens. The shenanigans are the best part of going to tournaments though lol.

It was my first tournament staffing... I was staying with @SwiftTomHanks and eventually there was almost 10 people in the hotel room. Lots of saltiness, lots of people just sleeping in their cars.... Etc. I didnt even know what I was doing running wise and the tournament was ran by relaxed state and one more guy (whos name escapes me).

It was a nightmare on Sunday too because STH had a family emergency which meant not only did we have to leave early, we needed a ride home. My brother and I carpooled with STH so we didnt have to spend money on gas. Luckily, @AC1984 was there for us and took us home before work.

I felt like such pest after that weekend...

My first tourney was at GGA and was only like a month ago lmao. Im from Ohio, and was in a car for about five hours going to Chicago, and easily the thing I was most excited for was GGA, and when I heard there was weekly tourneys I figured why not. So I walked in there with my backpack that I had my controller in, and everybody turned around and just kind of starred at me. Keep in mind, I am in high school and there are not many FGC members that young as far as I know (I can think of maybe three, two of which are SFV players) so it must have been pretty strange for them but they where all really chill.

I got mopped for the most part but had some GGs. It wasn't really a BAD experience, but I was crazy nervous and I felt out of place. I wanna go to more in the future and hopefully I wont feel so awkward lol.

Lol yep! Got tired of making good money to live in an average apartment with bad weather. Just got frustrated with NYC as a whole and one day decided to plan to leave and did it. :eek:

Where do you guys play at here? I looked online but didn't see much. PM me with some details so I can get down!!

This was a road trip I took with RM Broba Chett, Reverend Petey Popoff aka Hatecraft and his wife. We were on our way to The Common Wealth last year. We'd been driving from Kentucky to Indianapolis to Ohio to Norfolk. Having been in the car since 11 am, thanks to a stop from a highway patrolman slowing us down we didn't arrive in Norfolk until 11 pm that night. 11 am - 11 pm. The hotel we got could be best described as the bastard child of a motel 6.

At Red Fight District in Amsterdam i spent like £100 on my phone bill looking for the venue on google maps on my phone, apparently i dont get data in europe for free, who knew!
