Street Fighter V General Discussion

Block, v-reversal, or (ideally) v skill flex are pretty much your only options. Wake up CA is possible too, but you're not always going to have a full stock of meter.

The problem with doing flex against jabs, especially if they are mashed jabs, is that the jabs aren't subject to block stun when being absorbed and come out quicker, making the window to get flex to come out absurdly tight. I said 'ideally' because flex allows you to combo into v trigger activation and super (or both if it will close out the round), so it's a case of risk versus reward.

Against mashed jabs just block, as jab mashers tend to whiff a few just to confirm they are safe before jumping away. Block two, then light or ex SPD. Ex has a recessed hurt box and leads into set ups, so that's the ideal one. There are no set ups off light SPD. Others will do two jabs then a c.mk or something equivalent. With them, sometimes it's possible to block the jabs then v-skill-l.spd, but it required great reactions or a solid read (and some execution practice as v skill into SPD has a variable timing based on when abouts in the animation you absorb the hit. You can't rely on the same buffeted timing, you need to visually confirm it).

And Shazzy, that was just general advice for the man, I wasn't digging at you calling you a jab masher.
Nice thanks for the info, I didnt know you could flex into V-trigger I usually just go for a spd or head but depending on range. I should of used V reversal more I don't know why I didn't. Are you saying you can V-trigger into spd on hit or block I will def have to look into that also as I have not fully explored vskill yet.

You use v skill as a pseudo parry to create extra frame advantage for yourself. The idea is that you tap v skill, buffer the SPD motion, absorb a hit on the active frames and grab them in their recovery (It's not a cancel, mind, you still have your five frames start up). The best example of how this works is with Mika's charged hk. When you block it she's at advantage, but if you v skill it you can heavy SPD her in her recovery frames.

The instances where this work are all very specific, and will take research and lab time. However, don't forget it if you run into a situation you think on first impressions is completely fucked as v skill could be the answer.

And yes, download v frames, like Shazzy said. It's free and gets updated regularly.

Give it a month. You'll soon be weighing up the value of the wins you'll get playing her against the shame of being a dirty R.Mika player.

I'm seriously considering it myself, but I'm lazy and can't be bothered to learn all her tech and mix ups.
I am just being salty due to lack of match up knowledge im not one to bitch about characters. Why the fuck did I pick gief to learn instead of her for a grappler lol.

Gief has better anti zoning tools, longer pokes, higher stamina and stun and a larger throw range, whereas Mika has better speed, a better armoured reversal, better jumps and a better corner game.

I'd like to think that they would help balance each other out, Mika versus faster, projectileless characters like Karin, Cammy, etc, and Gief versus Guile, Ryu etc, but in reality it appears that Mika's speed is enough to compensate for her lack of good anti projectile tools, and her mix ups make getting in more rewarding.

I think I've just talked myself into learning her.

Infiltration said Ibuki and Balrog are trash, but he thinks Balrog is a little better than Ibuki. Ibuki confirmed dumpster tier with a homeless person sleeping inside.
Nice to know me, Sako and Infiltration are all on the same wavelength. Freebuki
I think she's bad too.

Birdie feels like 7-3. Can't get in. He can just literally spam his pokes and AA with cr.MP and Ibuki has to hold dat. Alex also seems tough, as well as Gief. They can pretty much go full yolo mode and unless we're willing to spend like all the resources they are not getting punished properly, so they don't care.

Pretty much any character with better than mediocre pokes beats Ibuki. Birdie is for sure her worst MU from what I've played. Have to outplay him 10/10 to win.

Seems like a nice challenge after playing Chun/Cammy all this time....

edit: Also, I'm pretty sure, Ibuki has little to no airborne frames during her backdash, so enjoy getting thrown by meaty SPDs even though you guessed right and backdashed. Have to neutral jump, so everything to lose, very little to gain....

What's with all the Mika hate? Come get smothered by cheecks and learn how glorious it is to fight Mika.

Was surprised the Ibuki depression hasn't kicked into full gear sooner.

Why is it that some of Ibuki's crossups does not display the cross up sign?
If you're talking about jump ins, SFV has a weird cross up detection. I've seen:
  • Jump ins that say "cross up" but stay on the same side. And the opposite of that.
  • And I've had to block like it was a crossup but they land on the same side where they jumped from.
I haven't seen if it the two situations work together so if it says "cross up" then you know you'd had to block the opposite direction even though your opponent landed in front of you.

I'll fight you later if you want.
I can't right now
