You can know about the character, but straight up giving the match up knowledge is bullocks. hes asking Mileena players, i do not see how someone that doesnt play Mileena can give a good response about the match the do not play.

Ugh what did this website turn into...
For not playing her, he sure did give quite the informative post, Vak. You haven't contributed anything to the topic other than stirring stuff up, which is quite ironic considering you were just lamenting what this site has turned into...

No one has refuted anything (so far) he said in his post. So, maybe people can be knowledgeable about other characters without playing them?

No i have not contributed anything to this topic, but the sheer truth, that it is better to give an opinion about something that you are experience with. Watching matchup and seeing matchup is completely different thing, especially when you do not play the character correct?

Okay, whos opinion would you rather hear, someone who plays Sub-Zero and Mileena and are experienced or opinion from someone who just watches the streams.

Please....

According to my streams Tanya, Naginata should go even or beat 80% of the cast, but its not so.

I have no problem with being portrayed as an asshole when i say that i do value opinion of people who main the charcter and know the match rather than someone that just has seen it.

Thats all ;)

I'd rather hear the opinion of who is correct. If the person that doesn't play the character gives 100% spot-on information, who cares who it's from? It's just that if it's from someone who mains said character, they're probably considered more credible than the other person who doesn't. That's fine. But to pretty much blatantly tell someone they CANNOT discuss a MU involving a character they don't play is ridiculous.

But nothing that he said was incorrect, so I don't understand why you're so up in arms about this.

The anticipation is killing me
I know this question is just as obvious as 'Why is Alien Top 5?', but my buddy is a mileena player and our sets are close. He is incensed and doesn't believe mileena strongly wins this matchup cause I can kill him in the corner faster than he kills me midscreen. (His words not mine)

So I pose the question. How does mileena 6-4 or 7-3 grandmaster?

@A F0xy Grampa @YOMI RM SaltFace @any mileenas
Most people have summed up why the matchup is what it is. I can only guess your friend is allowing himself to get cornered too easily which is hell for Mileena to get out of. If he adapts to playing the MU midscreen at all times it should be fine.

Or maybe skillwise it is not the MU and you are just better than him :p

I'm very welcome to any Sub or Mileena players who want to come in here and correct me. I have no problem with that, but every Sub and Mileena player that has come in here has reiterated what I said, so it appears I do know the matchup despite what you might think.

Do I know it as well as say Tom Brady or f0xy or Madzin or whoever? No of course not I would not pretend to, but I know enough to give a decent answer to the question and popular opinion seems to agree with me.

When you want to know about surgery that you will have, would you rather hear it from the doctor who peforms that exact surgery or someone who has seen it on dr. House.

My favorite Tanya to watch...

You can build up matchup knowledge watching top players battle.

If there is a long set being run between Pig's Balanced and Brady's GM, you can take some things away from that.

Do you understand the levels of difficulty in execution? No. Do you understand each and every exchange? No.

Can you take some matchup knowledge away from their set? Yes. Is that info worth something? Yes.

Now, it takes seeing more than just one set among greats to have real matchup knowledge - but watching a few more sets of the same matchup between great players of equal skill can give you enough knowledge where you can at least be part of the conversation. While knowledge from just watching is incomplete, it also isn't invested. Invested knowledge, although more thorough, tends to leave us leaning one way or the other. That's just human nature.

C'mon man. telekick goes through clone....the end. sub does no damage against her baby hurtbox. sub has bad buttons in neutral, mileena is arguably the best. Your friend needs to yolo telekicks when cornered and watch what happens. Mileena appears to ignore the clone hitbox, and even if sub blocks, the clone goes away and with the sai mix up and difficulty of consistently punishing it, it's gg's. mileena outzones sub, can react with telekick or low sai if sub tries to zone, and on and on

Dude are you even reading my posts? If a Sub or Mileena player with that experience wants to come in here and give a better explanation or correct me then I gladly welcome them to.

As I've said already though, both Mileena and Sub players have already come here and reiterated what I said and agreed with me.

Your idea that I can't talk about a matchup simply because I don't play it is completely flawed because I clearly do understand it at a decent level, as you can see by what people are saying.

I really don't get why you're so upset.

Agreed. But why it even came up at all is what he'd like to know. Hell, I'd like to know myself.

Myri apparently wasn't wrong as he's yet to be corrected, so why does it matter WHO the source came from? If he knows what he's talking about, that's all that matters.

He's just adding his input and it shouldn't be shunned regardless of wording.

If VP speaks on Tanya, we should listen because he knows what he's talking about. His Tanya is so friggin' creative man. Its like poetry in motion. Just when you think you know where he's going, he changes it up like a DJ Premier scratch.

To guess, VP has been reading the recent torrent of unchecked uninformed opinions here and its Sunday, so he finally had time to weigh in here.

It is better this way

Mortal Kombat X isn't brain surgery though. It doesn't take a professional to look at Sub-Zero's and Mileena's tool kit and see why this is slanted. It takes a professional to do this at the highest level, and know every possible nuance about this matchup, but I don't know that anybody is there yet. The only way to get there is to play it and generate discussion because that is the only way both Sub-Zero and Mileena players can find out all there is to know about this match. He didn't really say anything wrong, and it was pretty correct information. I don't know this match as well as I should yet also, but at its core, it is easy to see why this match is fucked just at surface value.

Like I said, I don't see anywhere in this thread where VP looked angry or even put off. He was simply offering his opinion that matchup knowledge should come from playing experience.

And I agree, I would value the opinion of someone who plays the character/matchup over someone who has only watched it/has some knowledge about it. But it doesn't immediately invalidate someone's ability to talk about said character or matchup just because they are less experienced.

In fact I would say it's encouraged for these people to offer up these opinions so that more experienced players can explain why certain aspects of a particular matchup may not be as they seem, if it appears that someone is in fact misunderstanding something.

Ok I think we can all agree that people that may not play a character can still give advice on matchup from observation that is completely correct, but some people would prefer to hear from people who main the characters involved in the discussion and that's fine.

Now let's get back to the topic at hand which is Piercing vs Grandmaster matchup discussion. Any off-topic posts following this will be removed so consider this your warning and if you continue after said warning then you could be infracted so be careful ya dafties :p

no I'm a long time grandmaster, and he's been playing me. Our sets are not so 7-3. Its usually like 12-9 or something like that
what i'm saying is if ur buddy had a grandmaster i don't see how he could be saying that. mileena owns subzero.

the thing i've notice about the mileena matchup is that mileena builds meter so easily she can breaker 1-2 times per round, like a get out of jail free card, then just continue with great meterless damage and pressure.

mileena owns subzero at midscreen and neutral game. if subzero happens to get mileena in the corner, great - but then his combos never work as well against females as with males. you don't get the same amount of damage - you need to either spend a bar of meter or do the f33/throw close klone mix-up game which severely limits your options

it's just a bad matchup
