Question What character do you think can/cannot make top 3 at a major?

Just something i was discussing with @Awkward Sloth The rule is simple. What character do you think can/cannot make top 3 only using the 3 variations they have. Technically 4 for Triborg. Just getting top 3 on their own with the tools given. This also includes winning a major.

My List of characters that can get top 3/win:

If Tekken Master didn't just do it I would have said take out Kotal and D'vorah but here we are. I don't think Jax and Kung Jin can get it done. I agree with the rest.

Even if Tekken Master didn't do what he did at EVO, I'd still say Kotal has all the tools to make top 3 or win at a tournament. Just my take on it. Not saying you're wrong. Your opinion.

I think Quan can still get top 3 but not win a major.

Triborg might be able to get top 3 but that's pretty iffy

If Kang had more tournament representatives id have a better opinion on him. He's another iffy one.

Pnut did it with Kotal at Final Round.
I think jax can get it done. But nobody plays him. Kung Jin was a hit or miss for me. I didn't know where to put him. I leaned towards being able to do it.

There are variations of characters in the "can get top 3/win" that couldn't, and variations in the "cannot get top 3/win" that could.

Without variations the discussion is pretty pointless.

Its not the characters fault that they can rely on 1-2 variations to get top 3. You can still discuss it because of more complete characters like Jaquie and Kotal can cover weaknesses with the variation system but if you only listed by 1 variation I'd prolly remove those two characters off the list.

When Kobu was top tier are you going to argue because Pyro and Dragon Naginata were butt she wasn't tournament winning viable? No.

That's why it's a character viability discussion not variation.

Some of the characters you put in your list that cannot make top 3 already did. Erron Black, Kitana, Predator, Quan, Tanya, Cassie, Kung Lao, Shinnok and I'm not sure but I think Ferra/Thor also did in Canada.

Without variations the discussion is pretty pointless.

I think it kinda goes without saying that variations don't need to be mentioned as upon viewing the list or coming up with our own, their placement will be dictated by their best variation(s) automatically.

Current patch and build of the game. Also only using that character throughout the entire tournament.

Triborg (mainly smoke and sektor), Cassie, Reptile, Quan, Liu kang and Shinnok (we literally just saw Wound get top 5 at EVO with only Shinnok) are all characters that can get top 3/win without secondaries (assuming you can pick and chose out of all the variations).

Cassie's representation has fallen off a lot that's what shaped Indy and my opinion. She's still good but iffy about her winning/top 3.

Reptile? Maybe

Shinnok is another iffy one. Like if the bracket was really in imposters favor then yeah. I wanna ask Cowboy but you know how he down plays.

Predator can make top 3 if his hardest matchups such as Cage, Liu, Dvorah, and Demo Sonya aren't in the way.

Has anyone made top 3 with Kotal using ONLY Kotal? I know Tekken Master obviously , but he also used D'Vorah.

Off the top of my head, characters that will not place top 3 at a major no matter who is playing them:
BRC
Kenshi
Goro
Kitana
Tanya
Leatherface

By OP numbers, only a third of the cast is viable. But its not really any variation of those 12 characters is it? When you cut those top 12 chars down to their dominant variations, a couple of them have 2 variations such as Alien. So maybe 15,16 variations that can make top 3, out of 100 variations in this game?
I'm just a filthy casual looking at this, but I guess what I'm getting at is if you believe only 15% of the cast is viable, why even play this game?
