How to fix the lag issues?

Tanno

If this has been mentioned before, then I'm sorry, but right now I have connection issues, and I'd love to ask you guys about this.

I have realized that, in the EVO, I noticed that sticky announcement on every monitor saying "Check "Main Menu" > "Network" for lag testing." or something like that.

So I decided to investigate it thoroughly to make my experience with MKX better for every person I encounter in the online. My mates have said that recently I have lag and connection issues, so I decided to fix this problem ASAP before playing with everybody of you.

Let me tell you that I own PS4.

Can you give me some tips of how to fix the lag and improve my connection?

Thanks!

First things first, are you wired?

Wi-Fi. I was wired, but my cords got fucked up due of long use. They no longer have good connection with my Playstation consoles. I'm using Wi-Fi for the time being. I'm waiting for the right time to re-fix my cords.

Not using wifi is going to be the first thing you are going to hear. Not all wifi is created equal, but it's easiest to just eliminate it from the equation.
It's easy to say, you were fine, went wifi and now people are complaining.
There are lots of factors and things you can mess around with, but buying new cables is going to be the fastest, cheapest thing you can likely do. Getting familiar with speed tests doesn't hurt to see what devices are getting what kind of performance.

I ran a wire long ago and found that this was the answer. Later, I found that my wires were outdated - so I ran the new wires right along the old ones. Its a pain, but it was worth it.

I see. Guess that I'll have to update my own wires someday in the next month. I'm doing a major redecoration of my living room switching all of my furnitures' places. Once the redecoration is completed, I'll do something with the wires.

The reason behind the redecoration is because we have an asshole at the other side of this certain wall whining a lot about the sounds.

Once I do the wires, what's next?

Then.. Make sure the service you are paying for is solid, that your modem is giving all your service is providing, and that your router is too.

Once I fix things here, I'll ask my dad to do something with the service for all of these.

I am also a Wi-Fi player and I don't have the option to play on wired connection. But what I found that really helped my connection was doing a "custom" set up instead of "easy". As you go through your connection settings, leave everything auto or default except your MTU setting. Instead of having it at 1500, lower it to around 1475-1485. It improved mine significantly.

Terrible times breed terrible things, my lord.
Also forward your ports on your modem or router. Makes a world of a difference.

Aslo if your running g your laptop or unnecessary devices at the same time turn them on power save or off.

Also ask your Internet provider about peak times and the times your lagging and see if they can collaborate with you on a upgrade. I used to live in a building years ago when gears 2 cents out. Before fibre optics and I ran satellite for my service. Somehow they were able to run my Internet through a larger host in the area and I noticed the difference immediately. I don't know how they did it but the cable guy did and I was happy till the day I moved.

Good luck.

Those notes were on evo monitors because now games let you set input lag offline to simulate online and match arcade cabinets (which usually have a frame more lag than consoles). I know GGXrd and MKXL let you do this.

Buying a higher quality router, 5 GHz router, placing more routers in your house, etc. but those are all more expensive and are not guaranteed to give you better results.
Why isn't wired an option? Your console is too far from the main router? 40m ethernet cables exist.

A 40-meter Ethernet cable? Wouldn't that be really expensive?

Did you mean feet?

No more investigating to be done, man, sorry. A Wifi connection for a game played at 60fps where timing is so critical, just isn't good enough. That's why people have been complaining about your connection online. The thing with evo has to do with the monitors/screens, not lag on a server or online. Two totally separate issues.

I will disagree to a point with this. Yes, WiFi is not ideal, but this is a thread on how to make your WiFi (or i guess wired) connection better. The problem usually is that if you have good upload/download speeds and still have lag on WiFi it usually means that it's not set up properly. I lowered my MTU setting so data wasn't "bottle necking" and I have fine online connection.

I used to play on my tv my whole life and bought a lagfree monitor last year. The improvement was insane; I never would have thought that the difference is that big.
So in case you are playing on your tv - get a lagfree monitor.

My PC can only really be done on WiFi and it turned to utter crap one day. Finally got to the bottom of it after two routers and several calls to the cable CO to find out I'm going to war a neighbor's signal. Manually picking less popular channels over using auto channel selection got things back on track. At least until their auto settings wander in on my corner of things and I have to move channels again. I guess that's a thing to worry about if you have lots of WiFi routers in range.

When things are working well my WiFi speeds are actually pretty good for things close by. I think WiFi can work, but you really have to know your setup is nails and that your aren't having any funny business going on. Most WiFi is easy mode WiFi and that leaves a lot extra room for ping gremlins to get into and do the lag dance.

Wired is just easier, and faster, and simpler. Fortunately my PS4 is snuggled right next to my router so I don't have to worry as much about stuff for MKXL.

Is there a YouTube vid on this or something? Never hurts to have a visual?

Back when I got PS3 for the first time, I used to make Port Forwarding, because I had a mess of a connection to deal with. Now, I'll have to re-remember them.

@champdee , this would be a good idea if you could make a tutorial regarding these stuff. It would help a lot of people in the future for the fighting games, and especially MKX.

Forgot to ask you this. For the fighting games, do the DL/UP speed matter? I know that the Download speed does matter, but the Upload? If I fix things here, I might help my mates with their own connection issues to make the streaming for both sides better.

What should I ask to the technician just in case?

upload and download is a bottle neck but what you really need to look at is "ping". Like bandwidth speed affects ping, but other things can affect it much more.. like for example how far your house is away form the exchange and stuff completely out of your hands. There are ways ISPs can handle your connection that will actually increase your ping but lower your raw download speed.,.. so ask them if they have some kind of "gamer" setting that they can switch your account to that will help with the ping.

Also as everyone has said you need wired.. that is like the very first thing you should do and it is an easy fix. Also, not all cords are created equal. In the same way you can buy really expensive cables for audio and video equipment, you can for network cables. So have a look at that. You want a high quality cable, this means less noise on it, less packet loss etc etc and fast ping.

Finally if you really want to go all out there are actual GAMER ROUTERS nowadays. These are routers that basically only allow data from certain geographical locations to connect to you. Basically it means you can force only localish connections. So no random 300pings and only ever get people under 10 or so.
