Which character(s) were you wrong about?

WakeUp DP

GT MK OshTekk.
Well, I completely dismissed Buzzsaw in the beginning as well which really didn't change overall. I thought it just took too much execution to do the combos and deal the damage. I thought I might as well pick up another character and have the same results instead of working twice as hard.
Felt the same and did pick up another char along with Tempest.

Shinnok:

I think it's safe to say this character just may be top 5 now. I have no reason to believe otherwise. He was really solid before his Bone Shaper variation got buffed in Impostor, but I definitely think the way it is now cements him to be top tier. However, the patches were needed... I don't have any idea what they plan to do to Shinnok in a future balance update but tone him down slightly a bit more.

Necromancer Shinnok:

I separated the two because I really, really wanted this variation to be good. I like the idea of stopping your opponents from running in with the unblockable or Summoned Fiend but it's just a weak variation and I'm not sure any buffing could save it. Flick being -8 is just rough unless you space with it and... Yeah.

Sub-Zero:

I felt like this was actually the best incarnation of Sub-Zero but he really falls off with the clone nerf.

Scorpion:

See above, but with 214 getting nerfed it wrecked the character it seems.

Kung Jin:

Thought he would be top ten the entire game. He's not even bad so it's confusing to see how he fell off.

Displacer Raiden... granted this was pre-release but a lot of people were talking a big game about how 95% of Raiden players would use it. Yeah, let's give him a variation for mobility tools in a game where almost everybody has good mobility, including his OWN other variations.

Also why are people saying they wasn't wrong about Kung Lao because of the Tempest buffs? Buzzsaw hasn't been touched, may even be his worst variation (by default) now that Hat Trick has been fleshed out some more yet F0xy still made waves with it, hell some even tried to maintain that Buzzsaw was still better than Tempest even after the buffs for a while.

Besides, I was discussing this with Ketchup, this is just a theory, but I think the way Tempest's hat spin is now was supposed to be that way from the start, and it wouldn't surprise me if the testers freaked out pre-release, took away the conversion-ability and attempted to give him the 4 frame EX spin as some shitty compensation. It's suspicious how it was changed to 7 frames when Hat Spin was buffed...

Im confused inferno with Hellfire

Well you would still be wrong since since he didn't have any kind of infinite in Hellfire either. His old blockstrings didn't work the same way as Liu Kang's.
The fireball cancel? 214 fb 214 fb 214 exfb, 214 fb? Back then my friend found a way to OS the 4 into teleport on hit so you cant even take a hit to get out, its really hard to do but if its there someone would eventually do it. You cant duck the exfb unless youre in the corner

Are ya' ready for MK11 kids?!

I know what you're talking about, it was a universal buffer and got taken out in the first major patch. Nothing to do with why it was nerfed. EX FB doesn't guarantee any more pressure by the way, nor does Scorpion's stamina recover in time to check with further reps.

Oh and by the way, the fireball is a high, anyone can duck it anywhere.....

But yeah, I'm glad that my suspicions were confirmed as that people were far too befuddled by the old blockstring to notice Scorpion's other glaring issues.

Its true that the fireball is a high but the with the blockstring 214 the exfireball hits mid in mid screen, and the Ex fireball does allow enough stamina to regenerate to do another set because of the slow animation of the fire while it is about +15 on block which allow the 2 (which is also a high to hit mid). Its actually becomes a hit infinite mid screen.

When i said 214 fb, it means fb cancel

I GOT HANDS

Official Infrared Scorp wid gapless Wi-Fi pressure
Did I say something incorrect? Does Sonya not have an unreactable 50/50 into another 50/50?
in one variation. And then second 50/50 is no more a 50/50 than Liu Kangs "50/50", and it comes with an armour able gap. Soniya ain't that bad she just gets a second chance to get through with "throw" damage

This is a hard question.. with the way NRS patches to help the life of the game it is pretty hard to judge. I mean I never liked Shinnok but as soon as he got the new moves he started to show signs of life....

I guess I was "most-wrong" about Sonya with the drone. I thought that would be the top variation for the win.. but I hardly see it used at all.

I thought Thunder God would be bad, I was wrong. I thought raidens teleport would be useful, I was wrong. I thought MOS would be completely useless with absolutely no setups and the whole concept of the design would not work. I was right.

Noob Saibot
The first few hours of MXK release I was creaming myself over Kenshi until I realized he wasn't anywhere near as good as Mk9. This was pre-buff. He's still mediocre at best and until someone besides @Pig Of The Hut makes waves with him at tournaments he will always be mediocre at best for me.

Thought Kung Lao sucked ass but I was wrong.

I'm wrong about a lot of things in fighting games. Oh well.

VOR

Noob
Predator- totally underestimated
Cybernetic Kano- thought he'd be solid but he's pretty shit imo
Relentless Jason- surprisingly good imo, not getting used a lot

Everyone else I was right about so yay for me.

AZ MotherBrain

If you believe enough, -7 could be +7
I though D'vorah was mid tier at best, i thought Sub ruled the world, I thought Shinnok was totally ass, i thought Kotal would be tournament favorite

Wetdoba

All too easy...
Ferra Torr, I really wanted them to be good, but they are too complex for this game that rewards simplicity.I recently starting picking up some of the easy mode top tiers and holy shit its a completely different game when playing as them vs Ferra Torr. Why be Ferra Torr and be a huge slow target with no anti airs in a game where everyone else is sprinting max speed and jumping into mix ups that jail? They have simply have to make too many reads and even when making the correct one they get fucked by grab immunity and waste a bar and get punished anyway. They are a slow, defensive, footsie character and that is literally the worse build you could ask for in this game. Playing as Ferra Torr means you are actively choosing a character with weaknesses built into their design and that is the last thing you want to do in this game. MKX is not about using all 3 variations of a character in order to have favorable match ups like NRS made us think, it's simply about picking a single variation without any weaknesses and never having to change your variation for a match up because the character you are playing has no need to (BS Shinnok, Kung Lao, Thunder God Raiden)
