I've seen some silly cool shit in terms of settlements on the FO4 reddit, so you can get pretty varied with what you make.

If you just mean aesthetics wise, I don't get what you're asking for. This game, like any other, has a theme. And that theme is postapocalyptic future 50's. You're not gonna get cobblestone dragon lairs or 90's club decore, or anything in between.

Only so much can be done without breaking immersion or theme.

I supposed it'd be very immersion-breaking for an intelligent survivor to nail a wooden, scrap, steel, iron wall properly. Especially when you can create straight-out-of-the-factory looking generators that could also function as a windmill.

Making wires go inside the house is a pain in the ass, but luckily you really don't have to. When you look at items that require power, there will be a lightning bolt symbol and there might be a number. The number indicates how much power is required (provided by a generator), but if there is no number, then the item just has to be close enough to a power source.

The power sources include Power Pylons (regular and large; no real difference), Power Conduits (3 types for floors, walls, and ceilings), and Switches (or "Switched Pylons"). All of these items project a field of energy. To see how big the field is, power a Pylon or Conduit by wiring it to a generator. Then put a lamp next to it. The lamp should turn on. Then pick up the pylon and move it away. Eventually the lamp will turn off. This is the maximum range of the Pylon's energy field.

So all you have to do is place a Pylon outside of your house, or place a Power Conduit on the outside wall or roof and wire it to your generator. You can then wire additional pylons and conduits to the first to create a larger field. Even a single point of power is enough to create a field and power an infinite number of lights.

The problem comes when you need to power something that requires a direct connection, such as the work light. In these cases, you have to route your wire through an opening into your building via pylons and conduits. Sometimes you can get lucky and the wire will clip through a wall, but otherwise you'll have to have a large gap or open door in your design. It's quite stupid.

I tried to build a house from scratch. After 30 minutes of sheer frustration I just placed a shack there, used some mattresses, and went back to quest lol.
I built half of a really amazing sanctuary and gave up because the building is so bare bones and rage inducing. I think mods will make building worth it after the G.E.C.K. comes out.

The "snap" feature makes me want to murder everybody. I can never get things to snap into place when I want them to, but if I'm trying to place something a specific way and don't want it to snap, it will teleport halfway across the goddamn zone to snap to something.

Also sometimes the game just won't let me place something for no reason. It will just have that red outline. They should just remove the anti-clipping rules and allow you to place anything anywhere within your building, along with an on/off button for "snap".

certain floors and walls will bypass this clipping issue the concrete foundation and the wooden shack foundation come to mind , also if you want to make a level surface u can stack foundations on top of each other by clipping the largest set of stairs to the side of one then build on top of the foundation its clipped to , this is very handy for overcoming some of these issues, rotation sometimes works to help with the clipping but not often . I'm in the process of building a pyramid on spectacle island 8)

which leads me into a question, is there any build items in game which are triangular i want to make my pyramid like egyptian style but ill settle for mayan style if i have to !

Yeah, those 2 can clip, but nothing else will. And I also mean walls and ceilings should be able to clip. You can already make floating buildings, it's not going to ruin the immersion if my wire clips through a wall or a pylon sticks through my roof.

And as far as I know, there are no angular items. Trying to do anything that doesn't involve a 90-degree angle is a nightmare. Even 90-degrees can be rough when your wall keeps trying to snap onto the previous wall in a 180 instead of snapping with the floor in a 90.

yeah sometimes its rough , mentioning pylons i have 3 sticking through my wooden prefab (the biggest one) thanks to your help! so it def does happen on certain objects just finding them is a bitch
