The problem with Reptile is that he's extremely overrated in the neutral. He has to do things like yolo slide/dash and armor to gain respect in the neutral vs characters like Shinnok, Kotal, Alien, the list goes on. A 9 frame mid that goes no where is good but not great, same with his 13 frame mid. He also lacks a rangey poke or good jump in. His meterless anti airs are also good but not great.

He's a very average neutral character with underrated zoning and great mix ups. If he didn't have those mix ups he'd be incredibly underwhelming.

After playing a lot vs Aura I also thought that he might be top tier, but nah, after playing him myself, nah. He's like upper mid tier at most atm. He has really good match ups vs characters like War God, D'vorah, Cassie.

Reptile could maybe be top 5 if Alien, Mileena, Sonya, Cage, D'Vorah, Kano, Ermac, Takeda, Kung Jin, Shinnok, etc got deleted

Wait for their nerfs xD

There are 0 signs of Reptile getting a single nerf (maybe he might get buffed...), and if half of the characters you listed get slightly worse, Nimble Rep will rise. The guy simply can't be zoned without super risk (the Balanced matchup is AWFUL, for example) and he laughs at armors, which is huge in this game.

The balanced matchup is always awful lmao. Deceptive is Reptiles best variation by far imo. If the nimble activation was faster he would be better I think. If those characters DID get heavy nerfs and Reptile DID get heavy buffs then yeah. But in the CURRENT state of MKX I don't think Reptile is in the top 10, or even 5. Maybe 15. Maybe it's just because I play Sub-Zero and Sub rapes Reptile. That could be part of it.

All 3 Reptile variations have a place.

Noxious can link gas midscreen off of 34 and get almost 40% meterlessly. I prefer Noxious because that, along with the tick, require no meter, so I can use all of my meter on armor traps and damage. That's probably why Aura uses Noxious as well.

Edit: Deceptive and Nimble definitely grant better perks, but since Reptile has so many ways he can use his meter, sometimes you find yourself not even using the invis in a match, because you spent it on damage or an armor trap.

To be fair, every single KP2 variation received a nerf in that patch lol. While NRS are the ones who deliver the changes, a lot of the community also has blood on their hands for complaining about trivial quirks found within 2 weeks.

Wait, so you told that guy that HQT is far from top 5 and implied that he listed the variation as such because he struggles against him, now you're telling me that the reason I don't think Reptile deserves top 5 is because I haven't played a good one? So that means you struggle against him? Read again, buddy.

Demo Sonya is one of the best neutral characters in the entire game
Can break all armor, including X-rays
Gets 41% meterless
Gets 72% off an Xray
Has a meterless invincible wake-up that launches for a combo (It's either 2f or 3f on start-up IIRC)

And you didn't have this character in your list, not even Kano or Takeda. smh

Alien got a slap on the wrist. Everyone else got the dick. Alien's 3 variations, Sektor, and Smoke got to stay great. Idk about Leatherface, but he isn't the greatest. CSZ and Cyrax got hit way too hard. And yeah the community is also to blame, it's the same people that won't stop till Alien is nuked and the other top tiers stay.

I think Flame fist is very high up there. That variation is crazy, he build meter no problem, and you can't wakeup against him, yea you can armor out of his flame fist pressure but your most likely gonna get your armor broken if you fight a good liu kang. The character is very underrated , I think he's top 5

I don't see a general discussion thread, so I guess I'll post here. What are the top and bottom 5 characters in terms of level of execution needed? I've played fighting games for a number of years, but NRS games are new to me.

You right as well, and there is always a large group of idiots asking for something changed rather than learning to beat it (in every game). It takes an out of touch balance dev to listen to these people

Your right how did I forget demo sonya. Ye she definitely deserves a place infront of reptile.

I see the irony in my response but I didn't mean it in terms of me struggling with the match up but more on the character and variation's number of winning match ups. I don't think anyone would disagree reptile has more winning match ups than HQT.

I also don't think cutthrout Kano nor ronin takeda are top 5 that's why I didn't mention them.

Maybe the 5th spot should be shared by a couple of characters?

Honourable mention - I think Jason should be a consideration but I have no idea what he's losing match ups are.

Bottom: MoS Raiden, Warrior, Fisticuffs, Unbreakable, All of bo rai cho.

Fisticuffs isn't better than Ancestral at all, and I wouldn't say Necromancer either.
